Renationalise the railways and energy companies.

Stoping any rises in pension age.

Taxing the top 5% to pay for oap social care.

No tax rises to people warning under 80k.

No to nuclear weapons.

Giving workers the right to strike.

Reverse legal aid cuts, giving the poorest people access to the legal system.

No target on immigration.

Banning driver only trains to keep the underground in safe hands.

Increased rights for the Roma.

Review of disability benefits changes.

Scraping tuition fees.

Honestly all such good ideas, we can get him ellected!

That's rubbish, Gruffalo. You can't expect people to vote for someone in whom they have no confidence. It's not JUST Corbyn. It's most of his shadow front bench, too.

People may LIKE a lot of the pledges or policies, even if they can be costed out (we've yet to see it) but you still have to have faith that the people in charge of the party with those pledges have the skills and talents to
a) put those policies into action successfully
b) represent us on the world stage

To simply say, yeah, we like your policies, we don't know if you can pay for them, and we think you're inept, but we'll vote for you is nonsense.

At the moment, for many of us, it's like asking to pick between death by drowning or death by stoning. Don't like either of them, frankly. But by not choosing one you MUST therefore be the other is simplistic bollocks designed to appeal to the naive.

Don't say high earners because that will push them all out of the uk
Bollocks - I am a "high earner" (by this definition) and I will be staying and coughing up - as well as voting for this. Not all of us are disloyal mercenary gits with no thought for anyone else - don't judge others by your own standards.

Corbyn hasn't managed to offer any cogent opposition to the Tories while he's been leader. He has spent his political career being the renegade, which requires something to rebel against - when you're in charge you need more courage rather than mere petulance. The idea that he could manage his way out of a damp paper bag, much less successfully implement major policies like this, is laughable.

And I say that as a very disenfranchised left-leaning voter who has no idea who to vote for in the GE.

I also think renationalising the railways is daft. I need them to run on time with reasonable regularity in order to continue to stay employed - cheaper fares don't help me if the train doesn't turn up. I'm slightly bemused by the idea that Labour think an economically left-wing manifesto is a good idea vs sticking with left-wing social policy. Even China follows a capitalist economic system; socialist economics Does Not Work.

I am a usual Labour voter who voted Green last time as Labour were just Tory light - now I can vote Labour again, and I will be.

Scarily it's not rubbish. If you want the NHS for your kids and grandkids you can't vote Tory. Do you want to be like America where a genetic birth defect is a pre existing condition so you can't get health insurance , or a c section ? Many parents will not be able to afford insurance... Then what?
It's happening in the US . It will happen here. Strong and bloody stable ??

Anon you do realise you're effectively buying electricity at least partly from the French state right now.

Corporation Tax rises will still leave us with one of the lowest rates in the G7 and be lower than they were in 2011/12.

Funded by taxing Amazon, Google and people earning over 80k!

Aaaaand right here it becomes obvious you've never studied even basic economics or business.

The Railways in China are state owned.

That's a myth that high earners will just move with a tiny tax increase, these people mostly have lived and commitments and are not nomads.

I think you can take a recent look at France and see it is not a"Myth" even the IFS are saying that the costings only work "for the short term" because higher taxes result in lower investment and moving over business.

Mother 1993 was when the EU was established with Maastricht. Perhaps you need to check your figures again. You could also look at when the enlargements happened, the Communities weren't that big to start with, so it wasn't keeping us safe in any way, shape , or form. NATO on the other hand.....

"For those saying high earners won't leave you're naive. Many of us are globally mobile. I already know quite a few personally that have left as a result of Brexit."

Don't let the door hit you on the way out!

It's so sad to see so many on here so limited in the scope of their thinking and vision.

Get out from under the Daily bloody Hate and stop being sheep.

I do love it when the Tribunes of the People accuse the people who don't agree with them of being 'limited' and 'sheep'.

FYI, you patronising bods, I don't read the Mail. I get my news from a wide range of sources (BBC website, Radio 4, Labour List, Guido, Guardian etc etc: Left and Right both represented). I listen to interviews, like the recent Abbot fiasco. You want HER helping to run the country?

As for saying that not voting Labour because of Corbyn effectively makes you a Tory supporter... Oh Jesus God. There is a huge political space between Corbyn/McDonnell/Abbot and the Tories, and there are alternatives to vote for.

Thing is, whatever Labour's manifesto might say, I am not comfortable voting for a party one of whose senior people (McDonnell) waves Mao's Little Red Book around in Parliament and speaks under a communist flag (that he 'didn't notice'). Communism, though great in theory, was a disaster in practice, and anybody who still thinks it's a valid political ideology is either intensely stupid or outright wicked.

We could be like most european countries, why the jump straight to US, at some point the NHS is going to have to be reformed, it doesn't matter who is in charge, whilst I agree it needs more funding, the model of "just throw money at it" is never going to work long term.

The NHS only has X months/years to live has been a trope for years now

Will the 'right to strike' also apply to high earners who might want a pay rise to offset the hike in their tax bill?

What is it with desprate Labour supporters??? telling people they are Tory voters just because they are not voting Labour, how pathetic!

Report

Gruffalo I'm afraid the world has changed and the NHS has not changed with it. It isn't just about throwing more money at it but reorganising it totally and no one is prepared to do that. It is doing things it was never designed to do.

YABU (assuming this is not tongue in cheek that's not come across properly.)
Newsflash - people ARE allowed to think differently to you. I don't know about anyone else, but I really, really don't want to live in a country that tells you there's only one way to vote!

Report
Gruffalosgrandma · 11/05/2017 09:33

Why the USA?
Because some deals are already in place . The torys have deliberately set the NHS up to fail and it's working because nice decent trusting people don't believe that they would do that .
I really really hope I am wrong but the many people I know who work in the NHS tell me I'm not.

I would prefer to save the NHS for my children, even if it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the magic money tree. I dont want to live in a third world country. Please send a message to JC and vote for MAY.
