Pics on news of football fans (Blackburn? Blackpool? Something like that) crying because their team has gone down from Division 2 to Division 3.

I mean seriously. AIBU to want to tell them all to get a fecking life?

We all have something that means a lot to us. For some people it's football... for others it's pets...

Meh. Live and let live.

Sparklingbrook · 07/05/2017 22:28

I don't see the problem. People get passionate about sports.

PurpleDaisies · 07/05/2017 22:28

Have you never cried at a sad film? What's wrong with showing emotion?

Jengnr · 07/05/2017 22:29

Yes, you are.

My team isn't at risk of relegation and, over recent years, has made me cry for the opposite reasons but, fucking hell!

Football is emotianal. It means a lot. You might not like it, or care about it, but understand that others do.

Sparklingbrook · 07/05/2017 22:29

My DS's football team won the cup a few weeks ago. I had a bit of a cry myself.

Charlesbakerharris · 07/05/2017 22:30

Well, aren't you a treat.

moreslackthanslick · 07/05/2017 22:30

I cried cos my team (Newport County) scored in the 89th minute to stay in the league.
I then cried for the Hartlepool fans who had to watch their team get relegated instead.

YANBU

MrsMarmite1234 · 07/05/2017 22:30

I've cried for my team loads of times. Depends what you love doesn't it?

Tissunnyupnorth · 07/05/2017 22:30

Yabu. Maybe they do feel it's their life, or at least an important part of it.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 07/05/2017 22:31

To some people football is everything, it's not your thing so you don't get it.

Football mad house here, I can understand how much it means to some, devastating for Blackburn fans.

Venkys out!

moreslackthanslick · 07/05/2017 22:31

I mean you are totally VVVVVVVU!

TinfoilHattie · 07/05/2017 22:32

Crying when your child's team achieves something is totally understandable. We;ve all had that lump in the throat moment of parental pride.

But crying over a group of people who you don't know, don't know you at all just seems extreme to put it mildly.

gabsdot · 07/05/2017 22:32

Don't you know that football isn't a matter of life and death, it's more important than that.

ilovesooty · 07/05/2017 22:33

Blackburn have been relegated from the Championship to League One.
Just because football isn't important to you it doesn't mean it isn't important to others.

PurpleDaisies · 07/05/2017 22:33

But crying over a group of people who you don't know, don't know you at all just seems extreme to put it mildly.

So people who cry at films are out of order too? That's not even real.

C0untDucku1a · 07/05/2017 22:35

I binge watched 13 reasons why last week and pretty much cried throughout. I Cried so much watching marley and Me. Does nothing make you cry op?

What do you know about the venkys and what they have done to blackburn rovers op?

It isnt just about a sports team being relegated. It also has an impact on the local economy. People work at stadiums and when the team is doing well and has a bigger following, there is more work.

WankingMonkey · 07/05/2017 22:36

Meh, its important to them. I had my arse handed to me by my mother a few years back as I smirked a little at my (then) partner bawling hysterically as his team had been relegated. My mother reminded me, loudly that I was inconsolable for days when boyzone split up which is just as bad Blush

FirstOfHerName · 07/05/2017 22:38

YANBU OP, I never fail to be astounded at the way football (and it seems no other sport) affects people's moods. To the extent that reports of domestic violence double during England World Cup matches.

Bobobobobob · 07/05/2017 22:38

Have told my 'DH' he would most definitely be single if he was ever caught crying on tv about his team winning or losing.

Sparklingbrook · 07/05/2017 22:39

It doesn't matter that you don't know them. Look at all the people that cry over famous people's deaths. They didn't know them and yet they cry.

They won't still be crying over the football tomorrow, it's just a momentary upset.

RedheadLover · 07/05/2017 22:40

I understand where you're coming from OP. Having absolutely no interest in football myself I never can understand why people can become so very passionate about it.

I'm frequently reminded of this sketch from That Mitchell and Webb Look:

C0untDucku1a · 07/05/2017 22:40

Thats not aBout football though First that's alcohol consumption.

remember when take that split up?! Or the reaction of young women to the beetles?!

WonkoTheSane42 · 07/05/2017 22:41

Any chance you could provide a list of topics that people are allowed to care about? FFS.

CaoNiMartacus · 07/05/2017 22:43

I don't get football fervour. It runs so deep!

My dad's having medical treatment at the moment, and when he found out his consultant is a Red, he said "I better not tell him I'm a blue; he might not give me good treatment" !! Shock

feathermucker · 07/05/2017 22:43

Football inspires passion. Nothing wrong with that!

YABU.
