The BBC are absolutely insensitive knob heads?

Just watching the BBC 2 programme The Instant Gardener and I'm feeling slightly sick but very angry.
The lovely couple having a garden makeover have had 2 rounds of failed IVF, have decided to take a year off to gather themselves. People having deal with infertility know what I mean....BUT the TV presenter is obviously pregnant, hiding it with a flimsy scarf doesn't quite work!! How the hell did that amazing couple deal with that, feeling very sad for them at the moment

Um what? It's not as though the BBC can change the presenter. For all you know the show asked the couple if they were comfortable meeting the pregnant presenter and they said of course!

Trifleorbust · 07/05/2017 07:45

What?

OhDearToby · 07/05/2017 07:46

Well I'm guessing they had a choice whether to do the program or not, they obviously felt they could handle it/wanted to go ahead.

With all the will in the world the presenter couldn't exactly wish her pregnancy away for a day.

WowserBowser · 07/05/2017 07:46

I know it must be awful - but you can't banish pregnant folk. The fuckers are everywhere!

insancerre · 07/05/2017 07:46

I'm sure the couple concerned could have withdrawn from the programme if they found it too upsetting
But it seems like the otddpect of a new garden was too good an opportunity to pass over
I wouldn't be getting offended on their behalf
It's not like they were forced to do it at gum point

Xmasbaby11 · 07/05/2017 07:47

That's really sensitive of you, but it looks like it all went well and the presenter handled it well.

There are pregnant women everywhere.

Trifleorbust · 07/05/2017 07:49

slightly sick but very angry

I am literally agog at this. Here: have a massive, massive grip.

watchoutformybutt · 07/05/2017 07:49

Maybe the couple can deal with the real world where there are pregnant people...

GinIsIn · 07/05/2017 07:49

You want them to discriminate against the presenter instead? Hmm

Cerberusia · 07/05/2017 07:50

I'm not sure what you would have had the BBC do? They obviously cannot tell Helen Skelton not to work because she is pregnant.

Presumably the couple could have withdrawn from the programme if they found it too upsetting.

plastique · 07/05/2017 07:50

Yep I'm very sensitive in this matter obviously! I just spent the whole programme feeling sick for this couple!! When dealing with infertility you do learn to accept other people's pregnancies, but it still kills inside! This is more my issue more than theirs it seems x

JoyceDivision · 07/05/2017 07:50

Is this where people apply to have their gardens rejuvenated, and it's done for free?

I'm guessing when the applicants were being scheduled for the next series to have work done the presenter may have been in early stages / not even pregnant then, soit possibly may have been coincidental that a pregnant presenter was at that couple's garden.

A close family member has had rounds of IVF, but at no point would she have expected pregnant people to avoid her or remove themselves from close situations...

Are you ok, plastique? If it's touched a raw nerve and you need to vent let us know x

Crispsheets · 07/05/2017 07:51

You're very over invested.

pigeondujour · 07/05/2017 07:51

Yeah, it would be much more sensitive and in no way problematic for them to stop a woman doing her job on the grounds of pregnancy.

user1487175389 · 07/05/2017 07:52

How very dare she.

kmc1111 · 07/05/2017 07:53

Not every person dealing with infertility is upset by pregnant women/babies.

I went through 8 rounds before having my first and it never bothered me when friends and colleagues and strangers had children. As far as I saw it that had nothing to do with my own situation, and I didn't even realise that was something people got upset by until I noticed people tip-toeing around me.

Trifleorbust · 07/05/2017 07:53

Plastique, I understand this is a very difficult thing for those affected to deal with, but pregnant women can't hide away in case they upset those with infertility issues. They really can't, and it is deeply unreasonable to expect them to.

Hueandcry · 07/05/2017 07:55

YABU. When I was pregnant after numerous miscarriages the sonographer at the EPU was pregnant. She detected at the scan that my baby had no heartbeat. She was distraught but very very kind and sensitive to me. Being pregnant does not preclude a woman from doing her job.

FlossyMooToo · 07/05/2017 07:58

I am sorry you are upset by it OP but you must realise that you have no idea if the couple were bothered by the pregnant host. So to feel sick on their behalf is OTT.

Yes I've had my rant and feel better!!' Everyone is affected differently by infertility, I'm thankfully at the other end now, having had 3 dc. I think it was the sheer depressing irony of the reason the garden was being made over and shopping trips with presenter obs trying to hide her huge pregnant belly!!

OP posts:
Trifleorbust · 07/05/2017 08:04

I don't know why you would be angered by it, though, OP. Saddened for the couple, of course. But what has anyone done wrong here?

plastique · 07/05/2017 08:05

FlowersThank youFlowersfor the kind comments asking if I was 'Ok'. X

OP posts:
UnmentionedElephantDildo · 07/05/2017 08:06

If you were feeling sick, why didn't you change channel instead of sticking out the whole programme?

ifeelcraptonight · 07/05/2017 08:07

I'm sorry you found it tough xxx

The BBC would be discriminating if they sacked the presenter on grounds of her pregnancy.
