The BBC are absolutely insensitive knob heads?

Just watching the BBC 2 programme The Instant Gardener and I'm feeling slightly sick but very angry.
The lovely couple having a garden makeover have had 2 rounds of failed IVF, have decided to take a year off to gather themselves. People having deal with infertility know what I mean....BUT the TV presenter is obviously pregnant, hiding it with a flimsy scarf doesn't quite work!! How the hell did that amazing couple deal with that, feeling very sad for them at the moment

Imagine if the producers had not let the presenter do her job because she was pregnant!

WindwardCircle · 07/05/2017 08:09

If this had been a case of the BBC sending a pregnant reporter to cover a story about failed IVF cases for the news or something like the One Show, then they would have been guilty of being crassly insensitive as they could have chosen a different reporter.

I haven't seen this show but presumably Helen Skelton is the 'face' of it and as such the BBC couldn't just pull her out of one single episode which had probably been planned months in advance, maybe before she was pregnant, or at least before her bosses were made aware. The couple in question could have pulled out if they had wished to do so.

I understand where your upset is coming from, but I think in this case it's misdirected.

plastique · 07/05/2017 08:12

Switch off?? I love this programme, why would I not watch it? Programmes are there to be watched, to form an opinion on and then discuss!
Switching off seems totally ridiculous sorry!!

Hmm
SunshineDeLaSoul · 07/05/2017 08:14

Sorry you're going through this op Flowers

Instasista · 07/05/2017 08:15

Why would she be hiding her tummy? I think you're overthinking this OP. She's not going to pretend she's not pregnant for some clients at work.

YABU to be so angry. Infertility is extraordinary hard but this is like me saying you're being insensitive to people who can't have children bouncing around with your 3.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 07/05/2017 08:19

OP I totally get where you are coming from. I would have felt the same watching it, although I get that of course they can't change things round for that couple and yes the couple could have withdrawn if they had found it too hard. I'm sure you get that too, but I fully understand why it made you feel like this. It doesn't matter how much you try to rationalise it, other people's pregnancies when you are having fertility issues are a killer in any context. Well that what I found anyway.

memyselfandaye · 07/05/2017 08:24

Going through what Sunshine? The OP has said she has had 3 kids.

SunshineDeLaSoul · 07/05/2017 08:25

I missed that post, me.

I was being kind.

pepperpot99 · 07/05/2017 08:28

Get over yourself OP.

plastique · 07/05/2017 08:29

I'm guessing the pregnancy was attempted to hidden due to the nature of subject matter?!?

OP posts:
springflowers11 · 07/05/2017 08:30

So what are you suggesting the BBC should have done
1 discriminate against a pregnant woman
2 tell the couple they won't get their new garden because other people think it is too upsetting for them to take part

FittonTower · 07/05/2017 08:30

Switching off is totally ridiculous but feeling sick because a couple have chosen to be on a show with a pregnant women involved isn't?
Odd.

TheFirstMrsDV · 07/05/2017 08:30

I really thought you were struggling with infertility OP.
But you have three kids.

I have been on one of these type of programmes.
The couple would have not had much to do with the presenter.

I am pretty sure they were just pleased with their new garden.

I hope they get their family one day.

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/05/2017 08:32

I went through ivf. Pregnant on 3rd attempt. If you still feel this sensitive perhaps get some counselling?

WowserBowser · 07/05/2017 08:32

Why are you assuming she was trying to hide it? Maybe shr liked the scarf! Maybe it was filmed before she announced it or whatever.

Stop grasping for reasons to be upset on behalf of a couple who may just be happy they have a new garden.

Trifleorbust · 07/05/2017 08:33

OP, I am starting to question whether this is real, sorry.

The fact that the presenter was pregnant has.no.bearing on the subject matter of the programme. I don't understand why you are still posting as if the presenter should have felt the need to hide her pregnancy.

Instasista · 07/05/2017 08:33

"Today 08:29 plastique

I'm guessing the pregnancy was attempted to hidden due to the nature of subject matter?!?"

I really don't think the production company are going to think about it to that extent.

Figaro2017 · 07/05/2017 08:34

I'm terminally ill. Should Casualty and Holly City be banned because it features dying people?

plastique · 07/05/2017 08:35

Thefirstmrsdv, I through my 4 year infertility stage and am fortunate to have my three dc now,
Like you , I too wish a beautiful family for this lovely couple.

OP posts:
gregoriesgirl · 07/05/2017 08:35

Helen Skelton is pregnant? How lovely for her Smile misses the point

plastique · 07/05/2017 08:38

Gregoriesgirl, I agree I'm also happy for Helen to be pregnant and every other pregnant lady too!

OP posts:
pepperpot99 · 07/05/2017 08:38

If you are offended by the existence of pregnant women then it's your problem, OP. Hmm

plastique · 07/05/2017 08:39

Instasista, they do
