Come out, come out wherever you are!
I know it will mean you will be attacked and preached at, you will be told you are rich, uncaring and hate everyone except yourself, but will anyone stand with me and admit to planning on voting Conservative on June 8?
I can't be the only one surely? I didn't vote the Conservatives in by myself in 2015!

OC, maybe a little bit irrelevant but if you live in the UK and are a Commonwealth or Irish citizen you can vote in the GE. I have an Australian friend who feels very strongly about voting (perhaps drilled into him because they have compulsory voting there).

OCSockOrphanage · 08/05/2017 21:11

Rhay, I am genuinely pleased that you can vote and even more pleased that you can vote anyway you please without anyone telling you how you should vote correctly. To misquote Voltaire, I don't care what your opinion is, but I care a great deal that you should have the freedom to express it.

Mrseft · 08/05/2017 21:14

To be honest, I feel the most torn about who to vote for than I ever have. Tories go too far one way, labour too far the other and would I now trust Dianne Abbott in any position in the cabinet? Probably not. Lib dems are a wasted vote in my staunchly tory area so in all honesty, it doesn't matter who I vote for, in my area its a guaranteed tory seat anyway.

ConstantCraving · 08/05/2017 21:15

OCSock - so your logic is that because (you believe) some people abuse disability benefits, that means its ok to reduce disability benefits for all?? Really?

And what's with the tax outrage? 80K is a bloody decent wage - I'm on half that and would happily pay more tax if it went to the NHS and public sector.

Yes I do think JC is a credible leader - and no I won't be voting for TM.

AccioMerlot · 08/05/2017 21:23

Actually, no, ocsock the mainstream press are not really held to any standards of responsibility.

The PCC will only hear a complaint if you are personally affected by it.

So if the Mail runs a massive headline tomorrow saying "90% of UK muslims support ISIS" and in the last paragraph say 'could hypothetically be the case if someone did a survey', there's nothing anyone can do about it.

OCSockOrphanage · 08/05/2017 21:34

ConstantlyCraving, like it or not,a few, A FEW, a minority of people abuse the system. I knew someone who bragged about it, so it is clearly not perfect (he was a cretin so the system ought to have been smart enough to have eliminated him). But as we are all paying for it, and most of us are not getting anything from it until we are 67 (or older if the rules change), then we are all chipping in. I have no problem with paying for the elderly or the seriously disabled to live a dignified life in protected circumstances. However, if you are able bodied and have never bothered, then I begin to get cross. We are all paying to have children educated; is it asking too much that parents insist children participate in the process?

user1489179512 · 08/05/2017 21:35

Labour are out for a generation. Dire.

OCSockOrphanage · 08/05/2017 21:36

The Daily Fail and the Sun are entertainments, not newspapers.

worcestersauce29 · 08/05/2017 21:37

NHS worker, Tory voter. ducks

OCSockOrphanage · 08/05/2017 21:47

I am reluctant to pay a penny more in tax because, as an old gimmer, I have seen so much tax revenue pissed up the walls for the last 40 years, to the benefit of no one except the civil servants who "administered" the programmes and got their knighthoods and the politicians who had the daft ideas in the first place.

ConstantCraving · 08/05/2017 21:47

So it's only the physically disabled who should be entitled to help OCSocks? Those with neurological conditions / MH don't qualify? And again, even if a few manage to abuse the system - why should the others suffer? I don't understand.

RedMetamorphosis · 08/05/2017 21:57

I think most people would be happy paying a modest amount extra in tax if it actually all went to those in need.

But it doesn't. Too much falls into a black hole, never to be seen again or to go to worthless, vanity projects, that don't benefit anyone, let alone those in need.

Nicemil1 · 08/05/2017 21:59

user sadly I think you may be right. My only hope is when Corbyn looses sense will prevail and labour elect a credible leader. They may then shake off the disaster that is Corbyn, Abbott etc but equally the party may split.

It's 50/50 or as Dianne would say 50/90..

uglyflowers · 08/05/2017 22:02

This is the result of the Tories' ' strong and stable' leadership:

Seriously, is there ^anyone^ on MN who does not want Labour to win on June 8?
OCSockOrphanage · 08/05/2017 22:10

No Constantly, I am not ruling out mh or other life changing disabilities for eligiblity. Because I didn't explicitly mention it, doesn't mean I rule it out. But, warning, here I get hard-nosed, I do think it means some people need a stiffer lip.

notquiteruralbliss · 08/05/2017 22:10

There are all sorts on on here. To me it feels as if most of mumsnet is mega right wing. But I'm one of those 'Turkeys voting for Christmas' I keep reading about on Facebook. I earn enough to pay more tax if Labour get in (thanks to decent schools, a student grant and no tuition fees) but will be happy to vote for them. Just wish I didn't live somewhere where my vote won't count.

OCSockOrphanage · 08/05/2017 22:13

You'll be happy that I'm turning in now!

JustAnotherPoster00 · 08/05/2017 22:14

She called it now because JC is so useless

Sure, sure, nothing at all to do with the election expenses, nothing at all, move on, nothing to see here, strong and stable strong and stable Hmm

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 22:17

i do think it means some people need a stiffer lip

Bloody hell

susanboozan · 08/05/2017 22:17

This has to be the most boring an unnecessary election in fkn history.

Apart from Theresa May turning into a dictator. LOL.

FelixtheMouse · 08/05/2017 22:23

The election expenses argument won't run. Labour, you may recall, faced the same charges in 2015 and paid the largest fine ever imposed. I don't believe it played any part in TM's thinking. She went (1) 'cos Labour are crap at the moment & (2) a large majority will let her give two fingers to the Tory right.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 08/05/2017 23:00

Of course she called the election as she knows she is going to win and with a larger majority it's been handed to her gift wrapped

A larger majority means less hassel when pushing through Brexit plans

If Labour were in power and in the same position they to would call an election now

Labour once again in the wilderness maybe it is time to split

frenchfancy81 · 08/05/2017 23:36

I don't.

derxa · 09/05/2017 05:33

"Apart from Theresa May turning into a dictator. LOL"
Assume this is a joke.
