Come out, come out wherever you are!
I know it will mean you will be attacked and preached at, you will be told you are rich, uncaring and hate everyone except yourself, but will anyone stand with me and admit to planning on voting Conservative on June 8?
I can't be the only one surely? I didn't vote the Conservatives in by myself in 2015!

Radishal it's just so tiring and depressing isn't it!!

JanetBrown2015 · 08/05/2017 17:24

Corbyn and Livingstone are not anti semitic (and I write that as a life long Tory supporter). They have been unfairly labelled as such in the press.

Most of us on left and right actually want the same things but we just have a different way of seeking to achieve them. I respect people on both sides and I hope everyone votes. What concerns me more is women (and men) who don't vote and have no interest in anything political or the country. I try to make sure all my children are involved in the political process and understand how important it is.

HelenaDove · 08/05/2017 17:25

The Tories got in again in 2010 They didnt implement PIP until 2013 Now why do you think that is? Why not 2011? Or 2012.

TWENTY TWELVE. I will tell you why they didnt implement it until 2013.

Because they didnt want the way they were treating the disabled to get into the press or on social media in the run up to and during the London Paralympics of 2012.

Because that would not have looked good at all.

So not only do they attack the disabled They are sly with it as well.

Nicemil1 · 08/05/2017 17:27

So it's a pity we haven't a credible opposition pointing that out Helena

Bangs head against the wall again.

How do you muster a credible opposition if certain elements, I don't know....go on social media and advocate voting for the party in power?

Heck, it's not a conspiracy theory....it's right here on this thread.

Again, there is a democratic method for Labour Party members to choose the leader. If it is indeed just a "bunch of 25 year olds" - and I think their voices count too - and "left wing communist old cretins" like me, then it shouldn't be that hard to elect Cooper or David Milliband or Starmer or someone.

And when you do...I will grumble and plot (amongst the membership)....but support them in any GE.

Queensofnyc · 08/05/2017 18:16

Well said makeourfuture!

Theworldisfullofidiots · 08/05/2017 18:37

One of the rumours make as to why we are having an election now is that David Milliband was on his way back from the states to eventually contest the labour leadership. May knew she'd have more of a fight on her hands....

If your worried about social media posts actually changing someones mind then you really have swallowed too much momentum kool aid, I would put down your 'hashtag and instead of asking for unity, which ironically, for the past 18 months you and your momentum buddies have told anyone who does not worship corbyn to fuck off to the tories, and actually listen to long time labour voters issues.

Your blind loyalty is what is going to kill the labour party, not people posting on social media that they are considering voting Tory

And we get accused of 'the cult of personality'. He's not going 2 come back

I've seen that, I think considering this election cycle gives them one more year it is more to silence the "she has no mandate" argument, both here and from the EU.

If the rumours are true about the Labour Party Conference and the parachuting of momentum candidates into safe seats, milliband wouldn't get an easy ride anyway.

Justanotherlurker · 08/05/2017 18:51

He is Blair 2.0, i think its more of a case of the one that got away in some circles of Labour.

He would have been better than Ed the first time round, but yeah can't see what he could offer now.

summerbreezer · 08/05/2017 18:59

I am not voting for labour, I am voting against a Tory landslide.

What our country needs right now is a coalition government. That will lead to checks and balances on Brexit.

Con vote from me

Radishal · 08/05/2017 19:42

You do know that Milliband D would have to get a seat as an MP before he could be party leader. Which would take another election or by election then a party vote. As Momentum are threatening to deselect centrists and impose minions, David Milliband is unlikely to have been party leader in 2020 to face off with the Conservatives.
Maybe a better understanding of our electoral system would help.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 08/05/2017 19:46

Yes I do know that and thank you for your rather patronising comment.
The rumour (and it was a rumour so maybe I should have kept it to myself as obviously I was absolutely stupid to add anything to a debate on mumsnet, I'm beginning to realise) was that he was planning to come back and contest a by-election before 2020.

Radishal · 08/05/2017 19:50

The idea that TM called it now for fear of DM just doesn't sit. She called it now because JC is so useless and perhaps by the time the shit hits the fan in 2020, even useless would look better than the Tories.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 08/05/2017 19:57

And it's convention not actual law that the PM has to be a sitting MP (dusts off politics A Level). Though it would be highly unlikely to be otherwise.

Nicemil1 · 08/05/2017 20:08

make

Can I ask you some questions?

1 do you think labour will win the next election?

2 do you think Corbyn, Abbott etc are sensible credible balanced leaders?

3 do you not see that labour are being torn apart again by militant tendency/momentum?

4 do you think the most important thing a party can do is to get elected so they can change things?

Rhayader · 08/05/2017 20:24

I will be voting Tory. We live in a Labour constituency but it was pretty close and will almost certainly go blue this year.

Labour have publicly announced that they would expect people in our situation to pay more tax and I'm not going to vote for that.

McDonnell has hinted at a 60% tax for people earning over 100K, apparently he is completely oblivious to the fact that there is already a 62% marginal rate of tax between 100,000 and 122,000. A 60% rate of "income tax" would mean the marginal rate would be 80.5% once NICs and the loss of the tax free allowance are taken into account.

If an marginal tax rate of over 80% is considered "modest" labour can fuck right off.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 20:25

Far better the Tories then who can cut £30 a week from peoples disability benefits Hmm

OCSockOrphanage · 08/05/2017 20:37

I wonder how many people here pay for (and read) an adult newspaper, including the think pages in the middle. I would not be so rude (on a serious thread) as to suggest that many people are reacting to what comes up on their FB account or the televised news, but some people seem to be viewing such feeds as information. Masses of the stuff being "published" is fake news and misinformation. Say what you like about the political preferences of the owners of the mainstream press, but they are held to fairly serious standards of veracity and responsibility. The same is not true of social media.

OCSockOrphanage · 08/05/2017 20:47

Should we talk about disability benefits and claims? I am certain that yours, and everyone else here is completely legit, but the only person who acknowledged receiving disability benefit of my first hand acquaintance was a lorry driver working two jobs freelance and getting a services pension at 35. Sadly, there are people who will take the piss advantage and they will eliminate the goodwill that most generous-spirited folk (even Tories) feel towards those in need.

JanetBrown2015 · 08/05/2017 20:48

Rhay, well said.

(OCScok I've read the Times and FT newspapers every day they have come out since at least 1985 if not earlier and other media too but I always try to read lots of sources)

OCSockOrphanage · 08/05/2017 20:54

The country is "too right wing for him" Monkey? So who else here has the vote?

The inhabitants of this island and the six counties are the one who might elect him....! As far as I know, we are not inviting the citizens of any other country to vote, or did someone change that rule too?
