Tell me honestly if this is normal for an 18 yr old girl. I'm so completely done with telling her to tidy her room. Sorry the photo is sideways.

OP posts:
TyneTeas · 06/05/2017 11:38

Another one confessing that it's probably tidier than my own room Blush

BertrandRussell · 06/05/2017 11:41

Why does it matter to you whether her room is tidy or not?

ifyoulikepinacolada · 06/05/2017 11:41

Totally normal. Does she know you've posted this picture?

carefreeeee · 06/05/2017 11:44

Looks pretty tidy to me. YABVU for posting a picture on the internet!

Headinthedrawer · 06/05/2017 11:46

Normal. And the thing is -it's her room. How does she feel about her room being put on the Internet?

SmokeCloak · 06/05/2017 11:47

Yes the picture shaming is out of order.

LedaP · 06/05/2017 11:50

As the parent of a 13 year old, i woild say 'meh'.

Dds room is tidy today as she has friends coming over. But by tomorrow it will be back to normal.

TesticlesInTheBlender · 06/05/2017 11:54

I'd say that was pretty grim, but then I do like to have a tidy house and the includes the bedrooms.

SparklesandBangs · 06/05/2017 11:57

That's tidy to an acceptable level in this house - I have 2 teenage DC (well one is just of if her teens but still bad)

Every time I moan my DM reminds me I was as bad until well into my 20s

happypoobum · 06/05/2017 11:57

Totally normal. I have a DD whose room looked like that most of the time.

You can't see the floor in DS16 room

LordPercy · 06/05/2017 11:58

That's tidy compared to my 16 yo's room. She's far messier than either of her brothers.

BlueEyeGreenEye · 06/05/2017 11:58

If she made the bed it wouldn't be bad at all. Just don't go in there.

Haffdonga · 06/05/2017 11:59

I'd say what happens in a teenage bedroom stays in a teenage bedroom. Shut her door, don't look at it then it wont give you the rage.

When she runs out of clean pants or has ruined her best top because she's tripped over it she'll learn to pick up.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/05/2017 12:00

Very tidy compared to my dses. Totally normal to tidy I'd say.

LittleNellsDog · 06/05/2017 12:01

Looks pretty standard to me, just shut the door.

ifeelcraptonight · 06/05/2017 12:01

I do agree you've crossed a line putting a picture up on here - unless she knows you've done it it's a massive invasion of privacy it's her personal private space and you've put it on the internet for all to judge.

SuperFlyHigh · 06/05/2017 12:03

That's quite tidy!

I can see she has some storage space but if you really want to get her to tidy makeup etc away, IKEA, Lakeland etc have good ideas for makeup carriers, boxes etc, shelving units. May encourage her to be more organised.

OP I am worried that you snuck into my house and took a pic of DD's room. Seriously have you not heard that most dc's room are like IKEA- you go in looking for one thing , but come out with 3 cups, 4 plates, and 7 bowls!

Babyroobs · 06/05/2017 12:04

That looks good compared to my 3 teenage ds's rooms. Ds2 has half empty Lucozade bottles strewn across the room amongst plies of dirty clothes and clean ones all mixed up together.

Booshbeesh · 06/05/2017 12:06

It's looks CLEAN and thats what id be focused on. She looks like she jumped out of bed fussed what to wear searched for hair straighteners done her make up and gone out. It's not dirty or grim its just disorganised

hmcAsWas · 06/05/2017 12:06

Very normal.

Comparable to my 15 year old's room - albeit your dd's room is a bit more orderly than my dd's

I am quite surprised that other posters are saying that teenagers are able to keep their room as they please. I do insist that my dd tidies up once per week so that I can get in there to hoover - but that's probably because we have previously suffered from a house moth infestation which was a total bastard to eradicate.....and they are encouraged to breed in dark dusty fetid corners!

In between her weekly enforced tidy up sessions I am happy for her to live pretty much as she pleases

wisemonkey · 06/05/2017 12:06

Totally normal for one of mine when she was that age. It was the half drunk mouldering mugs of tea and coffee that irritated me the most. I'd suggest keeping the door shut at all times. She has improved a bit since going to Uni so there is hope. Her 3 sisters are all much tidier. won't your dd be annoyed if she finds out you've posted a photo?

Ginandplatonic · 06/05/2017 12:06

Not normal at all - you can see both the carpet and the top of the dressing table. Smile I just close the door on my kids' rooms - they are the ones who have to live with it, and that's not a battle worth having IMO.

MaisyPops · 06/05/2017 12:06

Totally normal.
