Seriously, what was ever so wrong with the EU that it has swayed life long Labour voters to vote Tory?

As above really.

Some of the swings to Tory councillors are mind boggling.

What was/ is so bad about the EU that makes this worth it?

People keep going on and on about Corbyn, vote for the party you follow not the leader, those can change!

Problem is that Corbyn has surrounded himself with an equally inadequate shadow cabinet, he has alienated the party, if Labour got in Momentum would not stand aside...

Plus, and this is a big one, it's for Labour to try and swing the voters, and so far the party under corbyn's leadership itself is failing miserably.

kimann · 05/05/2017 23:24

Maybe Corbyn is just really really really TERRIBLE? I'm not surprised the party lost so many seats/votes. Honestly - can you see him leading the country?! It's just not a viable party to vote for anymore. Don't even get me started on Diane. The party is self-imploding.

They high sparrow Grin hilarious. And yes the brief of the being labor campaign manager right now. You see I think I could turn it round by getting frank field out. The man who is actually totally in touch with what's going in in the UK right now. Put him at the head of the campaign and they would smash through.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/05/2017 23:28

I don't think Corbyn ever really wanted to be PM. If he ever were, he'd have to put his money where his mouth is, which is a good deal harder than just endlessly moaning about how awful the Other Lot are.

He invariably voted against Labour anyway from the back benches - he's just a professional 'anti'. And paid for it out of our taxes.

I doubt very much that he'll resign even now. He's just spouting the usual stuff about 'getting our message out'.

Labour really need to sort out their system for electing a leader - are two disasters not enough?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 05/05/2017 23:29

I dislike JC more because he is the reason TM will gain such a large majority

And the reason why the Tories have been able to march forward without any credible opposition

And the reason why Labour will loose many seats next month

Blowingthroughthejasmineinmymi · 05/05/2017 23:29

Yy getting like, totally agree, his mo is opposition.

BubblegumFactory · 05/05/2017 23:34

But kimann, these were LOCAL council elections.
Whether JC is electable to lead the country or not should be irrelevant.
That's not what local elections are for.

Justanotherlurker · 05/05/2017 23:37

That's not what local elections are for.

And before you backtrack and still blame the tories, a lot of people are not happy with the local labour councillors for many many reasons.

Thing is, Corbyn and his most vocal supporters have tainted the party.

BubblegumFactory · 05/05/2017 23:49

I tell a lie, TM did one positive thing.
She sacked that mealy-mouthed, fish-faced, disabled-shaming, self-promoting, chip on his shoulder gobshite called Gove.
But it doesn't count.
She gave us that incoherently rambling, giant toff of a toddler Boris instead.
Cancels it out.

Lovemygirls2015 · 05/05/2017 23:50

Very small turnout everywhere which I suppose is expected with council elections. People are good at complaining about their local council but just don't bother voting to try and change things. Corbyn is trying to take Labour back to the old days when it stood for the workers and their rights but too many people don't remember the old Labour Party they just remember Blair and his lot. Sad to think that descendents of the workers that fought hard against Thatcher and her party have now voted Tory because they don't like Corbyn. I'm sure their parents/grandparents would be proud 😔

Justanotherlurker · 05/05/2017 23:51

BubblegumFactory

Using the oh so humours "name calling" of opponents always wins people over

BubblegumFactory · 05/05/2017 23:52

Lurker are you referring to me?
If so, I don't get your point.
If you don't like your local labour councillors and vote Tory instead as they are better candidates, that's your choice.
My point was simple.
Jeremy Corbyn has nowt to do with my local council.

BubblegumFactory · 05/05/2017 23:56

I've every right to dislike Gove and Johnson and use whatever language I like to do so.
Christ.
It's not a personal attack on Tory voters.
Just on a couple of prize twats.
But go ahead and defend the pair if you like.

BubblegumFactory · 05/05/2017 23:57

Not trying to win anyone over either.
I couldn't care less who randoms on t'internet vote for.

Lovemygirls2015 · 06/05/2017 00:04

I agree with GETTING I dont think he ever wanted to be PM and I actually think if they did win the GE he would resign. I think his aim was always to take the party back to basics. To remind people why the Labour Party was started and what it could achieve. Great idea but is going to take a long time as the rich poor divide is getting consistently bigger by the day and people are becoming more self serving and with attitude of I'm all right jack it's going to hard work.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 06/05/2017 06:11

Lovemygirls

Labour lost many of its loyal supporters under another far left leader Foot

I know my family who who are no longer here and when were loyal Labour card carrying grassroots members in other words the the workers would dislike Corbyn to

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 06/05/2017 06:19

the fat left are as self serving as the right in the Tory party but to their beliefs it doesn't matter to them that they are not in power where they could actually make changes as long as they can stick to their ideology that is dated and they can protest against the system that damages the people they claim to care so much about

Corbyn would rather Labour be dwindled down to a small opposition than move the party more to the centre which he knows is where the real votes are to gain power and heaven forbid appeal to Blairites and how the fuck does that help the people he supposedly cares about so much it doesn't but he can still protest and polish his halo while earning a nice wage and pension

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 06/05/2017 06:21

No one wants to be governed by far left nutters. How hard is that to understand?

Yes, sadly they want to be run by far right nutters because their leader talks like Maggie

CasperGutman · 06/05/2017 06:22

To what extent did the Conservatives gain votes, rather than gaining seats? In my area, the Tories' gains mostly came about from UKIP voters switching allegiance to them, and from left-of-centre voters switching to Lib Dems / Plaid Cymru or just staying at home.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 06/05/2017 06:22

Labour arent even far left, except in this gruesome political climate

buttercupz · 06/05/2017 06:30

They're all fucking shit.
Voter apathy must surely be at its highest at the moment, I've always voted labour and always will, but there are more centrist labour supporters who feel completely outcast by the current leader. I actually think JC is a decent bloke but he's no leader and his cronies McDonnel and Abbott are a joke.

Labour don't know who to appeal to anymore, appeal to Blairite centrists? Talk about immigration? You upset the proper lefties. Appeal to the lefties? You isolate the centrists. It's a mess.

I'd still rather have them than Theresa May, who is gonna fuck up the negotiations I'm sure.

Basically we're fucked either way. It's super exciting.

birdsdestiny · 06/05/2017 06:32

Absolutely enthusiasm.
In fact I think the far left may be worse than the tories. Some of the Tory party at least believe the rubbish they spout about 'working your way out of poverty' etc . The
left know their ideology is damaging to the vulnerable but they just dont care. I am furious. People saying that those of us who are Labour party voters should remain loyal have no concept that the labour party as we knew it no longer exists.

buttercupz · 06/05/2017 06:41

Also our right wing press will rip anything other than a centre left leader apart. Look at ed, hardly che guevara yet he was annihilated by murdoch et al. OH MY GOD LOOK AT HIM EATING A BACON SANDWICH ALL WEIRD.

Fucking depressing.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 06/05/2017 06:41

Under Corbyn the party has moved to the left rather than centre left

If the party was centre left with a leader that was able to lead an opposition and hold the government to account put forward good solid workable proposals for our economy and Brexit plans that the leader showed interest in and the leader didn't have such dubious contacts and history Labour would stand a chance of winning

But there isn't that choice there is one that hasn't got a clue how to deal with his infighting party shows little interest in discussing Brexit and fumbles about like a student union rep and one that has got their party into shape and has had experience of high office she isn't a great politician or leader but is by far the more professional of the two and some wonder why when we are moving into the most complex of times with the Brexit negotiations coming up people are not supporting Labour

I think it's quite easy to see why people are turning away from Labour
