I've used when I've fretted that it isn't clear I'm taking the piss/teasing. It's my equivalent of Uncle Bryn's "Joking, I am!". But it does look a bit twatty.

However you're correct to ignore replies to you that use it in your direction because it signifies that they're treating you, rightly or wrongly, with scepticism and probable contempt. Unless they're a normally nice poster who's unaccountably got the wrong end of the stick and just misunderstood your meaning, no good will come of further interaction.
