To get the rage with clapping?

Not applause. That's fine and a great way of showing appreciation.

It's the "clap along with the music" which makes me cringe. It's like being back at pre-school. Gives me the rage when the kids do it and they now know better than to clap along to the car radio. Gives me the rage even more when some crappy performer tries to encourage audience participation by getting people to clap.

Just NO.

Oh my god, no YANBU!

I go to the theatre a lot and get the rage when I've paid a small fortune for a ticket and the audience claps along (usually out of time) so loudly you can no longer hear the perfomance! does my head in!!

Maudlinmaud · 04/05/2017 16:05

Really Pike thats the joy of it. Sometimes a cringe is brillant, it took skill to get that level of awkward.

RhodaBorrocks · 04/05/2017 16:07

Guessing OP doesn't feel like a room without a roof

Clapping doesn't bother me, it's when people stamp their feet as well that winds me up!

TinfoilHattie · 04/05/2017 16:08

Very glad I'm not alone on this!

Oh no just remembered. I'm going to the circus on Saturday. Clapping hell.

magicstar1 · 04/05/2017 16:15

This has just reminded me...My friend got us concert tickets for my birthday. She's going to be standing in the seats, cheering, clapping and singing. I prefer to sit in my spot and listen to the music. It's going to be a nightmare Confused

'Audience percussion' at The Gloaming gigs. Makes me want to kill people. I paid forty euros to hear the band, not the audience!

Chippednailvarnishing · 04/05/2017 16:17

Grown women who clap when they're excited make me violent. And God help them if they are also wearing crocs.

TinfoilHattie · 04/05/2017 16:20

Worst experience of this was seeing a west end show - it was the one about Buddy Holly. The end of the show is the "concert" performed by Holly before his plane crash. The entire fecking audience was expected to get up and dance in the stalls.

It was excruciating. Just AWFUL. Never a fucking gain.

I'm with you OP. I was at a Leonard Cohen concert a few years back and the couple in front clapped along the entire time. WHY? Apart form the general lameness of clapping along - Leonard Cohen's music is not really the kind that inspires clapping along is it?

They also had a bag of sandwiches with them, that was kind of odd too.

Chippednailvarnishing · 04/05/2017 16:24

I can sympathise. I went to see cats and not only did I have to endure grown men in spandex, wearing makeup staring at me, the tone deaf woman next to me sang along with every fucking song.

toffee1000 · 04/05/2017 16:25

Jesus some of you people are fucking miserable...

TinfoilHattie · 04/05/2017 16:28

No, what's fucking annoying is the inane clapping and the people around you nudging you and encouraging to join in with the forced "fun". It's awful.

toffee1000 · 04/05/2017 16:30

OK, fine. You shared your opinion, I shared mine:

fruityb · 04/05/2017 16:30

I'm with you!! I hate it!

seoulsurvivor · 04/05/2017 16:34

Little difference toffee

We said we don't like clapping, find it annoying etc.

You judged us.

Not the same.

You can be happy without enjoying cringey shite.

toffee1000 · 04/05/2017 16:36

But aren't you judging people who do clap?

Maudlinmaud · 04/05/2017 16:40

Oh the Buddy Holly stage show, I recall my showband mad parents going to that years ago and telling me they jived in the aisles. Thank god my teenage self was spared that mortification.

seoulsurvivor · 04/05/2017 16:41

No. I'm saying I don't want to do it.

RandomDent · 04/05/2017 16:46

We also did Last Clap Challenge at school. And if anyone did clapping along, we deliberately went out of time. Grin

TheMysteriousJackelope · 04/05/2017 16:58

YANBU.

Every time I have experienced clapping along, the people clapping have done so off beat and not even in a reasonably syncopated way either, just random shoddiness. It is distracting from the rest of the music.
