To think people aren't too tired just lazy... dinner

I get that once a week maybe or even twice, people have had long days, myself included, out since 8/9am this morning, and get home not bothered to cook a big meal.... though isn't it just like washing? We need to eat, we need to wash, myself included i fell into a rut of eating crap (oven baked) food like breaded chicken oven chips, beans etc cause i was ''too tired'' to cook dinner, when in a matter of fact i was just lazy....

Seen someone comment back to something similar earlier, saying 'bloody hell people nowadays are too tired to cook a meal for themselves' what is the world turning into?
Not going against anybody, i've been guilty of it too and i can admit it was pure laziness.. it takes only a few minutes to throw together a quick/fresh/homemade meal..

my sister is still like that, 5 nights out of 7 she's too 'tired' to cook, even if i offer shed rather buy a takeaway or eat a disgusting cheap oven pizza :S ( i know loads are nice)

she's not posted since that happened

Probably off getting dinner started - peeling the spuds and so on.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 03/05/2017 16:40

I've not forgotten the time that DH cooked pearl barley in 10 minutes... it was like bullets!

With DCs of the high carb, veg dodging stage of childhood, I reckon some nights of oven cooked beige has more practical nutrition than an untouched plate of lovingly home cooked food. It gives my ears a break from the whingeing too.

BeeThirtythree · 03/05/2017 16:40

Some are sticklers for good grammar, spelling and punctuation and say it is laziness to not ,in this day and age of spell checking, apps on smart phones and autocorrect display errors in anything we type online.
Are all those who can't be bothered to count their 'elliptical dots' lazy?
Everyone is different and does what works for them using the best tools at their disposal to the best of their knowledge and ability.

If cooking is akin to washing then does everyone take hour baths? I do and anyone who does not is just lazy!! I manage it with 2 DC and working FT!

'

I like the look of that!'

It's great for porridge, too. You put in about half a cup of porridge and then add in 1 cup of water or milk and whatever you want to flavour it. In the morning, microwave for 1min., stir, microwave another 30 secs. Leave to stand a minute, breakfast is ready. I'm not such a fan of porridge but I do like it on days when I have a long or hard hike or run because it won't upset my stomach.

llangennith · 03/05/2017 16:41

I think you make a good point OP. I don't like cooking from scratch every night, it's soooo boring.
I try to prep two or three meals sometime over the weekend.
Peel a load of potatoes, mash and put one meal's worth in fridge, rest in freezer in small portions.
Make a large batch of mince& vegetables for shepherds pie and add a jar of bolognese sauce to half.

user3459859083590890 · 03/05/2017 16:41

I saw that a rather unpleasant post she put was deleted

Aw, boo! I missed that.

Hope OP wasn't getting wound up after all! I thought we were supposed to be the ones getting wound up? Wink

ThymeLord · 03/05/2017 16:43

Cheers for that expat. Just ordered one!

FrenchMartiniTime · 03/05/2017 16:43

Perhaps she has seen the light and nipped off to the shops for fish fingers and smiley faces?

Gwenhwyfar · 03/05/2017 16:43

"it takes only a few minutes to throw together a quick/fresh/homemade meal.."

You know it takes more than 'a few minutes'. You also have to factor in the extra shopping, washing up, cleaning, etc.

user1493759849 · 03/05/2017 16:43

But @user wouldn't she be at one of her jobs at the moment? :D

PickAChew · 03/05/2017 16:44

Scratch the curry. DH has offered to stop by the chippy. Even better!

expatinscotland · 03/05/2017 16:45

They're awesome, Thyme. DD has one, too, so she can make her own ramen noodles as she pleases. We're big fans of the microwave because we're lazy as all fuck.

MitzyLeFrouf · 03/05/2017 16:45

She probably brings a 10kg sack of spuds with her to the office and peels them at her desk. Whilst tutting at Janice in HR and her Boots meal deal lunch. Multi-tasking you see.

SongforSal · 03/05/2017 16:46

Who cares?

I'm throwing in breaded chicken, chips and peas tonight. Might add a few garlic slices.

Tomorrow I'll be cooking a dinner from scratch. (Spag Bog with Parmesan).

There's no need to be continuously tied to the kitchen. Also, whats with the shamming of the oven Pizza? We had some fab ones from Tesco at the weekend......some bbq pulled pork and cheesy delicacy. Served with salad and sweetcorn obvs :)

Gwenhwyfar · 03/05/2017 16:47

"got back at 10.30 last night... got in made dinner, thats after going to a exam and 2 different jobs..so i see laziness tbh"

So you ended up going to bed too late probably. I see that as stubbornness.

HoneyDragon · 03/05/2017 16:47

I like CousCous, that passes the middle class judgey fucker assessment, but really it's just pretentious pot noodle for grown ups.

I did a whole thread on those.

user1493759849 · 03/05/2017 16:48

@user3459859083590890; The deleted post was Page 6, around post No. 13 I think she called us all fools, idiots etc, and said we were all so stupid because we had fallen for a made-up thread.

Shortly after, I said I don't believe it's made up and she is just saying this as she hasn't got the replies she wanted. But a minute after I posted that, the post was deleted by MNHQ.

user3459859083590890 · 03/05/2017 16:48

Three dots are lazy. Always go the extra mile, I say............................................................ Grin

PickAChew · 03/05/2017 16:48

pls somebody tell me how eating at 11pm works?

You have a glass of wine. It's nice, so you have another. You get peckish, so grab a packet of crisps. And more wine. Even more peckish, so the quiche you were saving for tomorrow's lunch cops it. Washed down with more wine.

That's how it works in my house anyhow!

BeMorePanda · 03/05/2017 16:50

yes I'm simply too fucking lazy to cook - after getting the DC off to school and myself off to work, putting in 8.5 hours in the office, family shopping at lunchtime, picking the DC up and doing reading/homework with them, not to mention getting the little blighters off to bed with a bed time story, I'm way to lazy to rustle up a "fresh homemade meal" for myself every night.

so what's your point?

expatinscotland · 03/05/2017 16:51

Or, you take out your phone, you log onto JustEat. You drink wine whilst waiting.

user3459859083590890 · 03/05/2017 16:51

@user1493759849 Ah, I see! Thanks.

I think we all pretty much gathered it was a made-up GF thread from the off. Given me no end of laughs though, so thanks for that, OP. Pity the OP didn't hang around long to join in the fun since she went to the trouble of starting and replying to the thread. Oh well! Confused

UppityHumpty · 03/05/2017 16:52

My day starts at 4am it ends at 12/1am. DH and I still find time to cook from scratch every night. Some people are lazy or don't value home cooked meals. Fair enough. But own it, don't make excuses.

AnArrowToTheKnee · 03/05/2017 16:53

Ooh, thread moved fast! I'm technically a "millenial", does that make me one of the younger generation who can't cook?

(Seriously though, I'm way more into cooking than my mum or gran. Think I might be better at it too. Just don't have the energy or the patience to do it every sodding night.)
