To think people aren't too tired just lazy... dinner

I get that once a week maybe or even twice, people have had long days, myself included, out since 8/9am this morning, and get home not bothered to cook a big meal.... though isn't it just like washing? We need to eat, we need to wash, myself included i fell into a rut of eating crap (oven baked) food like breaded chicken oven chips, beans etc cause i was ''too tired'' to cook dinner, when in a matter of fact i was just lazy....

Seen someone comment back to something similar earlier, saying 'bloody hell people nowadays are too tired to cook a meal for themselves' what is the world turning into?
Not going against anybody, i've been guilty of it too and i can admit it was pure laziness.. it takes only a few minutes to throw together a quick/fresh/homemade meal..

my sister is still like that, 5 nights out of 7 she's too 'tired' to cook, even if i offer shed rather buy a takeaway or eat a disgusting cheap oven pizza :S ( i know loads are nice)

I tend to make things that can last a couple of days or batch cook, but yes I prep food every night and make my lunch for the next day. I'm out of the house from 8 till 7.30 during the week.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 03/05/2017 16:56

Yes, you're entitled to your opinion 😊

Just because it's a stupid one, doesn't make you any less entitled to have it.

I think it's incredibly lazy not to change your 'user' name.

I think it's very goady to call people lazy.

IDoNotHaveTheFoggiest · 03/05/2017 16:59

While I'm not defending OP I do find what is portrayed/recommended on TV, magazines and so forth is to cook using ingredients so you know what is in the food in the first place.
However sometimes (sometimes not most of the time IMO) it's ok to grab things that are convenient. Eg I might grab a filled tortellini from chilled section and make a quick arriabiatta.
OP - surely the kids are not having dinner at 10.30? If you are out working someone must be caring for them and feeding them. So what do they eat? I'm guessing not something from scratch everyday?

Want2bSupermum · 03/05/2017 17:00

DH drives me mad because he refuses to meal plan. He thinks he is some top chef who can decide when walking through the door that he fancies whatever and he has some glorious fridge and pantry full of what he needs to make that meal.

It drives me nuts. I have meals in the freezer ready to go. I work long hours and in my new job will be out 6:30am until 6pm. I need organization in my life and that starts with having my meals planned out.

FreeNiki · 03/05/2017 17:01

What difference does it make to your bloody life op?
Biscuit

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 03/05/2017 17:03

Want2b but how do you know what you will want to eat that night? I nip into Tesco before I get the train home and that's when I decide

UppityHumpty · 03/05/2017 17:04

Oh ffs, search for my username. Don't care. I've put down my daily chores for all to see.

MamaHanji · 03/05/2017 17:05

Well truthfully some days I am so exhausted that i feel like I can't physically move by 7pm. My partner has had to take me to bed and then brought the baby in when he comes to bed. But then again it's been 3 months since I've had longer than 1 hours uninterrupted sleep. And days start at around 5:30/5:45 so it's pretty safe to say that yes, I am often too tired to eat let alone cook. And cooking is a big passion of mine, so that's saying something.

user3459859083590890 · 03/05/2017 17:06

She probably brings a 10kg sack of spuds with her to the office and peels them at her desk. Whilst tutting at Janice in HR and her Boots meal deal lunch. Multi-tasking you see

Why stop there? Don't forget the broom up the arse trick. An oldie but goodie - means you can sweep the floor while you're at it.

Badcat666 · 03/05/2017 17:09

Well we are having KFC! yes! Get right in!

MrBC is getting it on way home. No pissing about in the kitchen for me this evening. plans to sit on my lazy arse and not give two fornications

NoDramasPlease · 03/05/2017 17:12

You cook a meal at 10.30pm? You do know it's really bad for you to eat so late! Personally I hate cooking and am rarely hungry after 3pm, I usually just have a bowl of cereal and a banana, saves on the washing up.

MamaHanji · 03/05/2017 17:12

Ah damn it. I wasted my last 2 hours worth of energy on a goady ass troll.

Garlicansapphire · 03/05/2017 17:17

Sometimes I am just knackered, sometimes lazy. Work 5 days a week, quite an intense stressy job, 2.5 hours travel every day, got to feed me and two kids - one a committed carnivore, the other a pescatarian - half of the meals are cooked from scratch some use kits/supermarket flans, quiches etc. I sometimes find it therapeutic, sometimes I just find it a bit of a bore, trying to rustle up food I want to eat as an adult and which works for both of the DCs.

Thankfully the DCs share the clearing the table and washing up...

But I would never judge anyone else or myself. As my mother used to say 'I'm sure you've got the right priorities'.

lemondropcake · 03/05/2017 17:21

Try being a postie, sweating my arse off all day out in this hot weather and being on my feet all day. Pick dd up from school and then take her to swim club or other sports. Come home and have a shower, I am dead beat. I wish I had more energy and enthusiasm to cook but my body won't physically allow it.
I batch cook on my day off or use the slow cooker and God forbid we get a takeaway once a week.
how very judgy. Working mums are tired and not lazy!

RB68 · 03/05/2017 17:22

Often it is about being mentally tired for me as well as physically. I try to meal plan but I am not the greatest at it but I do now have 2 or three standby meals for bad days. Sometimes I have just had enough of cooking for x no of days straight and having to do all the thinking about what we are having - if told what people want then happy to potter along and do it.

Want2bSupermum · 03/05/2017 17:23

livia We have 3DC ages 5 and under and both of us work FT plus we run businesses on the side.

We also live 3000 miles away in the US and the option of stopping into a tesco express is an extremely expensive one. I also just don't have the energy to deal with the stress.

OneOfTheGrundys · 03/05/2017 17:30

Shit I've been reading this thread instead of home cooking a delicious 10 minute risotto for my lovely family. I worked for an inferior number of hours this morning too and had an afternoon nap.

SaorAlbaGuBrath · 03/05/2017 17:31

OneOfTheGrundys don't worry about it, I'm a SAHM and just ordered pizza Grin

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 03/05/2017 17:33

I wasn't suggesting that Tesco was the only option... just illustrating that I buy something on the day as keeping any food in the house would be pointless.

It doesn't work for everyone but reheated food from the freezer isn't something I could face every day

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 03/05/2017 17:34

I am genuinely too lazy to cook. And generally unbothered. I really can't be arsed to keep toping up my larder with fresh ingredients

I am also tired . The two things aren't connected.

Last I checked my children don't have rickets.

Today they ate a steak slice, microwave mash and beans while I ate a cold Pop tart.

I am ashamed. Deeply.

OneOfTheGrundys · 03/05/2017 17:35

Envy jealous faces from here Saor !
It's a beige freezer dinner here tonight with whatever veg I can decently resurrect from the fridge. I can't pretend the dc don't love an onion ring or a fishy thing in batter...

MusicToMyEars800 · 03/05/2017 17:36

Awww aren't you amazing OP - you are right, I must be a lazy fucker
This and also a risotto takes longer than 10 mins..... what risotto do you make that takes 10 mins I would love to fucking know!!
well my dds just wolfed down fish fingers, chips and cherry tomatoes, gah I must be a terrible parent for not force feeding them the chicken tits stuffed with pesto and sundried tomatoes with roasted Mediterranean veg that me and OH are having Grin

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 03/05/2017 17:36

I love the idea form page 2 that my grandmother would be ashamed.

I think she is of the generation that basically invented Spam and Smash and ate boiled mince and tinned carrots. My mum's generation subsisted on microwaved baked potatoes.

It's the sisterhood!

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 03/05/2017 17:37

Music but you added cherry tomatoes ! Well done! Grin

FairNotFair · 03/05/2017 17:39

I once got a blister from stirring risotto.
I'm heading straight for sainthood via the freezer, where I'm looking for oven chips
