To think people aren't too tired just lazy... dinner

I get that once a week maybe or even twice, people have had long days, myself included, out since 8/9am this morning, and get home not bothered to cook a big meal.... though isn't it just like washing? We need to eat, we need to wash, myself included i fell into a rut of eating crap (oven baked) food like breaded chicken oven chips, beans etc cause i was ''too tired'' to cook dinner, when in a matter of fact i was just lazy....

Seen someone comment back to something similar earlier, saying 'bloody hell people nowadays are too tired to cook a meal for themselves' what is the world turning into?
Not going against anybody, i've been guilty of it too and i can admit it was pure laziness.. it takes only a few minutes to throw together a quick/fresh/homemade meal..

my sister is still like that, 5 nights out of 7 she's too 'tired' to cook, even if i offer shed rather buy a takeaway or eat a disgusting cheap oven pizza :S ( i know loads are nice)

Any spag bol that's done in 15 minutes is a shit spag bol. You'd be better off buying a ready made one.

DontPullThatTubeOut · 04/05/2017 11:17

Well no because I don't really like the taste of microwaved food.

DontPullThatTubeOut · 04/05/2017 11:17

I can make it in 15 didn't say I did. I like to give it another ten minutes to simmer.

KingLooieCatz · 04/05/2017 11:25

With a lot of "convenience" foods, well I don't find they are quicker. In the time the oven heats up I could have done a pan of pasta. Over the busy years we have built up a list of go-to really quick to cook meals that are still reasonably healthy and tasty.

It's not quite harmless to get in the habit of convincing yourself you're justified having take-away on a regular basis - more than half of us are overweight!

ArcheryAnnie · 04/05/2017 11:40

Oh, bananafish, I am totally on-board with eating bought spag bol that someone else has made! It's almost certainly better than mine, and it probably has been long-cooked, just not by me!

(But if I do make it myself then it absolutely does need long cooking.)

I don't know if I got exhausted reading this thread yesterday or what, but I did even LESS than I usually do for dinner last night. Just had some baguette and butter with a banana Grin.

OP it is posts like this that make people feel that they aren't doing enough and feel down about themselves.

Instead of opening up the floor to judgments about ourselves and each other, why don't we share quick nutritious recipes and do something proactive

What are we teaching our daughters with these attitudes to ourselves and each other?

  1. Nothing is ever good enough, even if you work yourself into the ground.
  2. Other humans do not have empathy for each other and will negatively judge you for things that do not involve them whatsoever

I think we can do much better than this.

GinIsIn · 04/05/2017 13:29

Spag Bol in 25 mins? That sounds grim, and is NOT a spag bol! A decent ragu should cook for minimum 3 hours.

AliceByTheMoon · 04/05/2017 13:30

[applauds] Dreamily.

HerBluebiro · 04/05/2017 13:50

Roses proper cooking is important to me to. I've done that fish dish type (tend not to use cod as i dislike it, but other white or oily fish) all the time - but would put it in the oven instead of on the hob.

People seem to view the oven as only any good for nuggets and chips. And in not knocking a good nugget or chip but not every day.

MirriMazDuur · 04/05/2017 13:56

What are these really quick, from scratch meals people make? Really, I'm very interested as someone who hates cooking.

DreamilyLookingOutOfTheWindow · 04/05/2017 14:15

Eatingcheeseontoast - that's a great thread some lovely ideas on there

I feel I must be confused about what cooking from scratch means, as there are ideas on there such as fish finger pie - instant mash potatoes, fish finger and beans.

I thought it meant cooking using fresh non processed ingredients (which I don't do every night) but I am literally drooling at fish finger pie but not with instant mash

I tell you what is lazy; not changing your nickname from the default 'user1315567578437'.

MirriMazDuur · 04/05/2017 16:16

Ah, that looks like quick but not from scratch stuff mostly. Some of it sounds on the grim side I have to say.

I think healthy from scratch stuff just isn't quick. Especially when you have a ridiculously fussy child and a fairly fussy DH.

I work around 65 hours per week (plus about 12 hours travelling) and am going through some professional courses/exams too.

My partner has a full time job, is doing an undergrad degree and does freelance work and voluntary work too.

Sometimes we get takeout hangs head in shame

Willow2017 · 04/05/2017 16:50

10 minute risotto? WTAF? Grin

I dont cook from scratch every night, I cook something one night and we have left overs with something else added the next is that a crime to?

Laughing at how uninformed OP is about anyone who doesnt cook from scratch every night is lazy...wtf does she know about anyone elses lives, medical condititons, mental health, family life?

Like to know who made her judge and jury though. Might apply for the post....would start with judgemental fools Grin

I must admit I go to bed KRG but I barely sleep. I've perfected the art, over many years, of keeping one hand out of bed to whisk/throw something together for the next day. My other hand is of course busy satisfying my hard working, great with the kids, helps me out with housework every so often man. You have got to stay on top of these things. It's vital.

That's excellent multi-tasking, but please, please don't switch hands partway.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/05/2017 21:08

"I don't find they are quicker. In the time the oven heats up I could have done a pan of pasta. "

Yes, but you have to watch a pan of pasta so that it doesn't boil over. You can go and do something else while the oven's heating up.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/05/2017 21:12

"Mine is about 10 mins! Open pot of ready made bolognaise from Ocado and warm up in pan while cooking spaghetti. Pour over. Eat. "

I couldn't be bothered with 10 mins. I buy a cheap Sainsbury's ready meal that is done in about 3 minutes and tastes better than the one I make from scratch (about once a year).

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 04/05/2017 21:36

Some people have the energy to cook, some don't.. i call the ones who dont, lazy. big deal! We all have an opinion

I get in from work, get changed and go to the gym, and then have something quick/snacky when I get back.
Obviously, I only go to the gym because I'm too fucking lazy to chop vegetables. Confused

bananafish81 · 04/05/2017 22:21

Likewise. The ready made fresh pot of bolognaise and boiling pasta is my equivalent of cooking from scratch. Anything involving a pan or oven is basically cooking in my house. It's soup or a ready meal or a jacket potato in the microwave. Or toast. Or like most evenings this week, either nothing, or if I make myself eat, some prepared carrot batons and hummus. I'm just not interested in food enough to force myself to cook anything!

Cleanermaidcook · 04/05/2017 22:49

Starving now, this thread is making me hungry. Really fancy risotto, I'm far to lazy to go coom one though 😂😂

Cleanermaidcook · 04/05/2017 22:50
