To let my DD walk on the wall?

PrincessWatermelon · 03/05/2017 10:50

Like any other children, my 2 DDs (2 and 4) love walking on garden walls. There are some especially good ones near the school. No one has told us off, but I do wonder what the 'done thing' is. Obviously I'm careful they only walk on a sturdy wall and don't touch/harm any plants/fences, etc. Do you think this is ok or AIBU?

YANBU... get a grip people. Little ones like walking on walls.

limitedperiodonly · 05/05/2017 18:54

Thanks Whoop, it's a date. Though to be fair to you I'll leave it until I've lost a bit of weight. ATM I'm heftier than a whole nursery schools-worth of toddlers Grin

ShotsFired · 05/05/2017 19:13

... and the award for missing the point of the thread goes to Vinnyjones YANBU... get a grip people. Little ones like walking on walls.

Livelovebehappy · 05/05/2017 19:20

YABU. Guessing if your dc walked on someone's garden wall which collapsed and dc was injured, that people on here saying YANBU would be the first ones suing the owner of the wall. It's really entitled to think it's ok to walk on someone else's property.

limitedperiodonly · 05/05/2017 19:47

Has anyone ever been sued by a toddler for injuries sustained while walking on a garden wall?

Sounds like a case for Judge Rinder.

brasty · 05/05/2017 19:52

Children like running about restaurants too. Does not make it okay though.

Livelovebehappy · 05/05/2017 20:12

Limited; trust me - in today's 'where there's blame, there's a claim' culture, toddler and parent will be at the solicitors office within an hour of the incident.

limitedperiodonly · 05/05/2017 20:24

Forgive me if I don't trust you Livelove. Has it ever happened? I don't think so, but maybe you know better.

Thanks for reminding me brasty. Has anyone ever successfully sued for their toddler being scalded after tripping up a waitress?

Has it ever happened? I've never seen waitresses having to dodge hordes of marauding toddlers but it must happen somewhere because I read about it here all the time.

kali110 · 05/05/2017 20:35

limitedperiodonly i've said on numerous threads i've nearly scalded young children because theyve been running around whilst i've been cartying hot food and drink.
It's not fantasy.

limitedperiodonly · 05/05/2017 20:42

The reason I bang on about it is because it's scaremongering.

If you don't want a kid to walk on your wall, just tell them. I'd agree with you. It's your house, your rules. But don't try to pretend it's because you're concerned for their welfare or in genuine fear that you'll be sued for squillions.

limitedperiodonly · 05/05/2017 20:44

I realise that it's very annoying kali110. But have you ever been sued?

Vinnyjones · 05/05/2017 20:55

Patronising much! Hmm how have I missed the point. It's just a child walking on a wall, it's not a massive deal in MY opinion.

FluffyBathTowel · 05/05/2017 21:00

Is it OK then if I let my child clamber on your car then if it's parked in your driveway vinny? She doesn't weigh a lot so probably won't damage it and it would be fun for her. Though It's only a stranger's private property so no need for her to have any respect for it and keep off.

Hmm
Pansiesandredrosesandmarigolds · 05/05/2017 21:02

Yanbu. I really really don't see the problem. Running about cafes, now that is daft.

TheFirstMrsDV · 05/05/2017 21:13

But your kids running about in your kitchen is probably fine though Wink

MrsKoala · 05/05/2017 21:27

About 5 (pre dc) years ago I got into our car and the back was full of toys. Dh was driving (I couldn't then) and I said 'wtf are all these toys?' Dh said he'd left the car open and the kids from the street had been using our car as a den. He never locked it after that. The parents all knew too. If it rained they'd play in it. We thought it was really sweet. My friends thought we were crackers. It made me love dh more. (The car was only worth £200) Grin

Vinnyjones · 05/05/2017 21:28

Wow! Seriously, that is not the same thing. Walking on a wall is a simple pleasure for children, and clearly a parent should be aware of the dangers and be respectful. Jeez... clearly it is not something to get hysterical about. There are much bigger issues in life to worry about like terrorism and famine and war. Confused

Batteriesallgone · 05/05/2017 21:33

But Vinny, you've got time to come on here and tell us to calm down...shouldn't you be spending that time and energy tackling terrorism or something?

JacquesHammer · 05/05/2017 21:33

There are much bigger issues in life to worry about like terrorism and famine and war

Of of COURSE you're absolutely right. I can't possibly have brain space to worry about terrorism or famine or war because I am concerned about a wall. How perceptive of you Hmm

OwlOfBrown · 05/05/2017 23:50

LOL at people comparing walking on a wall and turning in someone's drive as being two harmless activities. The last idiot that used my drive to turn in, knocked my garden wall down. Thank fuck a toddler wasn't walking on it at the time!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/05/2017 00:37

Yes Koala - we get the idea. You actively encourage the neighbours to sit on your wall, practically beg hoards of people to walk on your wall, stash their shit in your car etc etc. The rest of us would rather randomers kept away from our property.

And what sort of parent lets their kid use a random car as a den? You must have some seriously piss taking people in your area.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/05/2017 00:38

But then I would dump someone who wasn't savvy enough to lock his car Grin

ThouShallNotPass · 06/05/2017 01:45

Guys, guys, calm down. It's okay. It's just walking on walls. When eventually your wall gets damaged over time then all the parents who've allowed or encouraged their children will have a whip round and pay for the repair. Right?

claraschu · 06/05/2017 04:21

I love the toys in the car story.

MrsKoala · 06/05/2017 06:25

I just thought it was a funny story no might lighten the thread a little actually Liv, and might make people chuckle a bit. It makes me laugh whenever I think about it because it's odd but sweet at the same time. Oh well.
