Ffs - it's like a bloody game of dress-up!

Because it's all about the fucking slap. Hmm YADNBU

Intransige · 03/05/2017 08:44

I'm clearly not a woman as I haven't worn makeup since I went on maternity leave six months ago. Nor have I worn dresses, or anything pink.

Sleepdeprivedredhead · 03/05/2017 08:45

"Who love books and beauty products". What. The. Actual. Fuck?
YANBU. Bloody worse than the daily mail for teporting skills there.

Sleepdeprivedredhead · 03/05/2017 08:46

*reporting. But hey I'm not pretending to be a competent writer.

WellErrr · 03/05/2017 08:48

Oh how refreshing, a man to tell us all where we're going wrong at being women.
You go girl!

pincha · 03/05/2017 08:51

I've heard that before: I had to go through adolescence/experimentation and learn how to dress like a grown up. It's like they've never paid any attention to actual adult women in their lives and are only working on a fantasy in their own minds about what a woman is... Hmm

BarbaraofSeville · 03/05/2017 08:54

I can't be a woman either because I haven't worn make up in about 20 years, have never had my nails done, work in a STEM environment for which I need a boiler suit and a hard hat on occasion.

OTOH, DP must be a woman because he loves kittens, reading and gin.

Laiste · 03/05/2017 08:55

It's like ... are only working on a fantasy in their own minds about what a woman is...

To be fair that is all a man has to go on; his own imaginings of what it's like to be a woman, because he's not one. It IS a fantasy.

pincha · 03/05/2017 09:00

That was kinda my point Laiste Grin

DeleteOrDecay · 03/05/2017 09:03

Guess I can't be a woman either because I can't remember the last time I wore make up, never had my nails done and I'm not a fan of pink. In fact most adult women I know aren't fussed about the colour pink.

I really resent the whole pink=girls, thing.

Casmama · 03/05/2017 09:08

What a tedious poorly written article!

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/05/2017 09:11

I have never worn make up. I do a "mans" job. I am usually found in a hard hat and steel toe capped boots. I was scrabbling about on rooves at 7 months pregnant.

I don't need make up or clothes to show the world I am a woman. I know I am.

LostPeppers · 03/05/2017 09:12

Tbh it's completely stereotyped but stepping back a bit it looks like most interviews with female actors.
You have so many of those 'interviews' with women where it's only about what sort of make works for them and how having the right outfit is important.

I read it like I read most 'women' magazines. No interest, boring and bland. Nothing I can relate to.
What I would love to see is less of those helpful articles telling me how to put make on etc... but I suspect plenty of women would disagree.
Because most women wear make up evereyday. Most women are careful about fashion. Etc.... Just go to the style and fashion threads on MN.

MsHooliesCardigan · 03/05/2017 09:13

The other stereotype that really pisses me off is that all women love shopping. I am clearly not a woman because I fucking hate shopping. DD emotionally blackmailed persuaded me to go to Westfield with her a few months ago and I literally had to grit my teeth the whole day. I have also never owned a handbag and have virtually no interest in shoes. I am obviously a man trapped in a woman's body. Does this mean I have to start using the Gents' loos?

dinosaursandtea · 03/05/2017 09:16

She never said that being a woman is JUST about makeup and pink! Just that these are things she's enjoying exploring. Being trans is way more complex than this, and you all know it. If a cis woman talked about makeup in her interview, you'd leave it alone - they do that all the time! The transmisogyny on this forum is disgusting.

dinosaursandtea · 03/05/2017 09:17

Also, her look is bloody amazingly and I'm taking notes.

peripericardium · 03/05/2017 09:19

transmisogyny ... the root here is gynae, referring to FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS which this person does not have. There is no such thing as "transmisogyny".

WellErrr · 03/05/2017 09:20

Cis is offensive.

Littledidsheknow · 03/05/2017 09:20

If I were a successful author (if only!) and a newspaper approached me to discuss my makeup and beauty regime I'd be fucking furious and insulted.
Beauty and the Books. Way to degrade female writers!

KatherinaMinola · 03/05/2017 09:20

This series needs to be knocked on the head sharpish - what on earth was The Guardian thinking? Nice spoof here, by an Australian blogger:
overland.org.au/2017/04/the-beauty-regimen-of-a-woman-writer/

KERALA1 · 03/05/2017 09:23

How can it be misogyny - he is a man?

AShowerOfBastardsTed · 03/05/2017 09:23

If a cis woman talked about makeup in her interview, you'd leave it alone - they do that all the time! The transmisogyny on this forum is disgusting.

I am not a cis woman. I'm a woman.

Intransige · 03/05/2017 09:25

dinosaursandtea please don't use the term "cis", it's offensive.

FairiesAlwaysWearBlue · 03/05/2017 09:27

Urgh I hate the term "cis" so offensive to women.

Plus that whole article is ridiculous. Way to go Guardian.

FeedMeAndTellMeImPretty · 03/05/2017 09:29

If a cis woman talked about makeup in her interview, you'd leave it alone - they do that all the time!

If a WOMAN (I do not accept the word cis, I find it offensive) talked about nothing but make up, I'd think she were a vacuous twat as well.

I have friends on Facebook who talk about make up a lot - the rest of the time it's about food, how much they love their 'hubs' and then how BORED they are. It does make me wonder what goes on between their ears when their whole life seems to revolve around looking pretty for their man and then making him dinner. So regressive.
