Outside my DS's school (where he's been attending for the last 4 years), parents always park on the double yellow lines at drop Off and pickup times. I'm no different. Yet today or of the blue, one mum who arrived after me but managed to find a parking bay, started giving it to me loudly, saying I was breaking the law by parking on the double yellows and was responsible for knocking children off the road and killing them. I let her go on, and held my tongue simply as I didn't think it appropriate to create a scene right outside the school in front of kids etc. She was letting it rip, in front of her son. I kept my cool ...But I've come home, thinking about this incident, and really quite upset.

I'd love my DS to walk to primary school. He'd have to cross 9 roads. I'm happy about the first 8 but the 9th is the Road outside school and is beyond dangerous with parents parking on all corners, stopping on zigzags, reversing into the main road etc. How ironic.

Andrewofgg · 03/05/2017 18:12

I thought zigzags meant Reserved for the most self-entitled arseholes around Smile

Liiinoo · 03/05/2017 18:14

I go t so sick of this when my DCs were at school. What makes some people think they can ignore the law and park on double yellow lines? Are they so much important/busy than the rest of us who park legally further away and walk the rest of the way? I wish I had been brave enough to tackle some of those lazy and inconsiderate parents. Happily a new headteacher asked the local parking wardens to start dishing out parking tickets and that sorted it out pretty quickly

Yes, she was wrong to shout but at least she wasn't endangering children by doing so.

YABVU can't stand entitled dicks who think they are entitled to park on the yellows. Make them walk to school for a week so they can appreciate just what the purpose of the zigzags and double yellows are

Cubtrouble · 03/05/2017 18:20

Are you "really upset" because she yelled at you and you think you are right or are you "really upset" because she yelled at you and you know you are wrong?

OR are you a blue badge holder and in fact perfectly entitled to park there?

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 03/05/2017 18:20

Surely this is just a wind up? or a troll What sort of cunt reflects on such incident and feels affronted, surely it isn't possible.

Lillithxxx · 03/05/2017 18:22

I've shouted at parents for dangerous parking at school. You deserved it. I've been school running to our primary now for over 14yrs and seen a year on year increase in twatty parking. What is it with selfish parents like you who think the law of the land doesn't apply to you??

AyeAmarok · 03/05/2017 18:22

You're upset because you knew it was wrong and thought you'd get away with it.

AtrociousCircumstance · 03/05/2017 18:22

She was right. Of course. You were wrong. If she hadn't shouted you probably would have just brushed it off. Sounds like she judged it well.

Stop doing it.

XiCi · 03/05/2017 18:23

I'm astounded that there are still some areas that are not overrun with traffic wardens. The traffic wardens round here are ready and waiting to pounce around all the local schools at pick up and drop off times.

catsaresomucheasier2 · 03/05/2017 18:27

Sorry but parking on double yellows gets on my fucking nerves. We've had a number of near misses at school with kids only just avoiding being hit by inconsiderate parents on them too lazy to park a little further away and walk an extra 20 yards. No exception, they apply to everyone and there for a reason. Also gets on my tits when folks Park in p&c places without kids in the car just because they have a massive car. Angry

BigGrannyPants · 03/05/2017 18:40

YABU that's how kids get run down. Park safely, legally and considerately and no one will have anything to say. I don't blame her for shouting and embarrassing you, this is a major issue at our school as I'm sure it is at more. Entitled people who think the rules don't apply to them. Does a child have to be injured or worse? People always think that everyone else is the problem and not them.

NotYoda · 03/05/2017 18:45

One of the mum's what shouted at you?

madcapcat · 03/05/2017 18:46

Xici: and at one of our local primary schools a charming parent RAN OVER the traffic warden...

That school now has the Edinburgh traffic ban mentioned above - residents all have a badge to display and everyone else is banned at certain times. It hasn't stopped the problems completely - there are still a few entitled people who just ignore it, and others have just moved the problem to the next nearest streets, but it is better than it was.

cheval · 03/05/2017 18:46

I do not miss this. Back in the day poor old lollipop man at primary school got involved in all sorts of horrors to stop people parking on yellow lines. Park further away and walk last bit. It's good for everyone's physical and mental health.

MarklahMarklah · 03/05/2017 18:50

I see this locally too. People park on the white zigzags next to the zebra crossing because they're "only going to be a minute" popping into one of the two nurseries nearby, or "just picking up from school."
Despite the fact that on three occasions people have nearly been hit by cars on the crossing because you can't see who's on it when cars are there.
I politely but loudly tell people to move. I have shouted in the past.
It's illegal and it's dangerous. I wish there were the resources to employ a ticket warden to fine each and every person every time this happens.

pepperpot99 · 03/05/2017 18:50

How ridiculous that the OP came on here expecting sympathy for being a completely selfish twat Grin and putting children in danger.

pepperpot99 · 03/05/2017 18:51

If only there were parking wardens present in the vicinity to ticket you and your fellow law breakers every single time.....that'd teach you I suppose. Money speaks louder than childrens' safety it would seem.

Roomba · 03/05/2017 18:55

People park on the double yellows outside our school, despite huge posters up warning them not to, cones and signs put out by police and traffic wardens hovering around frequently trying to stop people. A parent actually got run over outside school - the driver couldn't see them properly because of all the idiots parked up illegally. But still they persist in parking there!

Whilst this woman didn't speak to you very nicely, she only said what many other people will have thought every time you've parked there before. It's illegal for a good reason!

frazzledbutcalm · 03/05/2017 18:57

Anyone notice OP has not been back??

Touchmybum · 03/05/2017 19:07

You were lucky that being shouted at was the worst part of your morning - a child could have been injured or worse because of your selfish, entitled parking!

Wadingthroughsoup · 03/05/2017 19:19

OP? Where have you got to?

YABcompletelyU.

I hope the parents of children at The Orchards in Worthing are reading this. SO many of them are lazy, selfish arseholes who park on double yellows, zigzags and even corners FFS. Some stop directly outside the entrance to the school driveway and sit there for a minute while their little darlings faff about with bags etc before getting out. This causes lengthy queues in both directions, and often leads to those ridiculous situations where two cars end up nose-to-nose with nowhere to pull over and the two drivers waving their arms about or trying to stare each other out. All the while, families are trying to cross the road.

It's cocking ridiculous and makes me SO angry. I'm not brave enough to shout at any of them some of them look very scary but I wish I was.

At my DCs' previous school, the lollipop lady was an absolute legend. If anyone looked as if they were about to park illegally, she would stand in the space waving her lollipop about and shouting 'NO. YOU CAN'T PARK HERE'. Not her job to do that of course, but we were all grateful to her for it.
