Would you report someone for smoking with their child in the car?

JigglyTuff · 02/05/2017 09:13

Just walked past a woman waiting in her car for infant school gates to open. There was a child in the front seat. She was blowing her smoke out the window and I looked round because I could smell it and wondered where it was coming from.

Or should I just mind my own business?

We're not arguing what women do with their own bodies like we'd argue pro-choice (which I am totally for). Smoking while pregnant can lead to all sorts of health problems for the child

Ah bless, you don't even know what you are arguing about! You would if you could stop women doing what they want with their bodies when they are pregnant, it's exactly the same as pro-choice (which you clearly aren't).

Thanks for the love peeps, one aims to please Grin

PhyllisNights · 04/05/2017 22:17

user1493022461, yes I do? Pro-choice is regarding a woman's right to have an abortion. Smoking whilst you're pregnant is completely different from that. You're carrying a baby that could end up premature or die from sudden infant death syndrome. They are completely not the same thing. You're clearly the one that lacks intelligence.

@WizardOfToss, don't take a comment from MNHQ and do the complete opposite.

I'm not a troll for wanting to report something that is illegal.

Strokethefurrywall · 04/05/2017 22:59

My God this thread is amazing (happy sigh) Grin

As you were

@WizardOfToes, stop making out that I'm trolling. I'm getting sick of accusations like that.

I joined this forum, having not used forums for years. I've had some interesting discussions that have changed my opinion, particularly stuff regarding trans rights in the feminism sub-forum.

To be frankly honest, before my pregnancy, I wouldn't have spent this much time online, but I can't go to the gym and I can't go out socialising like I used to. I've found this forum quite addictive the last few weeks, but it won't be something that I see myself doing much of in the future.

I have a real existence, thank you very much. One I've had for many years and continue to do so.

WorraLiberty · 04/05/2017 23:46

My 13yo has more sense than most of you. She came home with the reg etc of a car and tells me a woman was smoking in her car with a baby and child inside.
Even my teenage daughter who's life mainly consists of make up, friends, school and electronics knows the right thing to do in that situation.

She might as well have come home with a tube of Smarties.

Anyone can take down a car's reg and claim something happened.

But without proof, it's pointless.

BastardGoDarkly · 05/05/2017 00:42

Phyllis protest to be at full time work, with a busy social life all you like, you do indeed jump up and down at the first sign of something to judge, I've seen it a couple of times now, you do enjoy it, if you don't recognise that about yourself, you need to go offline and have a bit of 'you' time.

TribeOf5 · 05/05/2017 06:48
Grin Yup, totally smug because my kids have a moral compass. You got me.
TribeOf5 · 05/05/2017 06:57

So that means she should do nothing when presented with a situation where here actions may have no impact it?

She did what she thought was right then looked for guidance and confirmation from her mum. Just like any child in most situations.

PhyllisNights · 05/05/2017 08:29

BastardGoDarkly, I just said, I don't have a busy social life like I used to? As for these diktats? I've been in HR for years. I'm used to giving out advice. If people don't like that advice, they don't have to accept it. There are plenty of threads where I'm casual and not dishing out the advice - fashion, crime & feminism threads. Just listing some examples as yourself and WizardOfToss seem to know so much about me.

user1493022461 · 05/05/2017 09:13

Pro-choice is regarding a woman's right to have an abortion. Smoking whilst you're pregnant is completely different from that

Of course its no different, the same point holds with both: that a womans body is hers to do with as she pleases, pregnant or not.
Come on now, you're just arguing for the sake of it now, you aren't silly enough not to have understood this very basic point!

Keep your nose out of other peoples business. Get a hobby. You aren't a warrior for justice, you're a small minded busybody.

PhyllisNights · 05/05/2017 11:07

I agree that a woman should be able to do what she pleases with her body, but not when it impacts on a child that she intends to bring into this world. No one should be allowed to smoke, heavily drink alcohol or take illegal drugs when they're pregnant.

There's no point is us going back and forth. We have different opinions. You can find my opinions as nonsensical as you wish. I find the idea of smoking whilst pregnant or smoking in a car or a home with a child immoral.

user1493022461 · 05/05/2017 12:42

So you DON'T agree that women should be able to do what they please with their bodies. You actually said that if you could, you would prevent them from doing so.

Come on Katie, don't back down when you've actually made a recognisable point. Stick with it.

PhyllisNights · 05/05/2017 12:59

You really do see things in black and white, don't you? If you get pregnant, and you want to keep your baby, you shouldn't smoke. It's the same thing when they're in the womb as to when they're out. Smoking, drinking or taking drugs when it only effects you is a completely different matter.

You're reversal of my insult regarding Katie Hopkins isn't funny nor does it make any sense because she's exactly the sort of woman who moans about so called busybodies and PC language.

user1493022461 · 05/05/2017 13:05

No, I don't, You do though. Seeking to control womens bodies is facism, Katie, you do know that?
You're a facist. An anti-choice, misogynistic facist.

kali110 · 05/05/2017 13:07

No sorry agree, you're not prochoice at all. Ypu may think you are, but you're not.

ThymeLord · 05/05/2017 13:09

Well I for one now have a bit of a crush on user

Yes me too BastardGo. Talk about the thread that keeps on giving.

I'm not a fascist or a misogynistic (not when I was going on about that exact point in the feminism sub forum).

There is a massive difference between having a choice in terminating a pregnancy and then going through with that pregnancy whilst smoking, drinking and/or doing drugs. What happens if it's effects the child's health? My concern isn't on how much money that would cost the NHS (which is the sort of argument you'd get from the right), my concern is on the health of the baby.

It's 2017, we know all the facts, we know what we need to do prevent health problems. Anyone can smoke all they want, but not when it's impacting on somebody else's health.

squoosh · 05/05/2017 14:42

'No one should be allowed to smoke, heavily drink alcohol or take illegal drugs when they're pregnant.'

So what should happen to pregnant women with addiction issues? Lock them in a cell?

Topseyt · 05/05/2017 15:03

Bloody hell Phyllis, you never stop! I can't believe you're still going from yesterday.

You have staying power, I give you that. But you do come across as an irritating know-it-all with a fair few axes to grind.

user1493022461 · 05/05/2017 15:32

I'm not a fascist or a misogynistic

Of course you are, you are advocating the forcing of women to behave in certain ways, and preventing them from doing completely legal things to their own bodies. It's the very definition of misogynistic.

You haven't told us how you would stop them if you could, only that you would. What's the plan?
