'Free birthing' AIBU to think this woman should not be encouraging people to do this

In this guardian article this woman boasts about her wonderful birth experience by rejecting all care including scans because "it was not empowering".
Before I had my baby (she is 2 weeks old) I would probably have thought her lack of self awareness was funny. Now it quite irrationally fills me with rage.

Fair do. You listened to medical advice and then made a decision that was right for you. You opted for a home birth under the care of a midwife who could help make that happen for you and should something have happened she would be able to keep you home as long as possible and transfer should there be an emergency.

Woman in the article didn't feel 'empowered' in her GP visit so decided to put her fingers in her ears and refuse to hear any medical advise meaning she was not in a position to make an informed decision.

I totally respect the right of women to listen to expert advice and make the choice for them, even if I disagree with the choixe/think it's risky.

What I don't respect is people who choose to pretend expert advice doesn't exist, act however they see fit whilst expecting the system to rush to their need if there is an emergency (especially one that could have been prevented had they actually taken the time to be informed about their choice).

No one really can predict how birth will go, so in terms of preventing an emergency that would be difficult to do. Unless everyone had elective sections most people run the risk of an unplanned for emergency.
Wendy savage wrote an excellent book about childbirth and giving power to women.

Freebirth is bloody stupid but people have the right to be fools

That's a bloody good summary!
