Can I safely assume she's a lesbian now? Or shall I give up my dream and leave well alone

Absolutely beautiful woman joined our team four months ago. I was friendly but she made me so nervous I kept my distance a little bit so I didn't blush and make an idiot of myself. She was clearly not lesbian. She's incredibly feminine
-and has acrylic nails-. Grin

However she made an effort to be friendly and I decided to just make a new friend in work. She added me on Facebook last night and OMG!!!

On 'interested in' it says Women. She's been to every gay pride march since 2007
-not that I checked her Facebook that far back-

She volunteers at a LGBT charity for HIV positive gay men.

She doesn't seem to have had any girlfriends but she has said previously she's never had a relationship as she's never met the one and is fussy!

She's shared a poster that says 'when people say I don't look gay. Sorry I forgot to shower in rainbows and sprinkles this morning'.

So can I now assume she's lesbian? Or could she just be very involved in gay rights?

And how far out of your league does someone need to be before you don't even bother trying.

For reference, she looks like Megan Fox. I look like Melissa Ferrick!

"I'm rather astonished so many people don't realise having long nails put up your vag (or bum) might not be pleasant!"

I'm surprised more people haven't realised there's way more to a lesbian relationship than having long nails up your vagina (or bum). But hey ho.

Grin

Ask her out! And if she cuts her nails you know you're in there Grin

Seriously though, just casually suggest coffee and see what happens.

Childish of me, but it is funny it's turned into a thread about nail length.

Mine are short and rounded. So I am ready for any eventuality.

Sex that involves insertion of fingers Grin
Or, gardening. Sad

amusedbush · 27/04/2017 16:50

Not classical guitar though. You need long nails on one hand for that Sad

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 27/04/2017 16:53

mitzy I think The Lady magazine is crying out for that tip Grin

stumpedifiknow · 27/04/2017 16:56

So women with long nails don't masturbate then...huh who knew ☺️
I have long nails 😕

I have one word for you - Plectrum Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 27/04/2017 16:58

I'm laughing at all of these people saying ask her out! The op doesn't know the woman at all, and lesbians don't go around asking out every other lesbian they meet! They're not that rare a breed Grin

tetherended · 27/04/2017 16:58

Does it matter if she is? If she's interested in you/you are interested in her then it'll work itself out in the end?

tetherended · 27/04/2017 17:00

Sorry I forgot to shower in rainbows and sprinkles this morning'."

That is more suggestive of you being a unicorn than gay perhaps?

Wando1986 · 27/04/2017 17:01

"She was clearly not lesbian. She's incredibly feminine
-and has acrylic nails-" do you not know many lesbians OP? Hmm

Every lesbian I know apart from maybe 2 are all very feminine and have acrylic or well manicured nails, get their hair done every fortnight and probably keep the fake tan and lingerie businesses in spending money.

What a strange thing to assume.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/04/2017 17:01

Maybe you could give her some nail clippers? Or would that be too suggestive?

Fruitcocktail6 · 27/04/2017 17:04

I'm surprised more people haven't realised there's way more to a lesbian relationship than having long nails up your vagina (or bum). But hey ho.

Nothing to do with lesbian or not, my (male) DP keeps his nails trimmed as we love a bit of fingering.

So women with long nails don't masturbate then...huh who knew ☺️

You have long enough arms to get fingers right up there?! Jealous Envy

Peach1886 · 27/04/2017 17:05

If she looks like MF, and you look like MF...you'd make a gorgeous couple Smile

wigglybeezer · 27/04/2017 17:05

I had to ask DH to cut his nails the other day, it can be a problem.

TipTop333 · 27/04/2017 17:09

I had to give up my menstrual cup because I can't use it with long nails and they are more of a priority to me. Long nails + vaginas = Sad

TaraCarter · 27/04/2017 17:21

I'm reading this thread from behind a cushion, because I'm cringing so much.

The OP is attracted to women and wondering about approaching another woman at work. She does not need gay stereotyping straight-splained to her, because she made a joke about long nails. Grin

Particularly by any posters who didn't even get what she frigging meant...

LozzaChops101 · 27/04/2017 17:27

TaraCarter aye, so much straightsplaining hahaha!

nowimqueer · 27/04/2017 17:28

Thanks taracarter

The long nails comment was a JOKE. Of course there are some lesbians with acrylic nails. Although it is generally seen as a very obvious sign someone isn't lesbian as lesbians very very rarely have long nails. I've yet to meet one that does. But some mumsnet users obviously know loads.

I'm lesbian. I'm well aware stereotypes are just that.

nowimqueer · 27/04/2017 17:29

There's also a world of difference between manicured nails and long acrylic claws.

OP posts:
TheFirstMrsDV · 27/04/2017 17:32

nowiqueer I am not a lesbian and I understood that it was a joke and I wouldn't dream of 'putting you straight' (scuse pun).
Crikey if a lesbian can't make a queer joke now and again we really have fallen down that rabbit hole innit?

TaraCarter · 27/04/2017 17:33

Well, OP, now you know that lesbians are not allowed to make in-jokes, particularly not sexual ones. Be told.

TheFirstMrsDV · 27/04/2017 17:36

I'm lesbian

Sorry OP that simply isn't enough
tsk

SabineUndine · 27/04/2017 17:37

Can't see any reason why you can't suggest lunch to her though? It would be a non-pushy way of getting to know her better.

anotherpoisonprince · 27/04/2017 17:40

The lesbian currently living in my house is also very much again nails (acrylic or otherwise)
We just had that conversation.
I'm bi. And wouldn't want anyone with any type of long nails paying attention to my vulva. It's just scary.
