DH has been sprayed with red dye!

This morning DH was running along the Thames towpath as he often does. He was running quite fast as he's training. There is an area where the path narrows a bit and he had caught up and was running behind a woman. He thought she moved to one side to let him pass, so he ran up behind her, at which point she screamed and suddenly sprayed him with a spray! Most of it got on his t-shirt but some of it also also got on his neck and lower face, though he didn't realise at the time. She screamed at him to get away from her and then ran back the other way. He was saying to her, "It's ok" etc, but he said she was so freaked out and looked so terrified he didn't try and follow her.
Now he has a zig-zag pattern of red up his neck and on the left side if his face and it really won't come off. He went into work and someone told him its probably a dye that the police use to mark criminals! I looked on google and it looks as if you can buy a red spray dye that won't wash off for 7 days! If it's this, it's a nightmare as he has to go to China on business tomorrow.
DH feels bad that she was so scared and her reaction actually scared him. He thinks maybe he should have held back, but he thought she was letting him overtake her. I think her reaction was a bit extreme though -AIBU? I run down that path frequently (although not at 6.30am) and I have never heard of anything like this.

WD40 may remove the dye?

Sarasue1967 · 26/04/2017 20:27

Fucking but job. Your poor husband

AsthmaQ · 26/04/2017 20:28

catisck Police will have come across of cases of this being used before and want to get it off men who have not committed a crime due to fear of repercussions from the public.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 26/04/2017 20:28

OP , after trying all these home remedies please please do not place DH near an open flame!!

myshinynewusername · 26/04/2017 20:29

This woman can't just go around assaulting people, just for daring to be on the same path as her.

She deserves to be charged with assault.

StillHungryy · 26/04/2017 20:29

Also what's to say if this is a thing that others may not falsely report the DH as a criminal that's been tagged, or someone taking the matter in their own hands

AsthmaQ · 26/04/2017 20:29

he is worried that they won't believe him

If he's done nothing wrong he has nothing to worry about, does he?

ZilphasHatpin · 26/04/2017 20:30

With the number of reports I have heard recently of women being assaulted either verbally or physically whilst running I can well understand why she might have been trigger happy with her spray. Not even going into the idea that she might have already been been a victim of an attack. Horrible for your DH and I agree he should report to the police incase she a) has reported him for something and b) is just going round spraying people. Hope he gets it washed off. Can't blame her for being nervy though and don't think she should avoid running because some people make it dangerous for her.

Hulababy · 26/04/2017 20:30

But it never quite works like that does is AsthmaQ.
People worry about all sorts of things, esp in this kind of situation. Doesn't mean they are guilty of something though does it?

FlouncingInTheRain · 26/04/2017 20:30

Does he exfoliate? Just thinking if he doesn't, a fair proportion of the dyed skin may be dead skin. If he has a long hot bath or steams his face for a while followed by a thorough exfoliation and then lashings of moisturiser he may be able to shed the top layer of skin and dye. May be slightly pink after, but better than red streaked.

Elphaba99 · 26/04/2017 20:31

Blistory, which part of this are you having trouble with: The woman committed an offence - the man didn't.

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 26/04/2017 20:32

Right? I actually am somewhat worried that some vigilante would assault DH because they'd assume he's a criminal...

StillHungryy · 26/04/2017 20:33

If he's done nothing wrong he has nothing to worry about, does he?

So if he is treated like he's done something wrong and feels even more victimised that's ok as he's done nothing wrong and eventually that should be proved.?

AsthmaQ · 26/04/2017 20:33

the man didn't.

No, the man says he didn't.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 26/04/2017 20:33

I'm sorry the DH got sprayed and glad he wasn't injured.
However I used to have to walk across a common on my commute to and from work and joggers running up behind were a menace. It was intimidating, especially in the dark.
The decent ones would give a wide berth. I suggest the DH does that in future when he is able to.

user1492958275 · 26/04/2017 20:34

I think this is terrible. Absolutely awful. Your poor husband.

Not all men are rapists/criminals/peados. It's such a shame that women have to feel on edge on the time.

I'm pretty gutted reading this thread and some of the replies. I understand why some people are the way they are but when innocent people suffer pain or humiliation it does makes you think.

And now I hope she thinks twice next time, if you are genuinely worried about being attacked, run at a suitable hour in a busy location. A man shouldn't have to cross a road to avoid being attacked 'just incase'..

A woman should never feel intimidated either, but in this situation it's the husband I feel bad for.

Goldfishjane · 26/04/2017 20:35

Notausernumber, it was a narrow point on the Thames towpath, how could you give anyone a wide berth?!

Mrbluethecatt · 26/04/2017 20:35

Mojit0 i would suggest he just say he was sprayed with paint while running and that he has reported it to the police. Simple and factual.

TheElementsSong · 26/04/2017 20:35

The decent ones would give a wide berth. I suggest the DH does that in future when he is able to.

What, by jumping in the canal and swimming past?

Elphaba99 · 26/04/2017 20:36

Well OBVIOUSLY we don't know what happened, but I can only give my opinion of what the OP says. And as we are on the internet and are not in a court of law, we can only go on the info we're given.

Sirzy · 26/04/2017 20:36

Giving a wide birth on a tow path would be pretty difficult ... unless he is doing some triathlon training!

Perhaps if the woman is that skittish she should give tow paths a wide birth!

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 26/04/2017 20:37

I'm pretty gutted reading this thread and some of the replies. I understand why some people are the way they are but when innocent people suffer pain or humiliation it does makes you think.

I am very much against just spraying people because they could be rapists/attack in other ways.

But pain?

Blistory · 26/04/2017 20:37

BoneyBackJefferson

So your suggestion is that women should be allowed to assault men if they feel unsafe.

That's pretty low and you know it. Anytime you feel like commenting on something I've actually said and in context and I'll happily have a discussion.

ZilphasHatpin · 26/04/2017 20:37

run at a suitable hour in a busy location.

Not always possible.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 26/04/2017 20:39

I used the words "when he is able to"
