To not understand all of this Corbyn hate

Disclaimer – I consider myself to be an intelligent and thoughtful person but also very uninformed and ignorant of political (and other) current affairs. Largely through my own choosing – I have virtually no faith in politicians and politics at all. I realised a very long time ago that the whole thing was an elaborate farce. I’ve always spoilt my ballot until Nick Clegg won me over and then proved, unequivocally, that I was right to not trust them. I vowed never to vote again but I’m feeling stirred to this time around and have therefore been looking into it more and trying to sift through the inevitable bullshit…

So – what is so bad about Corbyn? From what I understand (do remember my disclaimer and how uninformed I am!), the main people in the Labour party hate him because he is ‘unelectable’. So they’ve wanted him out for a long time but he has refused to go, on account of the fact he has been democratically chosen by the party members to be the leader. This annoys and frustrates them and they therefore blame him for creating an enormous and damaging rift in the party. But, surely, the fact that he has been elected as leader is testament to his popularity with Labour voters? And isn’t it a good thing that he stands his ground? Especially against the kind of people who would rather have someone like Ed Milliband (or his ilk – I don’t know any ‘current’ names) as party leader? Doesn’t it show that he is principled and ‘different’ from the political norm? Isn’t this something that we need?

And what does it matter if the Labour party are in shambles (a common reason I hear for not wanting to vote for them this time)? Surely that’s because of all of the ‘unelectable’ stuff above. But if he were to be elected, I’m guessing those problems would evaporate. Because he would have been elected. And anyway, aren’t political parties often shambolic? Wasn’t May’s drastic cabinet overhaul and sackings at the beginning of her reign (not to mention the Boris/Gove thing in the leadership contest) a clear sign of an ununited, shambolic party?

I realise Corbyn isn’t to everyone’s tastes politically but if you’re left leaning and want to try and get rid of the Tories, surely he’s not such a bad bet?

I’m sorry if this is making me come across as stupid but I genuinely want to know why some people (especially those who would normally consider themselves left-wing or Labour voters) dislike him so much.

If I wanted to serve myself, I'd vote Tory and not give 2 fucks about Corbyn since he doesn't have a prayer anyway.

Lalsy · 29/04/2017 19:18

Another thread in which no JC supporters can explain: how JC can win an election (with Scotland? How? If not which areas?); how his much vaunted principles sit with his Iranian state TV paid-for appearances, his stated position and voting record in NI, his stated position on the IRA; how if he did win a GE, he could run a functioning government given what sensible people of conviction and character have said about his competence and judgement (the economists who tried to work with him, the MPs who agree with some of his politics and tried to serve in the shadow cabinet); his position on the referendum and Brexit; his failure to tackle anti-semitism and the abuse of female MPs in particular, sometimes by people who claim to support him.
(for the nth time, lifelong Lab supporter, party member for years, will never vote tory).

flippinada · 29/04/2017 19:52

Hypothetically, it is possible for the LP to win without Scottish seats. However, to do that they'd have to be winning support from swing voters in marginal seats across the UK. On present form, that's not likely to happen.

NoLotteryWinYet · 29/04/2017 20:08

Yes, as Sturgeon pointed out in 2015, labour can't win in England, let alone Scotland.

Lalsy · 29/04/2017 20:09

Yes, exactly. The loss of Scotland has made it much harder for a JC led party to win. These are the sort of issues I would like to hear from his supporters on, with something other than fantasies about the polls being rigged.

NoLotteryWinYet · 29/04/2017 20:11

Yes, a campaign to take back scotland from the SNP, not go into bloody coalition with them. And Labour has had so much talent from Scotland over the years. I do like Kezia Dugdale, I agree with everything I've heard her say but I wish she'd deliver it better.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 29/04/2017 20:23

It seems that Ruth Davidson is on course to win at least 7 seats for the Tories in Scotland. Tories are ahead in Wales also for the first time in over a century.

JC and the Corbynites blame everyone and everything but the man at the front.

If the polls stay as they are the Tories are in for a majority of over 100 yet it is believed that he will stay on as leader.

How can someone be so un self aware?

NoLotteryWinYet · 29/04/2017 20:35

It's likely because we're all in thrall to the ruling class's consciousness piglet I'm sure we are he sort that need to be executed come the revolution. Peace, land, bread!

flippinada · 29/04/2017 20:35

Yes, I've been impressed with Kezia Dugdale recently. She was handed a bit of a poisoned chalice there.

Tanith · 29/04/2017 20:53

"No I don't think the Conservative Party are going to deliver those things. Lifelong Labour supporter, voter and occasional campaigner here. For what seems like the nth time..."

I never said you weren't. I just find it very strange that you would consider voting for a party with a proven record of attacking the poor, the disabled, and the vulnerable in preference to a party with a proven record of helping those people and that is far more likely to continue to do so once in power.

Tanith · 29/04/2017 21:04

"It is a growing myth that all Tory MPs are rich and Labour 'poor'."

Again, not what I said.

The Conservative cabinet members have far, far more personal wealth and a proven record of attacking vulnerable people as lazy, workshy and deserving of poverty.

Perhaps you agree with them?

flippinada · 29/04/2017 21:05

I think you must have me confused with someone else Tanith. I've never voted Conservative and don't have any plan to!

birdsdestiny · 29/04/2017 21:07

I can't speak for other posters but under no circumstances will I be voting Tory. I won't vote corbyn either. It is possible to be against corbyn and not be a conservative. This thread has made me even more worried. If corbyn supporters have such little political understanding that they think those who have spent their lives voting Labour are either right wing, bamboozled by the media, or don't understand socialism then what hope is there of corbyn and his gang understanding the electorate.

flippinada · 29/04/2017 21:13

Yes birds, apparently I'm thinking about voting Conservative, which is news to me.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 29/04/2017 21:21

Perhaps you agree with them?

Never voted Tory in my life. Been a Labour member and campaigner until last year for many years.

Knocked on many doors for local and GE.

Actively campaigned for Remain.

Have you?

So no not I'm not a 'Red Tory' or any other label JC supporters wish to call me.

Lalsy · 29/04/2017 21:31

birds, that is my worry too. I don't see how we can hope anyone will be brought in or back to the Labour fold with the persuasive techniques on display from this thread. You missed out that we would like poor and disabled people to die. Sigh,

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 29/04/2017 21:40

I don't see how we can hope anyone will be brought in or back to the Labour fold with the persuasive techniques on display from this thread

Exactly.

Social Media is even worse.

birdsdestiny · 29/04/2017 21:42

I have just 're read my post a

birdsdestiny · 29/04/2017 21:45

OopsBlush. I have just read my post again and noticed that I wrote vote corbyn rather than vote Labour. Subconsciously I obviously don't even think of it as the Labour party anymore.

makeourfuture · 29/04/2017 21:49

See the thing is, if they stuck a cantaloupe on the end of broomstick, and if it opposed the Tory agenda, I would vote for it and support it.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 29/04/2017 21:59

If Corbyn stays on I think the party have no choice but to split

It seems if you think May is running the Tories better than Corbyn is, if you think she comes over as more professional than Corbyn, if you think she will appeal to more voters to be the better person to lead us through Brexit negotiations than a Corbyn then you must be a Tory your couldn't possibly be a Labour supporter

If we had a better leader (Starmer, Jarvis) Labour would stand a good chance and would at least be able to form an opposition that works as an opposition

I am so fucking pissed off 😡

drystonewalls57 · 29/04/2017 21:59

Goodness, I am glad not to be conversing with you people anymore. You need to be examining what impact Tory policies are having on the people in this country if you actually care. And to question your consciences. As for the original poster., I hope you can find your way through all the lies and personal insults and really question what this Government has done. Guess it depended on your moral compass.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 29/04/2017 22:04

Guess it depended on your moral compass.

More PA attacks.

Maybe JC supporters should check theirs?

LibDems had a problem with anti semitism, Ward was deselected within 24hrs. The Tory MP from Isle of Wight -scandal on Friday now no longer a candidate.

So Ken Livingstone.....

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 29/04/2017 22:06

Oh dry do you think you could be anymore self righteous

Hmm
PigletWasPoohsFriend · 29/04/2017 22:07

I am glad not to be conversing with you people anymore.

How nice Hmm
