WTAF???? DH has just done this...

I know I am NBU but I just need to see if everyone else would be as fuming as I am.

DH has just picked DCs up from school. Last night DH cooked delicious roast chicken dinner. He was in charge of clearing up afterwards. There were two chicken pieces which he left on the hob in the roasting tin. I thought he was going to give them to the dog.

DD aged 7yrs has just come upto me and told me that she's just eaten two pieces of chicken and it was delicious!

I've checked...DH didn't heat up the chicken, which has been on the top of the hob in our warm kitchen, *(ie not in the fridge) for approximately 10 hours.

I thought she'd just swiped them, but no, DH gave them her to eat. FFS!

You also clearly missed my initial post. My hygiene practices are to a high standard, in fact. Which is why if I happen to leave roast chicken out, it will be fine, because it won't have been cross contaminated. :)

titihood · 25/04/2017 21:27

I can fully understand feeling upset if your DC has a sensitive stomach - food poisoning can be bloody awful and potentially life-threatening (wish I didn't know that first-hand).

However, it is unlikely that she will get ill - let DH know that if she does, he can do the looking after and cleaning up. Keep a subtle eye on her for signs of illness and try not to over-worry.

Are you mad at DH because he has done it before and have spoken to him about it previously?

lizzyj4 · 25/04/2017 21:41

This thread has completely put me off eating at other people's houses or getting takeout. Ever. Shock

Mrscog · 25/04/2017 21:56

I wouldn't worry too much lizzy - I am much more stringent when I have guests than I am day to day.

user1482079332 · 25/04/2017 22:09

Is this a thing? Id eat them

JulieP1969 · 25/04/2017 22:13

How come he had to cook AND wash up?

LilacSpatula · 25/04/2017 22:15

I wouldn't be happy either WTAF you have a fridge for this!!

Astro55 · 25/04/2017 23:27

Today 22:13 JulieP1969

How come he had to cook AND wash up?

Sonic he just washed up the situation would be ok then? What difference does it make?

Strygil · 25/04/2017 23:34

I can't believe that the OP thought this balls-achingly trivial issue was worth writing a post about, any more than I can believe that over three hundred people have thought that their balls-achingly trivial opinions on this balls-achingly trivial issue were worth sharing.

Truly, modern women do not have enough to do.

Astro55 · 25/04/2017 23:36

Hopefully some people will have been educated

Because food poisoning isn't trivial -

maceyuk · 25/04/2017 23:36

I wouldn't have been happy with my DH if he'd fed our son that, anything left out and not in fridge will be at risk of forming bacteria. I think I remember reading that food high in protein is at higher risk as it's higher in moisture, and if left In temperatures above 5 degrees it will have bacteria forming. I've had food poisoning because of this, never again would I risk leaving food at room temp, was ill for days.

Shellym13 · 25/04/2017 23:40

Ermm we do this all the time.... Never been Ill.

GlomOfNit · 25/04/2017 23:41

You are BU if you'd expected DH to give perfectly good roast chicken to the dog. What a waste!

We have done this loads of times (not in summer) and nobody has died. Relax and stop being so germphobic! Grin

JanKind · 26/04/2017 05:29

So. All I want to know is did she puke?! Wink

calli335 · 26/04/2017 06:15

I thought you were going to say she'd eaten it the following day. She'll be fine!

ArsenalsPlayingAtHome · 26/04/2017 06:22

Yourslelf included, Strygil? Loving the irony Wink

GlomOfNit - guilty as charged! Grin

ataraxia · 26/04/2017 06:29

THIS.

WorraLiberty
I'm sure she'll be fine.

But don't mention it in front of her (unless it's too late) or she'll probably start feeling sick.

alypoole · 26/04/2017 09:55

WHAT???? I hate chicken from the fridge! Bet it was delicious. Smile

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 26/04/2017 10:12

On holiday in France a few years ago we went to a restaurant which cooked your food for you over hot stones. Me and dc chose chicken, dh chose beef. Waitress brought raw meat on plates to us, we took it over to the chefs who tipped it onto the stones, then whilst it was cooking put salad onto the original plates and then put the cooked meat back on top! We all survived.

Your dd will probably be fine but I wouldn't actively do this myself. I'd have probably fed it to the cats if I'd forgotten to put it in the fridge. As others have said, though, this would have happened all the time before everyone had a fridge.

VinegarTits · 26/04/2017 11:21

Your headline just made me login to MN for the first time in 6 years!

It popped up in an email and I though Ooer my my what's he done!!? Killed the dog? Strangled the budgie? Bumped off his mil?

Christ I was on pins for a min there because of your WTAF starter Shock

Turns out he only fed your kid cooked chicken, PHHEEWW!!

accidentalbride · 26/04/2017 13:23

Strygil - I was (obviously deeply ashamed) and puzzled reading your post so I searched against your username on MN and the last thread you seemed to be very engaged in was about a lady who was outraged having found out that her husband used her exfoliating glove on his bottom. Obviously more balls-achingly highbrow than this thread!

CEOD · 26/04/2017 14:05

Give your husband a break. Men don't always think things through the way we do!

AskBasil · 26/04/2017 18:14

"Men don't always think things through the way we do!"

Funny how they manage to rule the world then, innit.

Lweji · 26/04/2017 18:19

Well, not that well, if you look around. Grin

I have to do a Food Hygiene course every few years for work. On the last one we all listened diligently to the guidelines about how long cooked food can be left out etc. The course included lunch, it was a buffet with sandwiches, sausage rolls you get the picture. After lunch someone came up to clear the leftovers and the course leader said oh leave those I'm taking them back to the office later for the team! Wtf????
