WTAF???? DH has just done this...

I know I am NBU but I just need to see if everyone else would be as fuming as I am.

DH has just picked DCs up from school. Last night DH cooked delicious roast chicken dinner. He was in charge of clearing up afterwards. There were two chicken pieces which he left on the hob in the roasting tin. I thought he was going to give them to the dog.

DD aged 7yrs has just come upto me and told me that she's just eaten two pieces of chicken and it was delicious!

I've checked...DH didn't heat up the chicken, which has been on the top of the hob in our warm kitchen, *(ie not in the fridge) for approximately 10 hours.

I thought she'd just swiped them, but no, DH gave them her to eat. FFS!

I leave stuff out for days...never got sick.

pombal · 24/04/2017 16:43

It's not ideal, but it'll almost definitely be ok.
Try not to worry.

ProseccoBitch · 24/04/2017 16:43

@Worra she said it was a chicken piece, she didn't say it was a piece that had bone in it.

itstimeforchange · 24/04/2017 16:45

5 minutes ago I noticed that DH has left last night's chicken out on the side. He will be using it for things, I am certain.

It's not the worst thing ever by a long shot, but it did annoy me. If he doesn't sort it out today and use it/put it in the fridge I will chuck it out.

But yeah, previously cooked? She'll be fine.

ArsenalsPlayingAtHome · 24/04/2017 16:45

Really? She'll be fine? Oh thank goodness! I thought food poisoning would be a dead cert after 10 hours in a warm kitchen.

Thanks! wasonthelist are you kidding, or being serious? I've just told DH that if DD's sick he'll be dealing with the fall out, and told him that I started a posted about it.

Aworldofmyown · 24/04/2017 16:46

He shouldn't't have given it to her, but its done now. No point going overboard.

AgentOprah · 24/04/2017 16:48

I wouldn't eat it or give it to the kids. DH would eat it though. Its a bit risky but will probably be fine.

klondikecookie · 24/04/2017 16:48

Whilst I'd probably eat it, it certainly isn't ideal. I'm sure DD will be fine but I'd caution your DH about letting her have chicken that's been sat out overnight. It could make her ill, but most likely won't. No need to risk in future.

CaraSl · 24/04/2017 16:49

That's disgusting of him is he normally so slapdash with their health? What a prick.

AmateurSwami · 24/04/2017 16:50

This would totally piss me off op. Is also something my dh would do. Of course you don't give a kid room temperature, 10 hour old chicken Ffs. Only on mumsnet would people say that's fine Hmm

RainbowJack · 24/04/2017 16:50

LOL! This actually made me laugh.

The amount of times my family has eaten chicken the day after. Jesus get a grip.

DrDreReturns · 24/04/2017 16:50

She'll be fine. The bacteria will probably still be in 'lag phase' and there won't be enough bugs to make her ill.

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/04/2017 16:51

I wouldn't eat it but they'll be fine. Fil got a chicken once, cooked it, left it in the oven for 24 hours, reheated it the next day then did the same day three. I refused to eat it day 3. He and dh were fine but I was Envy .

TheNiffler · 24/04/2017 16:51

He would have removed the chicken bones first, wouldn't he? Before giving the chicken to the dog?

DD will be fine, I'd only give it a second thought if it was the height of summer. Most stuff gets left out to cool overnight, we eat late.

AmateurSwami · 24/04/2017 16:52

Before we had fridges, did people just die?

Kind of, yeah. There were higher mortality rates and d&v could be fatal back then. Smile

Alyosha · 24/04/2017 16:54

This is such an interesting clash of cultures thing...my parents are people that always put things in the fridge ASAP. Fiance leaves stuff out for days. At first it bothered me, but I actually prefer leaving stuff out - we don't get sick, and it's much nicer not having lost all flavour by being all cold and nasty in the fridge.

kittybiscuits · 24/04/2017 16:54

She will probably be fine. But it's a very stupid thing to do and an absolute food hygiene nono.

foamybananasweets · 24/04/2017 16:54

My dh cooked a roast dinner once. He was in charge of tidying up and hid the carcass from our naughty cats (who would raid the bin) back in the oven. We kept pre heating the oven, warming up the chicken, at which point he would take it out to cool, then put it back in the oven to hide it again when he was done cooking. After about a week he preheated the chicken (for the eleventy million time) and thought, that smells tasty! He didn't tell me why he'd been so ill for several months, so I was really worried about him and spent several days nursing him through his "nasty virus" Now that WU!

I don't like dh leaving food out to be honest but that's cos I'm never sure that naughty cats haven't licked it Shock

He did hospitalise himself a few years ago with food poisoning from chicken.(separate incident) I have no idea what he did as I was away at the time and he won't tell me for fear of never living it down.

ArcheryAnnie · 24/04/2017 16:55

I've just eaten cold roast chicken. She will be fine.

Also, please don't give cooked chicken bones to your dog. The dog may not be fine if you do so.

Alyosha · 24/04/2017 16:55

Amateur,,,back then being roughly 1960...?

Pinkheart5915 · 24/04/2017 16:56

Chancers are she will be fine

I've left roast meat out overnight as I forgot about it and eaten the next with salad at lunch, not been ill yet

IHeartDodo · 24/04/2017 16:56

Haha we do this all the time! 2-3 days if it's not too warm!
Although we have 2 naughty cats so we put it in a secure place or they'd have it!

AmateurSwami · 24/04/2017 16:58

Alusha ",,,,"

Before we kept food cold because we knew that was how bacteria spread. Be that in an outhouse or a fridge inside the house.

SillyMoomin · 24/04/2017 16:59

You're kidding right? Confused

She'll be fine

CotswoldStrife · 24/04/2017 16:59

No way would I have eaten unrefrigerated cooked chicken myself or given it to anyone else to eat. YANBU, OP.
