WTAF???? DH has just done this...

I know I am NBU but I just need to see if everyone else would be as fuming as I am.

DH has just picked DCs up from school. Last night DH cooked delicious roast chicken dinner. He was in charge of clearing up afterwards. There were two chicken pieces which he left on the hob in the roasting tin. I thought he was going to give them to the dog.

DD aged 7yrs has just come upto me and told me that she's just eaten two pieces of chicken and it was delicious!

I've checked...DH didn't heat up the chicken, which has been on the top of the hob in our warm kitchen, *(ie not in the fridge) for approximately 10 hours.

I thought she'd just swiped them, but no, DH gave them her to eat. FFS!

Sorry but you're overreacting. It's a bit daft but she'll be fine. I'd be happy if my DH cooked a roast and cleaned up as well! The rare occasions he does cook a roast I'm left to clear up the bomb site!

picklemepopcorn · 25/04/2017 19:11

Better for her than for your dog! Cooked chicken is very dangerous for dogs,,,

Lillithxxx · 25/04/2017 19:24

What is the problem here?

clarehhh · 25/04/2017 19:27

Too late now but I once caught food poisoning like this visited a friend who left lasagne ontop hob all night then we ate next day.Never take risks with chicken especially. However within a few hours you will know and leave him to deal with consequences!

Lovingit81 · 25/04/2017 19:29

I'd feel exactly the same as you OP. Chances are your dd will be fine but it was risky behaviour. Those saying they do this all the time are pretty skanky if you ask me. I'm not obsessive but I think your husband should have been more careful. Best of luck. X

Gillian1980 · 25/04/2017 19:30

I think you're overreacting.

It's not ideal and I'd not have done it but it's not the worst thing in the world and it's happened now.

I wouldn't be fuming with my dh for this. I'd just say "that probably wasn't a great idea. Can you not do it again unless it's been stored in the fridge" and moved on.

MrsMopper · 25/04/2017 19:34

I'd eat it but dh wouldn't and I wouldn't give it to ds. I have given myself food poisoning a fair few times so I know where I'm coming from.

Liska · 25/04/2017 19:41

Lweji if you keep calling the OP's chicken dry her DH will think you're insulting his cooking - and I suspect that as it's already been carved, that nice skin isn't sealing it quite so well anymore. A kitchen is not a lab.

Lweji · 25/04/2017 19:50

Grin

True that the skin will have been broken, but roast chicken meat (and any roast meat) will dry pretty quickly if left exposed.

It will depend on whether they used a clean knife for carving, or knives they used for other things.

We can't take food into labs, so, no a kitchen is not the same thing. :)

kimann · 25/04/2017 19:58

Confused why wouldn't she be fine OP? It was cooked chicken wasn't it? Im confused.

kateandme · 25/04/2017 20:01

people kept meats In pantries before fridges.dont fret if you cooked it through.its not ideal but its not an emergency panic.
why start a pissing game with dh,instead just "hun, can we keep it in firge it not ideal to give leftovers out that haven't been in fridge, safe than sorry yeh"

Lovelymess · 25/04/2017 20:02

I wouldn't eat it and deffo wouldn't feed it to my Dc Shock I can't believe believe anyone would! YANBU!

Winemamma · 25/04/2017 20:18

Yuk I wouldn't be happy about my DH doing that

Unicorndreamer · 25/04/2017 20:23

Fucking hell man calm down she will be fine .......

Elianna · 25/04/2017 20:27

My DH found a chicken sandwich in the car that had been there for 2 days, so he thought "Why let a good sandwich go to waste?"Hmm He decided to eat itConfused, good news is he's still alive.

Astro55 · 25/04/2017 20:35

Lweji

Please make sure you tell your friends and family about your hygiene practices -

At least give them the final choice to risk it or not

kiloh · 25/04/2017 20:45

Similar story but it was my father in law that dished up chicken to my brother in law ...he had a date later that night, a date where we had to rescue him with a bucket, and ring 111, he spent the night sat on our toilet with a sick bucket, he thought he was going to die! 🤢 See how they are after 10hrs fingers crossed they'll be alright!

MedSchoolRat · 25/04/2017 20:58

Lweji is right in this context.
I work in a place where we make jokes about Cat3 procedures if one of our DC has a tummy bug.
If the chicken was cooked properly & decent kitchen hygiene procedures observed, then the campy-STEC-salmonella are all dead. They can't magic back into life.

I know a lot about weird & unexpected ways to get STEC infection.. Undercooked is a recurring risk yes... well-cooked but neglected for a few hours on the counter, no.

BlowMeDownWithAFeatherMissis · 25/04/2017 21:02

YNBU. I am with you OP. This is a classic source of food poisoning - cooked meat left overnight at room temperature and then eaten. No way would I eat it - can't believe so many people do this! I put left over chicken in the fridge and then eat it cold or heat it up thoroughly.

Darbs76 · 25/04/2017 21:08

You're completely over reacting, it's not going to kill her

Astro55 · 25/04/2017 21:09

One in ten people have food poisoning each year in the U.K. That 5.5 million people

And it's in the increase

It's your call really

cheval · 25/04/2017 21:16

Have done far worse to myself and kids. They are now strapping six footers and I'm an ancient old bird that still has life in her. Yes, we have to be cautious with food, but old fashioned good sense kept us alive long before food police told us what to do. It will be fine.

cheval · 25/04/2017 21:18

Oh and yesterday ate rice dish that I heated up for fourth time. Only fed it to myself. Did wonder if was wise. But all fine today.

Lweji · 25/04/2017 21:18

Please make sure you tell your friends and family about your hygiene practices

I do. I told my BIL not to wash chicken meat. Grin
