Apparently under twenty fives have been registering to vote in high numbers, assuming because lots of Tory policies have hit this age group negatively. AIBU to feel optimistic that they will turn out to vote and possibly prove the poll predictions wrong?

Any under 25's here who have registered with this intention?

Oh good grief!

Oh come on, its been at least 2 years since we got into an argument, you know I didn't mean it personally, just using you as an example.Flowers

SuburbanRhonda · 25/04/2017 19:31

Any UK links, spread, since we're talking about the UK?

Dawndonnaagain · 25/04/2017 19:35

justanother Has it been that long? Wink

Iwishiwasstill19 · 25/04/2017 19:38

The media isn't biased to the right???? Oh my days.

Time to leave the thread before I explode 😩😩😩😩

BrexshitMeansBrexshit · 25/04/2017 19:39

SpreadYourHappiness: Gen Z (those born mid 90s - early 2000s) are the most conservative generation since the Second World War, so I wouldn't be hoping for under 25s to come out and not vote Tory.
re the links you provided...
You're using American sources that describe American Generation Z as 'conservative' - please note the small 'c' - to prove that British youth are going to vote Tory?
I don't think that stands up to scrutiny, does it? Grin

Peregrina · 25/04/2017 19:43

This "right wing press" meme needs to die,

she did no such thing [call Remainers saboteurs] - it was the front page of a red-top paper (which I will not mention) implied that they were quoting her exact words.

So which is it? I will mention the paper, it was the Daily Mail, of 'Enemies of the People' fame about our judiciary, or going back further, 'Hurrah for the Blackshirts.'

deedeegee · 25/04/2017 19:47

Everyone who qualifies should register and vote. People die for the right in other countries and women here, have died for our right! It's our moral obligation to vote! Rant over!
If we lived in Australia it is our legal obligation to vote- that would mean we wouldn't have a Brexit on 27% of the vote, as so many people didn't bother!
Anyhow all we can do is tell people to register and to vote...

user1471448556 · 25/04/2017 20:03

Despite owning my own business, I could not vote for the so-called 'business-minded' Tories due to their rush towards a hard Brexit, along with their determination to continue to under-fund and undermine our NHS and schools. The deficit has increased substantially under their watch, despite what they would have you believe about our financial situation being all Labour's fault. And if the proliferation of food banks and the increase in homeless people on our streets is what they mean by 'Big society' ... it's not a view of society I care for. So for me, it really has to be anybody but the Tories ... and in my constituency, that'll be Lib Dems. Let's hope young people do actually make the effort and turn out this time, because the Tories certainly don't make an effort to support youngsters ... they tend to care more about the pensioners, as they're the ones who always turn out to vote.

ilovvechoc You don’t have to look very hard to see media bias. The hugely influential Daily Mail (the most read British newspaper) is owned by non-dom (for tax purposes) Lord Rothermere and edited by Paul Dacre, a populist conservative who is unabashed about stamping his views on the newspaper. If look at the Daily Mail (six days of the week) and then at the Sunday Mail, which has a different editor, Geordie Greig, you’ll see editorial bias in action. It’s rather extraordinary. Both editors are conservative but Greig is much less authoritarian populist than Dacre. He was pro remain. No doubt Greig will support May but you’ll see a different approach on stories such as immigration, NHS. The Daily Mail is published six times more often than the Mail on Sunday, including the days running up to the elections, so hugely influencial.

The other big media influence is the Sun – owned by non-dom Australian populist conservative Rupert Murdoch, whose empire includes Trump supporting Fox News. Murdoch chooses the political direction of this news media, which is why politicians fawn to him. You may not remember the Sun headline It’s the Sun Wot Won it after the Tory win in 1992 but people who work in media are fully aware of the power of media to influence politics. As media barons tend to be wealthy conservatives the right wing bias isn’t really surprising.

ilovechoc1987 · 25/04/2017 20:08

The media is definitely left wing that is why so many independent media companies and journalists are becoming popular, because they are determined for people to know the truth about subjects like Syria, Russia and the government and how they fund terrorist organisations etc.

Peregrina · 25/04/2017 20:10

The media is definitely left wing

Pull the other one please.

ilovechoc1987 · 25/04/2017 20:12

What planet are you living on to think the media is right wing? 😂

BrexshitMeansBrexshit · 25/04/2017 20:14

ilovechoc - you are quite brilliant at making assertions with not a shred of evidence to back up your claims, eg (to paraphrase): Brexit is fab, Corbyn is shit, press is left wing...
How about a few examples, or a decent argument to back up those statements?

53rdWay · 25/04/2017 20:17

that is why so many independent media companies and journalists are becoming popular, because they are determined for people to know the truth about subjects like Syria, Russia and the government

'Independent' journalists. Uh-huh. Not at all funded by Russia Today, ohhhhhh no...

Dawndonnaagain · 25/04/2017 20:19

Daily Express. Daily Mail. The Sun. The Times. The Telegraph.

What planet are you living on to think the media is right wing? 😂
Earth, unlike you.

Shadowboy · 25/04/2017 20:26

Sadly I think a conservative win will happen. I won't be voting for them but I'm not sure who to vote for- probably labour or greens. I don't like what the conservatives stand for.

notusualmnname · 25/04/2017 20:34

I really hope the tide is turning and we can all tactically vote the Cons out before they can cause any more chaos.

See this tactical voting guide by constituency if you are unsure how best to vote to get them out.

Sarasue1967 · 25/04/2017 20:36

Unfortunately labour have no credibility with any age group, 25 or otherwise. Until that changes there will be no turn of the tide.

We need rid of Corbyn and Abbot. They have ruined my Labour Party

SusieOwl4 · 25/04/2017 20:36

Personally I think there are lot of floating voters including remainers who would have voted conservative. Personally although I have voted labour on occasions In the past I could never vote for labour with Corbyn at the helm. Also I am know resolved to the fact that brexit will happen and I now just want to get on with it. I just wonder how the labour voters who did vote for brexit are going to feel about the labour plan confirmed today? How much will the eu charge us to stay in the single market? And how will labour find the money to support the uncontrolled immigration in the future? Don't get me wrong I don't think brexit is the right thing but surely he is contradicting a lot of his own voters ? With regards to younger voters I guess they have a clean slate and are not tainted by the past and I am guessing quite a view will vote labour as they see their future more entwined within Europe.

OCSockOrphanage · 25/04/2017 20:50

Blimey MummyMeister, so much sense and realism. I thought hard nosed reality had missed M\N completely!

engineersthumb · 25/04/2017 21:09

A coalition is our best hope. I sadly can't vote labour with Corbyn at the helm. Clegg was a far better politician than Tim Farron but anything is better than May claiming a mandate! Also we should darn well get a refund on the proposed deal. Tusk has said that he believes a50 is reversible so there is no reason not to low the British people to have a final say based on the full details.

I will vote Lib Democrats as a tactical vote in a currently conservative area. I would love to say that Labour could currently win but they are too divided and their message is not coming through in the media.

The best outcome will be a narrow Tory win, losing the current health Secretary along with others in prominent seats. The tories can still sort their mess of a Brexit but they won't have the majority to push through their current discriminatory, appalling health and education policies and they'll hopefully get the message that the way they are treating the majority of society is not acceptable.

And for this to happen 18-25 year olds need to vote in their masses.

Can anyone with a Glastonbury ticket make sure they vote before they set off!!!!!!!
