AIBU?

To say she has brought this on herself?

Dd is 13. A couple of months ago at great expense I let her have the bottom half of her hair bleached blonde. It looked lovely.

Last week she phoned me from her friend's and said she was putting a wash out green dye on it. I told her not to as it would stain the blonde.

She did it anyway. She has spent the last week washing it with dandruff shampoo, baby shampoo, washing up liquid and today as a last try we did a vitamin c powder twice.

Somewhat predictably she still has bright green hair.

She goes back to school tomorrow. They are VERY strict. Natural hair colours only. She will likely be sent home. She is now (at nearly ten pm) having a screaming fit about it. I've told her that if they send her home I'll be marching her straight to the hairdressers to get it cut short. This is the worst thing that's ever happened to her apparently.

I'm leaving dh to deal with her. As far as I'm concerned this is her problem to sort out, I told her not to do it and told her it wouldn't wash out.

AIBU?

And does anyone have any suggestions, other than bleach which I'm trying to avoid?

I can't believe she spent the last week washing it with dandruff shampoo, baby shampoo, washing up liquid and then did a vitamin c powder twice.

I mean rather than popping to the shop for a semi-permanent colour Confused

If he hairs long enough there's a way if putting a donut in that will hide the ends.
Basically put hair in bobble, put donut on the ponytail and pull it far down the ponytail then twist it around itself so hopefully the green is hidden.
YouTube for a better explanation!
Dd did the same with wash in wash out pink dye over sun in ends. A good hairdressers sorted it though but it had to be stripped and redyed, worth it though as they did a great job of getting it to look natural again 🙂

She'll just have to go to school tomorrow and deal with the consequences, nothing else you can do really.

However I wouldn't put her through actually having it cut short, can't the hairdresser do something with it? Dye it darker, cover it somehow.

I would put a temporary mid brown dye on it tomorrow

I get that she was having fun, and I currently have magenta hair myself, but she went against my express wishes and has to face the consequences. Which are either punishment at school or having a hair cut, or dying back to brown.

I wouldnt cut it. I'd hide it in a bun or whatever then buy some brown dye tomorrow.

I don't know if the hair dye removers always work. I'd be inclined to chop rather than re-colour as it won't do much for the condition of it.

There is no chance in hell I'm paying for a hairdresser to sort it out.

A call to the school in advance might be wise.

Tomato ketchup is the best thing for getting green out of hair. Slather some on and sleep over night then wash it out in the morning. Should definitely take some of it away!

Lots of 13 year olds have this - better to spend the money than them doing a crap job at home - but then again!!

Why didn't you dye it in the week or ring the hairdresser for advise?

This. What possessed you to agree to that??

What about one of those dry shampoo sprays? I know the blonde one actually sprays the hair with a yellowy blonde colour, if the darker one does the same, you could spray her bun with it to tone it brown?

Id be raging too OP. Bloody teens!

Re the £80, we were quoted £40 and then they stung us for extra for the toner and straightening. After three hours in the hairdressers I didn't have the strength or will to argue about it, and I was pretty mortified at the cost.

Do you have a copy of Anne of Green Gables in the house?

Hmm. I think it was so predictable you are being unreasonable to be honest. Letting a 13 year old dip dye hair Shock. Sicky tomorrow and emergency hairdresser.

I am surprised school tolerated the dip dye tbh. Dd's wouldn't have.

Oh dear, I think you'll only get it out with a good haircut. I think it's a right of passag to ruin our hair at least once when we're young. I can remember getting my hair relaxed straight once only for it to start falling out!

She's 13, experimenting with hair colours & going against mum's wishes is something I did at that age, she knows full well she's fucked up and knows full well you were right (which is what the tantrum is really about) she doesn't need a 'I told you so' she needs a cuddle and someone to pick up the pieces.

She can pay you back half the money too now that she's buggered it up.

They are allowed hair dye but only if it's 'natural' colours.

Haha I do have AoGG. I might make her read it. I'd forgotten that bit!

Some of you are acting as if having short(ish) hair would be the worst thing in the world and that no-one should have such torture inflicted upon them. Why do so many girls and women value long hair? I just don't get it.

If she has to have it cut, she has to have it cut.
A) It might really suit her.
B) It'll grow back anyway.

If it's only the bottom part of bra length hair it is easily hideable with quite a few hairstyles including the bun ring suggested above.
