To think that some left-wing supporters are just so NASTY

cathf · 22/04/2017 14:22

This is based on posts I have read on here and a couple of very vocal left-wing friends I have on facebook.
I have truly never read a Conservative supporter personally attacking Labour in the same way.
I find it astonishing and if I am honest, a bit childish.
Recent examples include a website pulling Teresa May's living room apart and costing out every single thing in it, to a chorus of comments along the lines of how can she sleep at night when children are hungry and she has a £25 candle.
Every time the subject is raised on here, there is a long thread of hysterical comments about how nasty the Tories are. Yes, Tory supporters state their case and answer back, but they seem to be able to do it in a more restrained, mature manner than outraged Labour screamers.
There seems to be a lot of personal bile aimed at Teresa May, which I am at a loss to understand - just what has she done that is so terrible?
She is pushing through Brexit, but that was what the country voted for. Is she supposed to go against the country's wishes?
All of Labour's policies look very lovely, but none have any substance at all. My friend recently stated on Facebook she was supporting Jeremy Corbyn because he wanted peace not war. And? How is he going to implement that then? It reminds me of the 1980s T-shirts stating War is Stupid. Lots of nice words, but to implementation strategies.
It amazes me that supposedly intelligent people seem to be so brainwashed by this nonsense and think that flinging mud is an appopriate way to behave.
Is it just me?

Actually literally killing & maiming people = standing up for freedom

To be fair, I have no sympathy for the ira or indeed Corbyn, but this could be said for virtually any British military venture for the past umpteen years.

NoYouDontKnowItAll · 23/04/2017 20:33

so they will have to tottally fall apart and have to start again? which could take a hell of a long time. Meanwhile we are stuck with the Tories?

Well I'm hoping it doesn't come to them totally falling apart and I'm sure as I can be that Labour won't split again. With any luck (serious wishful thinking here) Momentum will fizzle out once Corbyn's gone as their core purpose will have become redundant

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 20:34

NoYouDontKnowItAll, I certainly hope so.

Poor Amy has been subjected to the pack mentality often displayed on here if you are pro Tory. All the more sad because the people who are doing it are clearly aware she is young - it's bullying - plain and simple

I think the fact Amy said she would vote Tory demonstrates just how much damage Corbyn has done to the Labour party. She said on an FWR thread she would vote Labour but for Corbyn.

From what I know of Amy her posts on FWR have been generally very liberal and left leaning. She is young and idealistic.

She struck me as being from the much maligned champagne socialist class. Her father is a QC, her mother is a dentist and she is at a private school.

In this class there were people who kept faith with the Labour party pre- Blair (I was one of them, most of my friends are). It was a combination of guilt and thinking it was the right thing to do.

Foot attracted the hard left, the poor, some but by no means all, of the traditional working class and at the other extreme people on the left who could afford to vote Labour. Blair reeled in the middle ground. Corbyn can't attract the middle ground nor the champagne socialists either.

NoYouDontKnowItAll · 23/04/2017 20:42

Momentum is this privately funded organisation that was formed to 'support' Corbyn

Now that McCluskey's been re-elected as Unite leader that recording is always on my mind where the guy from Momentum was talking about them getting affiliated. If that happens I'm leaving Unite as no way am I paying to support Momentum in any way

When the 2016 Labour leadership contest took place loads of Momentum and Corbyn supporters signed up to Unite as a way to vote for him and that pissed me off, it's not the purpose of a union and it sabotaged the fairness of the vote for genuine members. I'm not even anti Corbyn I voted for him in 2015 and I'm anti-Trident and republican like he is but Momentum and their horrible pack mentality made me change my mind

Justanotherlurker · 23/04/2017 20:50

Except it has discomfiting shades of Militant Tendency

It has been obvious it was militant from the start, we have had the Tory infiltrator, fake polls narrative a la trump become normal rhetoric, and the ironic own goal where earlier this week they published an article for all members to lay a bet at the bookmakers for JC to win the GE so it would force the the media to report favourably, whilst on the other hand complaining about the BBC, Guardian and in some instances the cess pit that is buzzfeed "fake news"

We can have a centre left party that can accept some of the things the Tories do are good whilst wanting small changes.

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 20:52

I wish I could like some of these posts, all my facebook friends seem to think the sun shines out Corbyns ass!!! nothing you can say or do is right!

HelenaDove · 23/04/2017 20:54

Weirdly most of the ppl on my fb feed (post 2011 school reunion) seem to like the Tories.

Most of these are the same ones who bullied me at school.

BigGrannyPants · 23/04/2017 21:00

I have never debated with a Tory voter who has given me good reasons or facts that make voting Tory a good decision. I am I suppose left wing, I have always voted SNP. I have plenty bad things to say about the Tory party but never the individual voters. I passionately and completely disagree with them but have never resorted to slanging matches etc...

NotJustAWife · 23/04/2017 21:01

YANBU. I get pretty annoyed with all the Tory bashing on here.

BigGrannyPants · 23/04/2017 21:01

I should add, I have been called plenty names by those who don't vote SNP... not necessarily all Tory voters but mostly

mummabearfoyrbabybears · 23/04/2017 21:09

Yes lots of threads 'are Tory voters stupid' etc. It's like the indyref. All the yes voters were loud, bolshy and rude. But we still got the 'No' vote Smile

mirime · 23/04/2017 21:13

^I sincerely hope that Labour are decimated in this election, and that JC loses his seat as well.

It (the Labour Party in its current form) needs to completely fall apart in spectacular fashion for it to be rebuilt properly in my opinion.^

And if they're decimated and the Tories get a huge majority what sort of opposition will we have for the next 5 (10?) years? With most of the media on the right and little opposition in parliament what damage will the Tories do?

If that happens I can honestly see a future where there will be no NHS, except maybe emergency services for the poorest, and little in the way of a benefits system.

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 21:15

So what are we to do mirime??? vote for some tosspot that has no clue about anything? one that supports terrorists?? or vote for the other evil??? we are screwed either way!

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 21:17

Corbyn could effectivley end up bankrupting the country the way he is talking. Oh and then you have Momentum on top!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 23/04/2017 21:26

I think we really have start accepting that Labour have to seriously think about splitting (obviously after the election). Last week I thought well there is one silver lining with the GE being called as no doubt we shall have a larger Tory majority Corbyn will be gone but now I don't believe that will happen

Corbyn isn't going anywhere or if he does step aside he will be replaced by a Corbynoid as for many party members it's better to have a Labour Party that stays true to some old ideology that has never served the party well than move more to the centre and has a chance of being in power

It's fucking idiotic reasoning

mirime · 23/04/2017 21:28

I don't know muckypup. I'm not happy with the Corbyn situation, but the thought of another 10 or 15 years of Conservative government with maybe five plus years of no effective opposition is frightening. There needs to be a strong opposition, and I'd be saying this if their roles were reversed.

Looking at the stats from the last GE there's not much point me voting anything other than Labour as they were in second behind the Conservatives, though as far as I can see they have little chance of taking the constituency so my vote is somewhat meaningless.

I'd consider voting Plaid or Lib Dem but again it wouldn't mean much and I'd rather Labour didn't get too much of a kicking.

I am hoping the Lib Dems can make a bit of a comeback, I thought they got unfairly punished last time. As can be seen now, they did restrain the Tories somewhat, for example pushing for new schemes to be piloted when the Tories just wanted to roll them out regardless.

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 21:29

As someone else has said they split last time and it diddnt work.because I thought like you.

I thought once Corbyn loses the election he would leave, but no that is not going to work as said online everyone else will get the blame apart from corbyn.

Justanotherlurker · 23/04/2017 21:31

Most of these are the same ones who bullied me at school.

I think the irony here is that you are trying to broad brush those who don't vote how you like and still include the word most, do those that bullied you get a free pass, do you even know how all those that bullied you (and I am sorry btw) voted?

I have never debated with a Tory voter who has given me good reasons or facts that make voting Tory a good decision..

And you can't see the flip side of this? Do you think your mindset is superior? No middle ground?

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 21:33

mirime, Lib dems got hammered because they jumped into bed with the Tories and then done feck all, we still got hit hard, thats why they havent been forgiven, although I am sure they will get higher votes this election as some people will not want to vote for either Labour or conners.

Livelovebehappy · 23/04/2017 21:38

Guess it will depend though on how great the loss is on the Labour side as to whether Corbyn will leave. If the Tories absolutely anialate Labour in the GE, surely Corbyn's position will have become untenable, and the only right thing for him to do would be to step down of his own accord? He just wouldn't be able to justify remaining leader of the Labour Party. I'm Tory, but feel there should always be another party equally able to pull in the votes, just to keep the party in charge on their toes.

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 21:40

Livelovebehappy thats what we were hoping for, however after reading the rags they reckon he wont leave and that wot surprise me as he has a big fat feckin head!!! thinks hes the best thing since sliced bread!!! it will be everyone elses fault for not voting for him!!

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 21:41

And unfortunately you have all the people that the Tories have hit that will vote for him but then again I suppose that could be balanced by the Brexiteers.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 23/04/2017 21:45

I am a Labour Party member. Did not vote for Corbyn. Would have a Blairite back in a heart beat.

Will vote whichever of Conservative or Lib Dem has most chance of taking the seat from the SNP.

BeWaterMyFriend · 23/04/2017 21:47

It's a shame you can't just vote for the make-up of Parliament you'd like to see, isn't it?! Grin

I canvassed for the 2015 election and a surprising amount of people said they would like a Tory/Lib Dem coalition again. But our FPTP system is the bluntest of tools for picking how you'd like the country to be governed...
