To think that some left-wing supporters are just so NASTY

cathf · 22/04/2017 14:22

This is based on posts I have read on here and a couple of very vocal left-wing friends I have on facebook.
I have truly never read a Conservative supporter personally attacking Labour in the same way.
I find it astonishing and if I am honest, a bit childish.
Recent examples include a website pulling Teresa May's living room apart and costing out every single thing in it, to a chorus of comments along the lines of how can she sleep at night when children are hungry and she has a £25 candle.
Every time the subject is raised on here, there is a long thread of hysterical comments about how nasty the Tories are. Yes, Tory supporters state their case and answer back, but they seem to be able to do it in a more restrained, mature manner than outraged Labour screamers.
There seems to be a lot of personal bile aimed at Teresa May, which I am at a loss to understand - just what has she done that is so terrible?
She is pushing through Brexit, but that was what the country voted for. Is she supposed to go against the country's wishes?
All of Labour's policies look very lovely, but none have any substance at all. My friend recently stated on Facebook she was supporting Jeremy Corbyn because he wanted peace not war. And? How is he going to implement that then? It reminds me of the 1980s T-shirts stating War is Stupid. Lots of nice words, but to implementation strategies.
It amazes me that supposedly intelligent people seem to be so brainwashed by this nonsense and think that flinging mud is an appopriate way to behave.
Is it just me?

I like Chuka, Liz Kendall for leader at the mo (maybe Dan Jarvis in a few years).

Not keen on Keir Starmer or Yvette Cooper for leader, but rate them as cabinet/shadow cabinet definitely.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 23/04/2017 19:41

I suppose I'm a bit old school and am dubious that Chuka or Dan are actually Labour at all! But they certainly are more statesmanlike than any current offering and would garner a few centrist voters, I'm sure.

Lostmysignal · 23/04/2017 19:42

I disagree in so far as of is just far left supporters. There are people on all sides like this. It's people. You get that sort of personality in every walk of life. I've noticed conservatives doing it on every Corbyn post I read. Every one of them. I would presume you only see far left comments for the same reason? :)

CopperRose · 23/04/2017 19:50

Beans, I think for Glorious Leader position, it doesn't really matter so long as they're Leader-like which Corbyn & Miliband aren't/weren't.

Justanotherlurker · 23/04/2017 19:50

You're fine with the tories killing the disabled and vulnerable with cuts but the Irish can't stand up for their freedom?

Poe's law again I see

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 23/04/2017 19:54

True Copper but I liked Miliband...

I met him at Lord's. He was taking his (anxious looking ) son for a training camp. He was being so lovely with him and was very at ease talking to parents (he shook my hand which was nice) , most of whom, given the locale and type of parent, most probably weren't supporters! He was very different from the way the media portrayed him, and I felt sorry for him he didn't eat anything whilst there, though

I thought the way some parts of the media treated him was deplorable.

I am in awe of the depth of political knowledge of some MNers. I can never have any of these conversations with anyone I actually know!

AllThePrettySeahorses · 23/04/2017 19:55

Just to answer the original OP - damn right they can be!

Just look at any Labour MP's facebook or Twitter page and see the vile abuse from people who have 'I'm with Corbyn' on their profile pictures and/or accuse them of betraying the Dear Leader. I wished one high-profile MP the best of luck the other day and was promptly piled on. I've also been sent the most disgusting anti-semitic filth on Twitter 'I'm with Corbyn'-ers for disagreeing that Ruth Smeeth lied about the threats she receives.

Think back to the 2016 leadership elections too - I don't know if anyone saw the way both Owen Smith and Angela Eagle were treated. Momentum members also indulge in nasty little plots to deselect MPs.

I always thought us on the left were the nice ones. Clearly not.

NoYouDontKnowItAll · 23/04/2017 19:55

As you know Chuka and Dan Jarvis have both previously ruled themselves out though, shame as either of those would likely be excellent especially at PMQs

hottotrotsky · 23/04/2017 19:55

"NASTY" equals pointing out May's loaded hence represents loaded people's interests? Oh dear. Mill bank really must try harder in provoking anti Labour debate. Inept.

Nasty is privatising the NHS by stealth, impoverishing vast swathes of the population and ruining the country. New Labour was a party to all this but JC wants to make a break. I feel Labour are tainted though as is he by remaining a member throughout the worst of the Blair era.

thebakerwithboobs · 23/04/2017 19:57

I'd vote for Chuka but that's because he's about as Labour as Tony Blair.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 23/04/2017 19:57

noyou

I reckon chuka is biding his time and waiting for 2022

HelenaDove · 23/04/2017 19:59

Im left wing but am not keen on Momentum.

And Seahorses have you read all of the thread.

CopperRose · 23/04/2017 20:03

See, I like Ed Miliband too - he always comes across as really quite a lovely person, and very genuine.

I just couldn't ever get my head round him as a potential PM.

NoYouDontKnowItAll · 23/04/2017 20:05

Rufus you could be right, he did say at the time that he wasn't saying never

I don't like Momentum either, they're too much like Militant and have actively arranged for their members to try and hijack the NEC and Unite ime. Last time it was the NEC elections I got swamped on Twitter by Momentum members listing me all their candidates and telling me I had to vote for them wtf Hmm

NoLotteryWinYet · 23/04/2017 20:07

Or even just look at what happened to McCluskey's rival Coyne at unite. Bloody nasty.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 23/04/2017 20:08

Cant be arsed to google

Whats momentum? Is it that lets stop brexit mish mash of politicians thing?

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 20:11

A vote for Corbyn is a vote for Momentum, I also found it highly odd how many Tories joined the Labour party to vote for Corbyn and sat back rubbing their hand with glee.

Labour should split now and form a decent party so there is some hope for the next election, otherwise we are stuck with the Tories for a long long time.

NoYouDontKnowItAll · 23/04/2017 20:15

Labour should split now and form a decent party so there is some hope for the next election, otherwise we are stuck with the Tories for a long long time

History tells us that doesn't work though, they've split in the past and the new party was the SDP who later joined with the Liberals and became the Lib Dems. Tells you all you need to know

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 23/04/2017 20:16

How do you work that out mucky

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 20:17

NoYouDontKnowItAll, so they will have to tottally fall apart and have to start again? which could take a hell of a long time. Meanwhile we are stuck with the Tories?

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 20:18

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer, unless they kick corbyn to the ground now and get someone decent to the leader asap.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 23/04/2017 20:19

Fuckit

Im going to have to google arent i

I waste so much time on here and i have so many books to read

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 20:20

Sorry RufusTheRenegadeReindeer, you are best googling Momentum, they are the hard left, they are a bit like a virus that have infected Labour.

ExplodedCloud · 23/04/2017 20:26

Momentum is this privately funded organisation that was formed to 'support' Corbyn. Except it has discomfiting shades of Militant Tendency and I personally am a bit Hmm about it all.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 23/04/2017 20:27

Oooh yes i see what you mean mucky

Although i cant see what they actually stand for...just seems to be a load of waffle...not that i have looked very long
