To think that some left-wing supporters are just so NASTY

cathf · 22/04/2017 14:22

This is based on posts I have read on here and a couple of very vocal left-wing friends I have on facebook.
I have truly never read a Conservative supporter personally attacking Labour in the same way.
I find it astonishing and if I am honest, a bit childish.
Recent examples include a website pulling Teresa May's living room apart and costing out every single thing in it, to a chorus of comments along the lines of how can she sleep at night when children are hungry and she has a £25 candle.
Every time the subject is raised on here, there is a long thread of hysterical comments about how nasty the Tories are. Yes, Tory supporters state their case and answer back, but they seem to be able to do it in a more restrained, mature manner than outraged Labour screamers.
There seems to be a lot of personal bile aimed at Teresa May, which I am at a loss to understand - just what has she done that is so terrible?
She is pushing through Brexit, but that was what the country voted for. Is she supposed to go against the country's wishes?
All of Labour's policies look very lovely, but none have any substance at all. My friend recently stated on Facebook she was supporting Jeremy Corbyn because he wanted peace not war. And? How is he going to implement that then? It reminds me of the 1980s T-shirts stating War is Stupid. Lots of nice words, but to implementation strategies.
It amazes me that supposedly intelligent people seem to be so brainwashed by this nonsense and think that flinging mud is an appopriate way to behave.
Is it just me?

I wont bunfight btw, HQ, but that was overtly racist.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/04/2017 18:28

The "immigrants having babies" line didn't come across well, but is it unreasonable for people to want to discuss it or to be concerned about the impact?

I think part of the reason UKIP flourished and we've ended up with Brexit is because people have been told they're not allowed to discuss any concerns they have around immigration.

JustAKitten · 23/04/2017 18:29

It's fine to discuss it, but it did come across as quite racist.

Pinkandwhiteblossoms · 23/04/2017 18:32

I think the immigrants and babies line was intended along the lines of the pressures on public services.

this BBC article is from almost ten years ago, I guess the problem hasn't improved after a double dip recession!

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 18:35

I dont like Corbyn and I dont like May, I have always been a Labour voter, but I think I will be voting either Lib Dem or Green, Corbyn is a terrorist supporter. He has lots of plans but no money to support them.

JustAKitten · 23/04/2017 18:37

"Terrorist supporter" because he understands the history of the Irish

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/04/2017 18:39

I took it more as questioning the veracity of the statements about immigrants contributing more to the economy tbh - i do accept it could be construed the other way though.

I think it would be more productive to discuss it than shout people down for expressing a concern about how they perceive immigration to have impacted their communities though; that's a habit that we got in to as a country and it meant the Brexit debates were dreadful. So it was often stated that "immigrants contribute more..." but if someone questioned back with a concern like that poster did, the response was always "racist" rather than "here's how the figures were derived, they factored in x y and z including higher birth rate" or "actually, we only looked at the financial contribution per adult but didn't consider the impact of children fully"

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 18:39

He is s terrorist supporter because his values had people bombing Britain, anyone remeber the Ira bombing in Manchester? and how many of our innocent people and troops were killed? he seems to have form for supporting Terrorists, he would have a conversation with one but would not share a stage with David Cameron?

JustAKitten · 23/04/2017 18:41

Because the British didn't terrorise most of the world Hmm

BertrandRussell · 23/04/2017 18:42

"He is s terrorist supporter because his values had people bombing Britain,"

I think that might be slanderous.......

Ask the parents of Tim Parry what they thought of the Ira.

JustAKitten · 23/04/2017 18:43

Ask my great grandparents who were shot at by the Black and Tans what they thought of the British.

frumpet · 23/04/2017 18:43

Chatting to a man the other day who pays more in tax a month than I earn a month . We both work hard , actual hours per week, I do more . We are both on the same AD's .

I tend to try and vote for who I believe will do the most good for the most people in this country or county or town depending on the election and it isn't always the same party .

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 18:43

JustAKitten, why is it slanderous? I think you will find its the truth, Corbyn stood doing a minutes silence ofr those in the Ira that were killed!

Justanotherlurker · 23/04/2017 18:44

Yes. Unless you are a bigot.

Presuming every other point of view comes from bigotry is what is and has caused a lurch to the right, and it's not just here in the UK.
It's a paradoxical situation your in, as I will make a very heavy presumption that you will jump on anyone who says conversations have been limited because of crys of racism by claiming you have never seen it, yet here you are ...

There isn't an issue with immigrants having children, one issue is that some of the most adherent "net contributors" meme conveniently ignore simple facts that more people introduce more strains on resources, they also fail to ignore the fact that the "net contributors" stat is contested and is very difficult to establish, for every banker in london on £100K there are a number who work at the lower, bordering on illegal level.

The housing crisis didn't start in 2010 and was predicted all through the labour years, schooling has been an issue and even though JC has been proven to be talking shit over his overpopulated schools figure. The NHS should not be politicised, it has become such a sacred cow that any kind of reform is met with hysteria, this has been going on since I could vote almost every couple of years for 3 decades.

If you stopped reading the canary and stepped out your bubble you may show a bit more of that "empathy" that your soo proud to wear on your sleeve

JustAKitten · 23/04/2017 18:44

I'd stand too. Does that make me a terrorist?

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 23/04/2017 18:45

The post didnt make a reasonable comment or contribute to discussion but just moaned about immigrants having babies.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 23/04/2017 18:46

And how do you know where i live or that i live in a bubble? I live in a very multicultural city.

I dont read the canary.

More ignorant generalisation.

JustAKitten · 23/04/2017 18:47

I've done plenty. I'm also Irish and I'd suggest you research what the British did to us for hundreds of years.

The IRA are a result of the British

JustAKitten · 23/04/2017 18:49

The IRA exist to free Ireland from colonial occupation.

You're fine with the tories killing the disabled and vulnerable with cuts but the Irish can't stand up for their freedom?

JustAKitten · 23/04/2017 18:49

And before you try it, I don't condone bombing civilians

muckypup73 · 23/04/2017 18:50

Did I say I was happy about the Tories and their cuts?
