Aibu about this trend for young girls

I keep seeing teen girls about in my town wearing super short tight dresses (usually black), sometimes skirt and crop top with lots of flesh on show. The dresses are made out of material similar to leggings. The bit that gets me though is they wear it with trainers! Sports trainers!

It looks horrible in my opinion. Is this a trend? Where did it come from?

Maybe I'm getting old... I'm pretty sure my mum didn't get the trouser skirt combo I used to wear. Grin

It's just I don't get the "nice" dress paired with trainers. To me it's like wearing heels with jogging pants... not a good look.

Everything I own five pairs of wellies and one pair of high heels ..... Grin

EweAreHere · 22/04/2017 09:56

I would encourage the same for my DD when she's old enough to be going out and about with her friends. Would save her a lifetime of problems with joints and feet if she thinks super high heels are stupid.

usernumbernine · 22/04/2017 09:57

Someone on my facebook described young women out in high heels as if they were tottering about like a newborn calf.

At least nowadays the kids get a bit more choice. I love watching the combinations my 14 and 16 year olds come up with.

When I was young you wore what your parents bought you. And because we were on a Scottish island, you wore what your parents bought you FROM THE LITTLEWOODS' CATALOGUE... child abuse I tell you! Grin

(mind you a dress that short on a Scottish island - you'd get frostbite in places you really wouldn't want to! Grin

I think it looks fine.

I like the "i don't give a shit look" people should wear what they like

Garlicansapphire · 22/04/2017 10:02

I like it. Cooler than fake tan and hooker shoes. It's sport luxe (my neice is a fashion designer and designs these type of outfits).

In the 80s we often wore dresses with DMs which were clumpy on the feet. It was to offset the trying to be sexy thing in a cool way.

HoneyDragon · 22/04/2017 10:02

Giles except giant shoulder pads. We should still consign them to fashions worst mistake. Everything else, though, fine.

Gileswithachainsaw · 22/04/2017 10:03

Shoulder pads. I'd forgotten about them.

I grew up in the bart Simpson t shirt and cycling short with florescent stripe era Grin

TheFairyCaravan · 22/04/2017 10:10

I think it looks great.

I'd much rather see teens dressed as teens rather to them trying to look like they are in their thirties.

metalmum15 · 22/04/2017 10:15

Good to see there are still plenty of grungers who never grew up Wink

All fashion looks stupid when you really think about it. Also, there's nothing new under the sun.

Trills · 22/04/2017 10:18

I am SO HAPPY that teenagers who want to wear ridiculous tight outfits are doing so with trainers on their feet.

This video is only very slightly relevant but I'm posting it anyway

Alexandra87 · 22/04/2017 10:20

I think those type of dresses with the trainers look really nice. It's the sort of thing my much younger sister wears.i definitely would if only I had the figure to pull off the dress

Trills · 22/04/2017 10:20

I am in my 30s. What should I be wearing to "look like I am in my 30s"?

RJnomore1 · 22/04/2017 10:22

That videos brilliant

NoDramasPlease · 22/04/2017 10:25

Meh, fashion is very cyclical. In the 80's i wore mini skirts with hi-tops. But then those were the days of acid house parties and illegal raves, high heels just wouldn't have been conducive to bouncing around in a field all night. Still love my hi-tops, mini skirts not so much Grin.

sheepskinshrug · 22/04/2017 10:26

I like how the trainers tone down the look - make it less sexy.
I'm wearing a cashmere dress today with running trainers and omg I'm in my 40's Shock

Notso · 22/04/2017 10:26

I like it. If I wasn't a fat ass I'd wear it.
Also with my almost 17 year old it has the added benefit of letting me know her underlying plans
DD off out in dress and trainers = DD sticking to the rules, house party or safe but grungy bar,
DD off out in dress and fuck off heels = she's probably trying to get in sonewhere.

TheMildManneredMilitant · 22/04/2017 10:27

Anyone else now really wanting to go and buy a new dress and trainers? Thanks for the inspiration op!

metalmum15 · 22/04/2017 10:27

Trills Jeans, t-shirts and sensible shoes Wink

XiCi · 22/04/2017 10:29

Of course the dresses look cheap, they are cheap. The girls are 14 years old and will be buying cheap, throwaway fashion as most of us did. where did you shop at 14, Vivienne Westwood?

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 22/04/2017 10:30

Ahhhhh, leave them alone to wear what they like-there are far, far worse combinations.

KRG13 · 22/04/2017 10:31

Bloody hell get with it grandma
