To think she should have informed me her kids are unvaccinated?

I went to antenatal yoga with a lovely teacher, who then visited my house with her two children once my baby was born. I also attended her baby group several times with my DS, and her children were also present.

I've just found out that she's an anti-vaxxer, and I cannot stop thinking about the fact that she exposed my tiny baby to her unvaccinated kids, without my knowledge! AIBU to think she should have informed me before bringing her kids to my house, knowing my baby was too young to have been vaccinated yet?

And what about all the babies at the group - I get that it's her personal choice to not vaccinate (though I am vehemently against it) but as she is acting in a professional capacity surely she should be informing parents that her unvaccinated children will be there? I certainly would have thought twice about taking my DS before his vaccinations.

YABU. Are you expecting every stranger you pass in the street to broadcast the fact their child isn't vaccinated due to choice/medical necessity? You do realise that vaccinations don't always work so there is a small percentage of children walking around who have been vaccinated but they're not completely covered?

hottotrotsky · 20/04/2017 19:42

YABsoU. Or a shill. The ignorance on this topic is stunning. Vaccinations do not provide protection. If anything HER dc are at risk. And the vile abusive language used to describe this (apocryphal?) yoga teacher ("cunt" "twat" etc) is reflective of pro vaxxers' obtuse noxiousness. So there.

PurpleDaisies · 20/04/2017 19:44

Vaccinations do not provide protection.

Care to explain what you mean by this? I'd guess that the billions of people who don't catch diseases because they've been vaccinated against them would disagree with you.

HomityBabbityPie · 20/04/2017 19:52

Lol ok hot. Watched vaxxed, have we?

KayTee87 · 20/04/2017 19:54

If anything HER dc are at risk.

Yes, they are at risk - because they're not vaccinated!!!

InMemoryOfSleep · 20/04/2017 19:54

It never ceases to amaze me that people like Hot think they have done their 'research' by watching some shite on the internet. Show me something written by a reputable scientist, working with an accredited body, with testable results and we'll talk. Until then, I'm sorry but I will put you in the same box as Donald Trump and his supporters.

Given that your baby was too young to be vaccinated and she was visiting you at your house, it would've been courteous for her to let you know, so you had a choice.
However, your child will unknowingly be around unvaccinated children all the time I should think, so I guess you have to get used to it.

lifesjoys · 20/04/2017 20:18

Yanbu OP. Yoga twat might think that research on Google and sticking tumeric up her arse will protect her and her kids but she has no right to put your newborn at risk. Selfish, stupid, ignorant cunt

Love this! Grin

Applebite · 20/04/2017 20:21

Yep hot - the ignorance really lS stunning, isn't it?!!

Moussemoose · 20/04/2017 20:26

Vaccinations do not provide protection

I await your explanation of where smallpox went with interest.

specialsubject · 20/04/2017 20:32

Beat me to it with that!!

GreatFuckability · 20/04/2017 20:58

There are hundreds and thousands of people walking around without immunity to things. the more research is done into vaccinations the more it is becoming clear that many don't have anything like a life long effect. So, the fact her kids aren't vaccinated in the grand scheme of all the humans you will come into contact with, means nothing. You are not more at risk from her just because her children haven't had vaccinations, the people you are at risk from are ill people. whoever those people are, and that could literally be anyone you pass in the street.
My children aren't vaccinated and I don't think to share this information with everyone i come into contact with because it simply doesn't occur to me. And as my children have never had any of the illnesses vaccines cover, they've been a risk to anyone else.

GreatFuckability · 20/04/2017 21:06

place I know for sure my 10 and 12 year olds have never had rotavirus, because they've never had a vomiting bug. the only time the 10 year old has been sick was when she had a GA and the 12 year old has thrown up twice in his life from coughing.

I can promise you not ALL children have had it.

Moussemoose · 20/04/2017 21:09

GreatFuckability

Your children haven't been ill because my children are vaccinated.

donquixotedelamancha · 20/04/2017 21:11

"Until then, I'm sorry but I will put you in the same box as Donald Trump and his supporters."

I never, ever thought I'd say this, but that may be a little harsh on Donald Trump supporters. I'm not sure they are as detached from reality as the anti vaxxers.

I think there is potential for a very entertaining reality series finding out who's the craziest.

InMemoryOfSleep · 20/04/2017 21:14

@Moussemoose this times a thousand. I think the fact that it 'doesn't occur' to you to share that your children are unvaccinated says a lot @GreatFuckability; and as has already been discussed, yes I'm aware that my DS will come into contact with many non-vaccinated people, but as he's now had most of his vaccines (barring the MMR as he's not old enough yet) then this is less of an issue. Bringing your unvaccinated children to my house when he is only days old however is an issue.

So, OP, are you going to ask everyone your newborn meets for now on if they have been vaccinated?

InMemoryOfSleep · 20/04/2017 21:20

NO @RAGGED BECAUSE HE'S NOW VACCINATED. Please RTFT because you are about the 100th person to wrongly suggest this.

Lonelymummyof1 · 20/04/2017 21:24

So I am pro vaccination but in hospital wards if your take a newborn baby in who has not yet been vaccinated they actually can not share a room with a vaccinated child/baby only a baby who has not been vaccinated.

SteppingOnToes · 20/04/2017 21:26

There was an identical thread a couple of months ago!

ragged · 20/04/2017 21:34

So he's had his teenage meningitis & preschool jabs too? Wow, you really do nurse a grudge for a long time.

Atenco · 20/04/2017 21:46

As someone who lost my sibling to chickenpox at 20 days old because of an unvaccinated child, I'd be furious just like you

But people aren't vaccinating against chickenpox.
