AIBU with my friends?

I'm the first one in my social group to get pregnant. I talk to my friends on a daily basis through WhatsApp and see them all in person at least once a week.

As it's my first pregnancy, I'm very excited. I can't stop talking about it. I'm so lucky, so happy, so fortunate & so privileged. My baby feels so special, like I know my baby will do something incredible in this world - I can feel it!!

And yet, my friends have started to turn on me. They've become very jealous. They make snide remarks, they mimick me & give me side eye. I feel like my pregnancy is the butt of all the jokes.

I can't help that I've been so blessed and so fortunate to get pregnant out of my friends first. I went to college, uni, started a professional career first & got married first. I've just always been up step ahead - I can't help it!!

Would it be unreasonable to sit my friends down and ask them to stop being so negative? I want to ask them to support me better and help me out.

Oh ffs!!

What the fuck is going on here lately! I know it's the holidays in some places but I've never seen it this bad for total shite posted so often.

Wondermoomin · 20/04/2017 12:36

My real advice would be:
(1) at fajita Friday you say "I'm sorry I've been going on about my pregnancy so much lately. I'm just so excited and wanted you to share in that as well, but I can get a bit carried away sometimes! I'll try not to speak about it ALL the time... anyway - what's happening with you / your kitchen / your job..."
(2) join an NCT class to find a network of expectant mums near you. Try not to alienate them and be "that one" in your NCT group.

TiredMumToTwo · 20/04/2017 12:37

Now it's your husband's job to find you new friends - you're ace!!

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 20/04/2017 12:39

woohoo. I'm ahead of the person who is ahead in life. 28 with a 1yr old DD.
Now she really is something special. Like the OP, I also felt it during my pregnancy definitely wasn't wind
Managed to completely bypass her nappy on more than one occasion and piss all over me. I kid you not, the piss missed the nappy.
Now that's what I call gifted Grin

GaelicSiog · 20/04/2017 12:40

Genuinely curious. How would you like your friendship with this group to play out post baby? Will you be bringing the baby along to fajita Friday?

FrenchJunebug · 20/04/2017 12:45

Best thread ever!

PatsyMount · 20/04/2017 12:46

Fanjo-ita Friday!!!!! I'm in Grin

RuggerHug PMSL!!!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/04/2017 12:47

@PhyllisNights - apologies for misunderstanding your 'mother at home' comment - I would say, though, that time being you, away from being a mother (nights out etc) are actually very good for your mental health. You can be just as good a mum and still enjoy the odd night out with your friends! I'd say it's vital, to be honest.

Secondly, please take on board my point about the baby shower - you really don't have a right to a baby shower. Please don't hint for one at Fajita Friday, or delegate anyone to do one for you. You will really annoy people if you do that! It will look grabby and greedy.

DonkeyOaty · 20/04/2017 12:48

GUFFAW at you lot.

OP, well played, very well played

We're having Fajita Friday tomorrow night around my friends house. I'm going to mention the baby shower

I think mentioning the baby shower to your friends who are already sick of the subject is likely to turn Fajita Friday into Fuck Off Friday.

MrsT88 · 20/04/2017 12:56

Sorry added my post to a thread I've asked admin to remove Blush

Sanchezwasntdirty · 20/04/2017 12:56

Gaelic sounds like the baby will be hosting fajita Friday in future!

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 20/04/2017 12:57

On another note, don't get a breakfast bar. Ours just turned into a dumping ground before we got rid of it!

I want a new kitchen. What do we think of a sage colour?
I don't have the space for an island but I fear that it would just become a dumping ground if we did have one.
I also like the thought of wooden worktops. I want oak but they have to be oiled I believe? Any suggestions.....Grin

SparklyGlitterPants · 20/04/2017 12:57

I'll see you all a new kitchen and raise you a new build house. Granted it's a builders finish so no painting or flooring done.

However I was going to offer to host (not organise) ops' baby shower; we could even to a #fantabulous #amazeballs #gender reveal #party by letting the op pick out the wall colour. That #totallygorge glitter paint natch.

Seriously though, if this is genuine, op a wobble you must give your head. Repeatedly. Your pregnancy is the center of your world right now. Of course your friends are getting pissed off with you if you carry on even half as much as your posts imply.

They are not jealous just sick to the back teeth of you and your constant blathering. Any happiness they had for you has long been over ridden by impatience at your behaviour. Of course your baby is special. To you and your husband but thats it.

I agree with pp who recommend counselling for self awareness and also consider some for self esteem. It sounds like (if your are real) that by constantly boasting and talking yourself up that you may be trying to over compensate for feelings of inadequacy.

GinAndTunic · 20/04/2017 12:57

I love the idea of Fajita Friday! I shall drink your margaritas, OP.

Crapuccino · 20/04/2017 13:00

I declare Fridays to be officially Fajita Fridays on MN forever more, in honour of OP's compulsory babyshower and prodigal-child-to-be.

How do we get MNHQ to make a fajita emoticon?

Crapuccino · 20/04/2017 13:02

Here you go MNHQ. Like this one. Please. Ta. Etc.

My baby is destined to do something great

Does anything think that Donald Trump's mother said something similar?

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 20/04/2017 13:11

Crapuccino can we hold them in Maui?

steppemum · 20/04/2017 13:13

Baby Showers-

OP, these are a GIFT, not a RIGHT. They are organised by a friend as a SURPRISE. They are not remotely like hen nights.

if a pregnant woman has any hand in organising their own baby shower it is like standing up in public and saying:

I WANT GIFTS, GIVE ME BABY GIFTS, GIMME, GIMME, GIMME.

which is obviously not the done thing.
If no-one organises it without you, then you don't get one. Don't be a greedy cow. In UK, people don't do baby showers because they come round after the birth with w gift. It is either/or you don't get both.

(I personally thingk they are tacky and no-one should have one, but hey, I have taste Grin)

CaulkheadNorth · 20/04/2017 13:20

I'm beginning to wonder if this thread isn't someone at MNHQ 'aving a laff?

WyldChyld · 20/04/2017 13:21

Christ, OP, I wish we could visit you again in a few months when you have a completely average baby who pisses and shits everywhere and vomits all over your disappointingly not newly renovated and therefore not interesting kitchen.

Seriously, love, calm it. If you value your friendship in any way shape or form, shut up. No-one needs to know that much information about the inside of your uterus.

Yes, it's lovely that you're pregnant. Women have been getting pregnant for millions of years. You're not an invalid, you're not ill, you don't need to be wrapped in cotton wool. Put your big girl pants on and take a step back and think.
