*Trigger Warning* AIBU to not understand how this YouTuber isn't being investigated for child abuse?

So I actually found out about this channel via another large forum I post on. Essentially, a YouTube channel which is called DaddyOFive (it's reasonably large, around three quarters of a million subscribers) centres around a blog made by the father, with 5 children. The upshot of it is, people were angry about how the family, lead by the father; bully one of their children Cody, and pass it off as just 'good old fashioned parenting!'

At first until I checked out the videos I honestly thought it couldn't be that bad. I was horribly wrong. Some of the videos are entitled:
Dad burns Cody's Pokemon cards
Dad destroys son's DS
Dad forces son to throw away his toys
I'm sending Cody to military school

In their most recent video, because Cody had been bad (smeared poop on the walls; a recognised sign of abuse and distress), they took all the other kids to DisneyLand.

These videos are horrific, and despite them being located in the US, I really feel like CPS should be investigating and YouTube should shut the channel down for child abuse.

If you can bear to watch the videos, the guy's name is DaddyOFive, and I'd urge you to take a few minutes and report their videos for child abuse. I really don't understand how in this day and age, this kind of thing isn't investigated more quickly. The child is sobbing, and regularly in horrendous distress at the bullying at the hands of his parents and siblings, so these videos could trigger people; that's why I haven't directly linked them and why I've placed a warning on the top of my post.

There are a few of us who have posted our experiences of child abuse on this thread after being triggered and I'm glad the trigger warning was there. I'm strong enough now to be able to empathise with children in these situations because I've had/am still having professional help for it but I can talk about it and remain relatively calm and in control of myself. If there was no trigger warning on this and I clicked through to the videos (most of which I haven't watched) without having had the help I've had I would have been upset for days reliving my memories - my whole life would have stopped for as long as it took for me to get on an even keel again.

I am pleased when people are courteous enough to put trigger warnings in, it shows compassion to those who may be adversely upset by the content. I'm not a baby or child because I like a trigger warning, as a previous poster has suggested, and if they can't take this subject seriously in its entirety, including respecting the feelings of past victims of child abuse on this thread, then perhaps they should think twice before participating.

How were the children let down by the authorities? They were taken away from a mother with serious mental health issues to live with their father.

As far as the authorities would have seen this was a solvent, working, orderly home which was already bringing up several children without apparent issue. They apparently have no previous convictions. The authorities say that they were unaware of these videos until this campaign brought it to their attention. The only thing which disputes this is a clearly faked police report.

Short of CPS viewing every single video on YouTube there is no way they could know this sort of thing was happening, and that's clearly unrealistic.

I'd like to know exactly how the authorities let these children down. Because I can't think of a single reasonable explanation for that other than some vague feeling that the mother must have been a better bet and they should apparently have guessed this.

JessKM · 22/04/2017 00:00

We don't know why they were removed from their mother, it's all speculation and will probably never know the truth and fair enough, that's her business! But Is it fair to say it's due to serious mental health issues?

Mum has bipolar disorder yes, she's openly admitted that, but plenty of people have well managed bipolar disorder and are still successful parents.

I agree with you in that I don't think it's the authorities fault, you never know what goes on behind closed doors - are people expecting the SS to just do random checks on seemingly otherwise normal families? I imagine they probably had bigger fish to fry at the time. As long as they are acting now, you can't blame them for not being psychic!

BillSykesDog · 22/04/2017 00:25

She has bipolar and even well managed bipolar can cause serious issues, and she has learning difficulties. Either one of these would be a cause for concern and being comorbid would be of great concern.

Besides, a judge who was party to all the evidence decided she couldn't parent them. Although I know cases like this always brings posters out of the woodwork who believe we should do away with the entire family court system because these things are clearly better decided by a load of randoms on the internet who've seem a few social media posts. The same was said on the Samantha Baldwin threads and look how well that worked out eh?

The children have obviously suffered horribly and now it's in the hands of the authorities should be left alone to recover. I don't think the mother dragging this out or other people sticking their oars in demanding they're returned to her is particularly going to help.

For one thing, this mother running to YouTube outlets with fake police reports and trying to get as much publicity as possible smacks of someone eager to make money out of the situation rather than someone acting out of concern for her children.

Haven't watched this yet as don't want to in front of my kids so don't know why content is.

JessKM · 22/04/2017 21:31

It's very heavily edited and bits have been cut out, but she seems quite sincere in this video. I'm glad they're seeking some sort of help.

I do however heavily suspect there is some coercion behind this, and find it a bit Hmm that they've dressed totally differently and her hairs all prettied up and they're trying to be what they 'conceive' to be a normal family.

Hopefully this intervention will help those kids see some normality come back to their lives!!!!

Maudlinmaud · 22/04/2017 21:47

Watched it Jess and yes I'm cynical too, but it looks like the gravy train has stopped for them now. I had a look at their twitter and they appear to have lots of fans who are outraged the videos have been deleted.

JessKM · 22/04/2017 22:05

I hope it's been a massive wake up call for them! It seems to have been

differentnameforthis · 23/04/2017 11:05

It's very heavily edited and bits have been cut out, but she seems quite sincere in this video At least she looks at the camera...he does at one point, for seconds, and then it is like he looks straight through the camera!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 23/04/2017 12:12

Oh God, he's wearing a woollen vest over a checked shirt, totally contrived, they think everyone is as stupid as they are, clearly.

JessKM · 23/04/2017 13:23

Yeah I think she genuinely does seem a bit shell shocked but like she's genuinely sorry, I still don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 23/04/2017 16:40

I don't know what to think about the whole style change. It might be a sign of their idiocy, and their ideas of how easy others are to manipulate (as other posters have suggested), or it might be a genuine attempt to show how sincere they are. To put it bluntly, it's hard to tell because, on camera at least, the crudeness of their abilities seems to shine through (!).

So, it could be a crude yet sincere way of them attempting to emphasis the truthfulness of their apology. Their attempt to say sorry, act sorry and look sorry.

Or of course it could just be another attempt to wriggle out of a media storm!

Whichever is the truth (probably a bit of both), I hope some of the self insight in their words translates into better, kinder, more grown up parenting. The biggest thing was their change of stance from 'wasn't our fault our kiddies wanted us to do it' towards the shocking revelation that proper parents don't just do 'what our kiddies want us to do'. Proper parents parent from the front, they lead and they shape their children's family and home life... as they are the grown ups, and the buck stops with them... not their children.

Either way, I hope it's true that they have realised they need to do things differently, not just portray themselves online differently.

Disgusting behaviour from them.
I hope more than believe that they're sincere.
Those poor children, poor little Cody.

Maudlinmaud · 25/04/2017 09:30

DeFrancos video was a good watch, he talks about the heavily edited apology.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 25/04/2017 10:23

I am pleased, and I hope to god that the CPS are all over them like a rash. well done to who started this thread, as our many complaints will have made a difference

Sorry I'm bumping/hijacking/derailing general douchery...but I have news...It appears youtube have finally fired Onision, some people may be aware other the situation with him, he basically uploaded videos with images of underage girls making comments sometimes very mean about their body, with there knowledge they are underage, his wives are all incredibly young, he also likesaid to exploit his wife's mental breakdowns on the Internet for all to see and profit from instead of getting her medical help. I didnt want to make a thread and make us targets for his fans, wonder what was the final straw.

SailAwayWithMeHoney · 26/04/2017 17:37

What a relief HalfShellHero! I remember coming across his channel and a couple of news articles about him before. I'm glad he's had that platform removed.

littlemissangrypants · 26/04/2017 19:02

HalfShellHero From what I can see his channels are all still up. He did make a video saying that Youtube had fired him but from my understanding of it he was just trying to get his little girls to give him money.
He is making a lot less money ( he used to make £200 000 a year ish) due to his videos being de-monetized so is doing a lot of stuff on patreon. There was some controversy about the patreon thing too due to him taking more money from people than he told them. Not quite sure on all those details but again he seems to get a kick out of exploiting young girls.
I do not think youtube will ever get rid of him. After all they were fine with him talking about chaining up his girlfriend by her neck and wishing death on her.

EatSpamAmandaLamb · 26/04/2017 20:15

How do you mean YouTube fired him? Isn't he just one of the hundreds of thousands of YouTubers caught up in the Adsense boycott?

EatSpamAmandaLamb · 26/04/2017 20:16

A lot of the things Onision does are on live streams (majority of which were off the YT platform). He is a sick fuck though.

HalfShellHero · 26/04/2017 21:52

I've Googled for more info and there seems to be little solid info , but he seems to have really fallen from grace..
