*Trigger Warning* AIBU to not understand how this YouTuber isn't being investigated for child abuse?

So I actually found out about this channel via another large forum I post on. Essentially, a YouTube channel which is called DaddyOFive (it's reasonably large, around three quarters of a million subscribers) centres around a blog made by the father, with 5 children. The upshot of it is, people were angry about how the family, lead by the father; bully one of their children Cody, and pass it off as just 'good old fashioned parenting!'

At first until I checked out the videos I honestly thought it couldn't be that bad. I was horribly wrong. Some of the videos are entitled:
Dad burns Cody's Pokemon cards
Dad destroys son's DS
Dad forces son to throw away his toys
I'm sending Cody to military school

In their most recent video, because Cody had been bad (smeared poop on the walls; a recognised sign of abuse and distress), they took all the other kids to DisneyLand.

These videos are horrific, and despite them being located in the US, I really feel like CPS should be investigating and YouTube should shut the channel down for child abuse.

If you can bear to watch the videos, the guy's name is DaddyOFive, and I'd urge you to take a few minutes and report their videos for child abuse. I really don't understand how in this day and age, this kind of thing isn't investigated more quickly. The child is sobbing, and regularly in horrendous distress at the bullying at the hands of his parents and siblings, so these videos could trigger people; that's why I haven't directly linked them and why I've placed a warning on the top of my post.

I haven't watched the videos of know the family but is it possible if they're big that he broke the DS for example because it'll get views and make money that to just buy a replacement DS and the videos are fake?

Umm, no.

StillHungryy · 20/04/2017 23:47

Ok...just a thought considering people get worked up sometimes over "social experiments" or other videos that are quite often staged

JessKM · 20/04/2017 23:56

I think the key difference is that social experiments are rarely done involving children, and when they do, they're done tastefully and with the permission of both the child, who would be an actor, and the child's parents.

These are done by the parents and the child has no say as to whether or not he participates.

raspberrysuicide · 21/04/2017 00:01

Just noticed that all his videos have been taken down!!
Result!
There is just one which is them basically saying it was all set up and the kids were in on it. Which is obviously them frantically trying to excuse what they have done. It's called Family Destroyed after false aquisations (sic)!

differentnameforthis · 21/04/2017 00:26

you're clearly enjoying being outraged. Clearly enjoy being outraged by child abuse? What a moronic thing to say.

WanderingNotLost · 21/04/2017 01:25

buzzfeed article

HalfShellHero · 21/04/2017 06:56

Buzzfeed took a while to pick it up! And u look at their site 90 per cent is absolute garbage..

JessKM · 21/04/2017 09:37

I'm glad it's being picked up by these outlets but frustrated that they're focussing on just the one video...why the focus on the ink one? There was so much more there!!!

BillSykesDog · 21/04/2017 10:59

Well considering I didn't say it nor really relevant eh? Everybody is outraged by child abuse. The video was horrendous and it's now all in the hands of the authorities who are the best people to deal with it.

I was referring to the rest of the imaginary posts you've apparently read. And posters being outraged at the authorities because they're not psychic and accusing them of unfairly stealing children.

Incidentally, that new De Franco video has a statement from the mother's sister (who gave him the police report) which is written in exactly the same poor style with the same spelling mistakes. She obviously faked the report. Especially given Maryland authorities have denied they have ever been notified about the videos until De Franco exposed them.

Clearly the mother hasn't given a shit about the videos and is covering her arse.

Anyway, now it's all been handed over to the authorities all this picking over of 'police reports' and demands the children are returned to what is very likely to be an unfit mother is just prurient interest from rubber necking ghouls, not genuine concern.

HalfShellHero · 21/04/2017 11:16

Hmm about the mother aswell ...if I saw my children treated in that way I would break into the sodding house and retrieve fuck breaking/entering/kidnapping I'd do the time gladly!!!!

KingsCross88 · 21/04/2017 11:26

Their mother was interviewed. She says her ex and his wife basically stole the dc's from her and were manipulative in court and coached the dc's to say she'd abused them.

Given their YouTube "style" I can believe it. They are cruel and manipulative on camera to their own children! Yesterday I saw the deleted video where he encouraged one of the boys to slap the little girl hard across the face, then just sat there and filmed her crying... I do have genuine concern for these children!

JessKM · 21/04/2017 12:49

kingscross I agree with you entirely! I can imagine so much manipulation and sadness in that home - it's heartbreaking! The slapping incident is sickening...the words 'you don't hit girls, but she doesn't count' are etched. Way to show your daughter how you value her!!!

billsykesdog seems to just enjoy being controversial and trying to goad people...if he/she has no genuine concern for those children, that says way more about them than anyone else on here!

user1492528619 · 21/04/2017 14:10

I've just seen the video they have uploaded and to defend what they have done with 'the kids begged us.... they don't want to lose you' and trying to condemn and lay blame to Phillip DeFranco is genuinely as shocking as the content of the videos. I truly don't believe they think they've done anything wrong....

BillSykesDog · 21/04/2017 14:16

kingscross, can you point to any post on this thread where anybody has said that the children aren't being abused? Or that they shouldn't be removed? Nowhere. Nobody has said that. You are yet another person replying to imaginary posts that don't exist anywhere except in your own head.

Clearly the children should be removed. But probably not to a mother who's already had both her children removed, suffers from serious mental health issues and the only sign she can show of any concern for her children prior to their sudden fame is an obviously fake police report. It doesn't even have a case number or a signature ffs.

But who cares about being sensible when we can go on the internet and go 'OMGZ teh Social Services are stealing babiez!!11!1

JessKM · 21/04/2017 14:16

No they don't, that's the tragic thing. They're very self involved people. They're concerned about their 'fans'

BillSykesDog · 21/04/2017 14:19

Jess, you're just a ghoul. I bet you read Chat! and Take A Break and slow down when you see an accident.

JessKM · 21/04/2017 14:24

Are those supposed to be insults Hmm

greathat · 21/04/2017 14:34

Just watched the article video. Those poor kids, at least Cody needs to be removed asap

user1492528619 · 21/04/2017 15:11

I just cannot stop thinking about that poor little boy. Extremely relieved the footage is now offline and hopefully they can work on addressing the issues. The thought that a family like that can lozzock about the house all day, tormenting their children, uploading the footage and being paid thousands of dollars whilst normal parents break their backs working full time and juggling family life to put food on the table whilst trying to raise and love healthy individuals is disgusting.

misspriggy · 21/04/2017 15:57

"Trigger warnings" Honestly, what are we children?. I hear worse than this outside my front room window just after 3pm weekdays. Personally speaking - I find this more appalling, but for some reason we don't really like to talk about it??

FFS misspriggy just think. Just imagine that lots of people on MN have been the victims of this kind of abuse (and other sorts) as children and find this kind of thing extremely upsetting. Try getting a bit of empathy Angry

misspriggy that is a rather shocking video - however you can be outraged by both, the two are not mutually exclusive, I would just say this isn't the place for outrage on that video. Maybe start a new thread - I would be very interested to hear anyone trying to defend it and would definitely spark an interesting discussion!!!

BitOutOfPractice · 21/04/2017 16:12

Or, alternatively, what DeleteOrDecay said Grin

misspriggy · 21/04/2017 16:25

I hear people, Mums mainly, being truly horrible and abusive verbally and physically to kids on the school run in our street all the time.

I saw one mum screaming at her son and kicking him repeatedly in the backside a couple of days ago. My neighbour said how she saw one Mum burn her child with her cigarette, on the arm because he was whining for an ice cream from the van. AS for the language out of some of them!!!!

Abuse is abuse, why would anyone resent me for posting that clip? Tell me to fuck off? I dont get it? Confused
