Corbyn is lovely, why the negativity?

Really, why?
Just because he's a bit different in his presentation. He in principled and compassionate, I for one wish he would become the PM.

I think we have an excellent education system, and very good healthcare. Having used both recently I am quite surprised when I hear people saying it's dreadful. It really is not. In what way might my child's school be better? And would I feel that would be value for the extra money?

You may be right. But perhaps this is not true everywhere? And will the quality of your provisions erode if cuts continue?

Igneococcus · 21/04/2017 10:06

Are you claiming there are no food banks in Germany or Austria salzundessig? Because that is patently untrue, you might be talking about a different country of course, but Germany absolutely certainly has food banks, and as far as I know Austria has too, at least I know an Austrian who is volunteering in one.

nauticant · 21/04/2017 10:13

Yeah but they're not British food banks. If you were to put on your expat spectacles you'd be able to see that German/Austrian food banks are good while British food banks are bad.

PeterHouseMD · 21/04/2017 10:19

Our healthcare system is very good. In fact, in terms of the funding it receives, the NHS is really excellent. Countries with better healthcare systems pay considerably more for these.

Our education system is below average at best. There is a huge disparity in the quality of schools. While those at the very top are world-class, there are a large number of schools where the quality of education is very poor indeed.

Interesting reading from a labour voting journalist

I was very optimistic about JC to begin with and saw him as a breath of fresh air. Now I can't stand him. Britain is a naturally conservative country and people in this country will never vote for a socialist government. I agree with quite a few of his policies but he is hopeless when asked where the money is going to come from.
I am one of 'Thatcher's children' I was 11 when she came to office and the Tories remained in power until I was 29. I remember the absolute euphoria of the '97 election and finally getting rid of them.
My oldest child was 10 when the coalition got elected. I see the Tories being in power for at least 10 years so my son will be 27 before there's any chance of he rid of them and fuck knows what state the country will be in by then.
Those of you saying how dreadful TM is are completely missing the point. I despise this government with all my heart. But I also despise JC because by stubbornly clinging on like he is, he is sabotaging any chance of getting rid of the bastards and condemning my children to grow up under endless years of Tory rule like I did.

He's certainly lovely to Hamas and Hezbollah...

I think he has some principles, but he is not a leader. He's a back bench rabble rousing career politician with no experience of the real world (this sadly applies to most of our politicians). He'd get butchered on the world stage, and we'd be the ones getting made into sausages and served up to everyone else on a platter!

Plus he talks a great talk, but has no idea how to fund his ideas. He seems to think rich people grow on trees and can be plucked bare by taxes indefinitely.

NoLotteryWinYet · 21/04/2017 10:27

i don't even think the ideas are clever or well implemented. His answer to global corporation tax avoidance is to tell them they should be scared as he's coming after them. That's not a detailed policy, that's soundbite sabre rattling. How exactly is he going to stop them basing their HQ in tax havens? Is he going to send HMRC officials round to mug Starbucks managers?

And don't even get me started about him trying to re-nationalize and put more things into our badly underfunded public sector. Why can't we focus on fixing what we've got? I don't want things torn up, thanks.

AllThePrettySeahorses · 21/04/2017 10:47

I think there is a huge problem in the thread title - is Corbyn 'lovely'? Has anyone ever seen any evidence of it? Plenty of nasty incidents but are there really any nice ones?

(pointless contribution - as you were Smile )

NoLotteryWinYet · 21/04/2017 10:50

well he makes jam, has a beard, cardies and vests from t'market. Does that qualify as lovely? A pro JC friend has posted clips of how great he is with kids. What's happening with Unite, not so very lovely.

Hope that helps some of you make a decision, and I hope it makes some of you froth at the mouth Grin

EnjoyYourVegetables · 21/04/2017 10:55

Nice attitude!

AllThePrettySeahorses · 21/04/2017 10:56

NoLotteryWinYet - he makes jam WITHOUT SUGAR!!!

Nah, not interested in clickbait blogs JustAnotherPoster00

NoLotteryWinYet · 21/04/2017 10:57

without sugar? Er, yum (not) :) I do recall him saying at some point that he wasn't a fan of refined sugar and didn't really eat it.

EnjoyYourVegetables · 21/04/2017 11:06

I do think Corbyn is a great advert for cycling and a veggy diet. He looks good for his age.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 21/04/2017 11:07

Its not in any way clickbait he really does have some very well reasoned arguments and points to make, but if the world outside your bubble scares you then meh

EnjoyYourVegetables · 21/04/2017 11:08

Wibble..

NoLotteryWinYet · 21/04/2017 11:18

Which of his policies seems well thought out and detailed to you? None of them do to me, he looks like a bad old blast from a bad we don't want to go back to, to me. A lot of rhetoric and very little new thought.

BMW6 · 21/04/2017 11:19

Somewhat bemused by PP posting that blog - it would be a pretty "odd" person who could be influenced in their voting choice by such ranting. Bit of an own goal, actually......

Two4One2017 · 21/04/2017 11:20

Sobering article from the Institute of Fiscal Studies

BMW6 · 21/04/2017 11:22

"Well reasoned"????? Okaaaay....(backs away slowly)

Salzundessig · 21/04/2017 11:22

Of course there are food banks here for the homeless / women's refuges etc but I don't think many working families need them all of a sudden because the social welfare is adequate and hasn't been cut (yet, although they are threatening to cut it). Maybe I have the wrong idea about rising poverty from the info I get from family and friends and the media, but it seems way worse there than here. Only in the last few years though.

JanetBrown2015 · 21/04/2017 11:27

Two, he's right. We need radical changes. 70% of our spending is on the NHS, pensions and welfare and schools and most people don't earn huge amounts so we are not going to get more tax in from those on over £70k - there are not enough of them. We will need radical change - hopefully the triple lock on pensions will not be guaranteed in the Tory manifesto for a start.

NoLotteryWinYet · 21/04/2017 11:27

I couldn't agree more with the IFS - we need a moderate left/labour party sensibly educating people that we need to fund what we have, properly. We need a new Blair-Brown team...

Elections should be about choices. My guess is we will be presented with false choices. Maintaining the current level of public services with no more tax on the one hand. Substantially improving public services by only taxing the rich, the multinationals, on the other. Neither looks real. The real choices facing us are much harder than that. We need to be treated as grown up enough to make those choices or we will all end up disappointed
