Corbyn is lovely, why the negativity?

Really, why?
Just because he's a bit different in his presentation. He in principled and compassionate, I for one wish he would become the PM.

Jeremy Hunt doesn't divide society? Are you serious? Grin

Boris Johnson is a joke! N'est pas?

Gove is an abject failure.

The Tory party is wearing double protection on sanitary ware and clenching everything. There is no one other than The May.

The choice is Theresa, Jeremy, and Timothy. (If it sounds like an Enid Blyton cast of characters, I do apologise.)

Justanotherlurker · 20/04/2017 19:59

Where will he lose swathes of leave voters? The shires?
He might lose a few votes in Islington!

Like I said it depends on which side of the coin he falls as he cannot keep ignoring the subject until the election.

IIRC 149 labour constituencies voted for leave, after the rhetoric of the remain camp around everyone being misguided, fooled etc hasn't created a "bregret" upswing that certain publications and supporters initially hoped, In fact a lot of the JC crowd have decided to double down on that kind of rhetoric so could make it worse.

(speaking as a remainer myself, although I shouldn't need to clarify)

51howdidthathappen · 20/04/2017 19:59

Odd isn't it how Corbyn couldn't run a parish council but managed to lead the nation to Brexit !

Many working class had abondoned the Labour Party years before Blair. Some returned very briefly for the first Blair Victory. They didn't stick around.
I would love to vote Labour. Although this thread has put me off, more than JC ever could.

Elendon · 20/04/2017 20:05

off you go 51 and make sure the door doesn't bang your arse on the way out.

Justanotherlurker · 20/04/2017 20:06

I wouldn't say snp are especially left either, I think Labour's woes in Scotland are down to a lot more than not being left enough. Including a stream of ineffectual and uninspiring scottish labour leaders.

I agree with this, I think its more of a myth that the SNP has used wisely. It's a weird nationalism (anti Westminster, but pro Brussels) scenario.

raisedbyguineapigs · 20/04/2017 20:14

Eh? It wasn't Islington that voted leave! It was the Labour Northern heartlands just as much as the Shires

grins · 20/04/2017 20:22

Elendon - apparently you didn't understand my post. I meant none of them have divided society into wealth extractors and wealth creators whilst having created nothing and sponged off others for their income for their whole career.

Headofthehive55 · 20/04/2017 20:31

A large percentage of Tory voters use the nhs and education services. So scare tatics such as well you'll have to pay for your child's education is not really helpful.
You need to get the general populous believing in all paying that little but more for something a bit more quality..which doesn't scare the run if the mill person.
Let's face it the majority in this country work and pay taxes.

OneHopShop · 20/04/2017 20:32

"I would love to vote Labour. Although this thread has put me off, more than JC ever could."

When I read the thread title, I was sure that it was posted by a Tori sympathiser seeking to evoke as much negativity as possible to promote further the idea that Corbin is unelectable. Savvy Sad.

Justanotherlurker · 20/04/2017 20:40

Eh? It wasn't Islington that voted leave! It was the Labour Northern heartlands just as much as the Shires

Not sure if this is directed at me, I doubt he will lose any votes in Islington, but he could lose a lot of metropolitan votes if he decides to back the northern heartlands

He can't keep ignoring the issue, I am looking forward to the full 180 of a lot of posters on here now he has decided to go the "anti-establishment" route, after deservedly ridiculing Farage and Trump supporters for populist thinking, the irony of trying to paint a career politician as anti establishment is going to be cringe worthy

InWinoVeritas · 20/04/2017 20:53

You vote for the party, not the man. When you consider Labour polices under JC…
Abolition of University tution fees
Re nationalisation of British Rail
Remove all profit making companies from NHS
Abolish zero hours contracts
Create a national education service for all children
Increase tax on global corporates and the very wealthy (all those tax dodging billionaires)
Break up the 6 energy companies
Invest more in NHS & mental heal
Really, Whats not to like??

nauticant · 20/04/2017 21:03

Dawn Butler explains Corbyn's speech:

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p050mzc6

It's quite a laugh.

Livelovebehappy · 20/04/2017 21:16

Inwino; but this is same old, same old with Labour. They make these grand gestures without actually thinking through how they are going to fund these generous policies. They get in government on the back of them, but then just get us into huge debt, which a subsequent Tory government then has to pick up the pieces from. Of course a lot of the policies you quote are brilliant, but realistically, it's pie in the sky stuff.

comehomemax · 20/04/2017 21:21

That Dawn Butler interview is fucking awful. Totally unprepared.

Batgirlspants · 20/04/2017 21:38

But it was 'Dawns big day out'

Not often you patronise a journalist and look stupid and then get your star bucks and your costa coffee mixed up and look ludicrous!

Weep weep. Where have you gone my Labour Party! Please come back we miss you

Justanotherlurker · 20/04/2017 21:51

Abolition of University tution fees
Ignoring the fact that is was introduced by labour, fine, if we can accept that a degree has been devalued and are not needed to get a McJob then university intake will diminish and a lot of university job losses will happen.

Re nationalisation of British Rail

Nice in theory, maybe after we leave the EU this could happen, considering we have one of, if not the oldest rail system (some hang up on being the pioneer) requires an awful lot investment and look at the backlash of HS2/3 (and no its not just tory enclaves that oppose it, its NIMBY)

Remove all profit making companies from NHS
Again, ignoring it was labour that expanded this, the NHS is not some sacred cow that should not be touched, most of Europe provide a mixed of private/government subsidy that works objectivly better than our system, we need to take it out of the political sphere and look at it differently, it will never go into the full American route and to think so is blinkerd and not looking objectively.

Abolish zero hours contracts
This meme needs to die, there are many iterations of a zero hour contract, and the polls suggest that even those at the bottom of the ladder the numbers are insignificant and 2/3rds are more than happy with their situation.

Create a national education service for all children
This is just buzz words

Increase tax on global corporates and the very wealthy (all those tax dodging billionaires)

How is this going to be implemented as its just empty words, you cant put globalisation back in the box now

Break up the 6 energy companies
Very vague , it doesn't matter if the energy source is renewable or not, there are only so many energy providers and realistic energy sources, all of which costs money.

Invest more in NHS & mental heal
Again just empty rhetoric, how, where and do we get just throw money at it or ask for some reform.

Really, Whats not to like??

Nothing if you can back it up with facts and costings, everyone has a wish list

BREAKING NEWS

Jeremy Corbyn has learned the lessons of borrowed Ed Milibands great election winning idea of predators and producers. In a surprise move he has branded UK businesses as wealth extractors and they will be taxed to death under his Labour Momentum leadership.

So far he has failed to specify which businesses will be shut down under this new punitive regime but M&S, BA, Costa Coffee and Tesco's are expected to be targeted first.

SucculentChineseMeal · 20/04/2017 22:18

Careful anyone criticising Dawn Butler, clearly you're only saying this because you're a massive racist - according to makeourfuture's logic anyway.

However surely Butler's finest moment was being one of the 36 idiots that put Corbyn on the labour leadership ballot in 2015, despite supporting Andy Burnham.

NoLotteryWinYet · 20/04/2017 22:20

Anybody see that Gerard Coyne has been suspended from unite? You couldn't make this stuff up, looks like a witch hunt.

Anon1234567890 · 20/04/2017 22:30

Do you think JC could suspend TM from her job?

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/04/2017 22:32

I don't think you can or should just vote for the policies not the person; you need to have the ideas and the ability to implement them. JC could have the best policies in the world but he can't hold his own party together so he will be utterly unable to make them happen.

bojorojo · 20/04/2017 22:37

I think it is not just costings, justalurker, it's the fact that taxes will have to be increased to do all of this. Just going after Google and Starbucks won't cut it. The NHS alone is costing us £120 bn a year. Labour will introduce higher taxes whether it is vat, income tax or corporation tax. I agree with everything you say and Labour has never won an election with this type of policy in recent times. Preaching that you are anti establishment appeals to Momentum but few normal voters outside the Labour strongholds. It will be interesting to see how these areas vote now as they were almost all Leave areas last year.

Every time Labour thinks profits are a dirty word, they forget that people are employed by these companies and..... They are voters. Profits equal jobs and no risk of redundancy. People like their companies to be profitable and grasp the opportunities this brings. Nearly every part of public service could be improved but dis-incentivising companies to make money reduces the tax take.

I think a lot more effort could be put into reducing costs in the NHS. The NHS is too generous and we need a mixed system. Every decision made about the NHS is political and short term.

With the uncertainty with Brexit, we need support for business not threats from Labour. Business hates instability and that is what Labour would bring to the country as they are vindictive, wealth haters.

Riversleep · 20/04/2017 23:08

just another lurker Don't you know, the last Labour government don't count because, you know, they were establishment and did crass things like get elected. What is a 'national education service' , by the way?

user1473008242 · 20/04/2017 23:12

A nice person your obviously a hard core lefty if he was given control of our country he would destroy it like labour always do I'm afraid you might as well let monkeys run the country!!

GretchenFranklin · 20/04/2017 23:58

I'm afraid you might as well let monkeys run the country!!

what the ?

do you think May is really 'running' this country?

Do you follow current events at all? Grin

Corbyn is a better bet than May
