Corbyn is lovely, why the negativity?

Really, why?
Just because he's a bit different in his presentation. He in principled and compassionate, I for one wish he would become the PM.

He'll change the Labour Party into the Socialist Workers Party- a party that has been in existence for many, many years. But has never been elected. In the unlikely even that he's still there in 10 years, he would have turned the Labour party into a protest group.

Livelovebehappy · 20/04/2017 08:16

I can't see why Theresa May won't do a head to head TV debate with Corbyn et al. Corbyn doesn't speak much in public, which I think proves what most people say about him; that he can't speak off the cuff, but has to have everything scripted. I think May would wipe the floor with Corbyn if she had a public debate with him. Corbyn proves the saying; 'it's better to keep your mouth shut and people think you're an idiot, than to open it and remove all doubt'.

comehomemax · 20/04/2017 08:25

I honestly don't care whether he is lovely or not. I am a lifelong labour voter of 6 previous GE's and haven't ever voted for anyone because they are lovely. However I have to vote for a leader that is effective, good leadership skills, articulate in getting the message across to the public, that has clear policies that I think will be implementable as well as beneficial. JC has none of those skills to any great degree - something that has been made clear over and over. He misses deadlines for journalists therefore losing chances to get his message across, went on holiday for the last few days of a crucial referendum, isn't clear where he stands, talks very theoretically without getting a point through. The Tories have an incredible ability to stay on message and repeat it ad nauseam but it cuts through. JC and his very inexperienced cabinet just don't seem able to grasp that.
They are the reasons I'm unlikely to vote Labour for the first time ever. Loveliness / old Labour / New Labour is the absolute last thing on my list of wants and needs.

51howdidthathappen · 20/04/2017 08:29

Traditional labour supporters abandoned the party, during and after the Blair years. More of the same will not get them back.
I did join as a supporter to vote for Corbyn. I did not join as a full member due to the actions, of some within the party, that could not get behind a democratically elected leader.

birdsdestiny · 20/04/2017 08:36

I love the way those who defend corbyn kindly point out that we are all being brainwashed by a right wing media. Who knew there was a right wing media in Britain, thanks so much for pointing it out. We have lived through debates on the media and labour for the last 40 years, you are not saying anything earth shatteringly new, in fact it's boring beyond description. We have had that debate. We watched a Labour party win 3 elections under the same media. If corbyn can not win elections due to the media then he is not capable of leading the Labour party.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 20/04/2017 08:56

Crow you obviously haven't seen Corbyn interviewed by someone who will ask him questions he doesn't want to answer like Andrew Neil or Andrew Marr (both are excellent at interviewing politicians but of course are accused of picking on him) he will certainly show his more aggressive or forthright side then and of course there is the Channel 4 news episode

And Corbyn until 2015 was a backbencher he was never more than a rebellious back bencher and thorn in the side for those leading the party who edited some rather dubious political paper. Corbyn was never a cabinet minister his dealings with Terrorists was to show solidarity (IRA) he has never been part of any peace process talks or negotiations (though his PR have tried to spin it to show he has been) those in the cabinet or the PM at the time have been so it is not comparable.

It is you that has fallen the PR spin of him being a principled man

and totally agree with the poster who said his laziness has allowed the country to become more right wing you are absolutely spot on

malificent7 · 20/04/2017 09:01

Why does it matter if he dosnt like veing British? Surely the antidote to tbe rampant nationalism of the far right is to be able to see your country objectively.... as an ex colonial power and a bit of a fuck up at that.

ShatnersWig · 20/04/2017 09:03

Hard to lead Britain if you don't like being British, I'd have thought

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 20/04/2017 09:03

51 Do you mean the traditional party voters that abandoned labour under Blair but have joined since Corbyn became leader yes they are really going to make a difference Hmm as we have seen in elections since he became leader

ShatnersWig · 20/04/2017 09:04

Be a bit like an atheist accepting the post of Archbishop of Canterbury

flippinada · 20/04/2017 09:04

For those fuming about his unfair treatment by the MSM to date (and yes, newsflash, our media is overwhelmingly right wing.. it always has been), it's nothing compared to the hammering he's going to get over the comings days and weeks.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 20/04/2017 09:05

It's interesting that post Brexit, with the tories having to elect a new leader (the perfect chance for Corbyn to sew up future election victory by presenting the party as united and organised and reliable), it was Labour that came across as a total shower of shit to a lot of people

EnjoyYourVegetables · 20/04/2017 09:05

Because Self hate sets an individual on a bad path let alone a country.

flippinada · 20/04/2017 09:05

*coming days and weeks.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 20/04/2017 09:06

It is odd that he despises the privileged as he certainly comes from a privileged background that he constantly plays down

flippinada · 20/04/2017 09:11

Yes, he comes from a very privileged background.

Batgirlspants · 20/04/2017 09:16

51 well I hope you are satisfied then with your actions. Brexit! On course for a huge Tory victory!

Well done you aren't you clever Angry

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 20/04/2017 09:17

He is utterly useless. It's got little to do with how he dresses, how he comes across on tv, or what the press write about him and everything to do with what he actually says and does.

I can't believe he's the age he is, been in politics for so long and still comes across as not having a clue wtf he's doing. Hmm

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 20/04/2017 09:17

The right wing press haven't bothered to pull Corbyn's principled persona apart yet as it suited them that he stayed as leader of Labour until a GE

Agree they certainly will now

Batgirlspants · 20/04/2017 09:19

Yes birdssgree is all labour members are brainwashed by the right wing press. HmmYawn. Sounds like something a wet behind the ear 20 something student spouts and thinks he's edgy.

Idiots.

Batgirlspants · 20/04/2017 09:21

Agree liveLove I think he would be utterly dreadful in a proper debate. He gets aggressive when questioned that's why he surrounds himself by supporters all the time and can't take criticism.

Increasinglymiddleaged · 20/04/2017 09:39

The right wing press haven't bothered to pull Corbyn's principled persona apart yet as it suited them that he stayed as leader of Labour until a GE

Well they didn't need to the left wing dm much admired Guardian did it for them.

makeourfuture · 20/04/2017 09:46

I've always found her irritating. I disagree with most of what comes out of her mouth, she talks down to people, and she has a nasty bullying tone.

Being honest though, do we dislike Abbot because of her mannerisms, or because we are socialised to not like it when a black woman firmly states her case?

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 20/04/2017 09:53

I dislike Abbot because she's a condescending, hypocritical bully who spouts as much shit as Corbin does...I've unfortunately met her several times and she's thoroughly unpleasant

EnjoyYourVegetables · 20/04/2017 09:54

On Diane: I started off idolising her as a youngster and there was a gradual realisation that she was flawed (which is fine and normal) and now I know I fundamentally disagree with her. No I can't look at Mao and admire his sterling work (does she read much in depth?) Deng Xiaoping yes, but Mao absolutely not. And then there Venezuela.

But I'm probably just racist.
