To take dd to a and e?

She is 16 months and tripped over yesterday lunchtime. Since then she won't weight bear on one foot at all. She can't walk and can't even crawl.

The foot isn't swollen or bruised and I can touch it and move it without her crying.
She's had calpol and slept ok but still can't weight bear.

A and e or wait it out another day?

A&e or possibly minor injuries if you have one near you? A baby that young would only stop weight bearing if it is actually painful, so I think it needs checking.

Of course you should take her. Toddler fractures are notorious for being difficult to diagnose.

I wouldn't bother with minor injuries. Most won't treat kids of that age with possible fractures.

I work in a surgery and the Doctor's advice especially for a child who can't weight bear after a fall is A&E. Hope your lo is ok.

I would. It could just be a sprain but worth checking. My dc had a fracture and was not really using their limb properly and it just didn't look right.

Go prepared with snacks/drinks and books/magazines for you and your little one. You might be waiting a while.

Yes but whether they can do it today I'm not sure as it's a BH.

Definitely take her, there'll be staff there who can deal with her if it's broken.

Sounds like a toddler fracture- my 16mth old did it going down a slide, but they quite often happen after a trip if the child is twisting at the same time. Worth getting checked out- I'm a trained GP (not in the U.K.) and if I saw a non- weightbearing child after a tripping accident I'd be arranging for an X-ray and talking to either paeds or orthopaedics for their opinion, so A and E seems a reasonable place to go! My 16mther had a full leg cast for 3 weeks, but she managed!

Take her. My DD got a fracture at 16 months. She went to bed fine and slept all night. It was only in the morning when we got her out of bed and she couldn't stand up we realised it could be a fracture.

Definitely needs A&E today.

Probably best to go as soon as you can - not because it's desperately medically urgent, but earlier this morning rather than later on will probably be quieter and therefore quicker.

I'd be off to A & E, at that age they are susceptible to greenstick fractures, my son had 3 .. all caused by minor things, 1, jumped off the sofa, 2, knocked his hand on a doorframe, 3, fell over, none of these had any signs you could visually see, all ended up in casts

Hope she's okay - would also just go straight to a&e as no doubt the GP would send you anyway for an X-ray

Many minor injuries can only do x rays in 'office hours' so I'd go to a and e

I took DS1 to A&E at 14 months old for the same reason. Luckily his turned out to be a sprain/soft tissue but I thinkA&E is the right call, especially if she can't even crawl with it.

Minor injuries say that x ray is open and they can look at it so we will go now.

AE definitely my 16 month old broke his leg after falling off sofa. Cast for 6 weeks.

Constantly being told that a and e is for life threatening situations by Facebook and the media leads to non medically trained people (who can't always judge how serious things are effectively) worrying about being seen as time wasters.

Glad you're going OP and hope LO is OK Flowers. FWIW I took dd2 once because she wouldn't weight bear and it was nothing serious.

If in doubt then go is my motto, I'm not a doctor they are the ones who can judge if it's serious or not I think. (Within reason obviously, I am not defending the 'broken nail' fraternity)

^^ This. The daft thing is it's not so much the money being wasted through a&e it's the goverment cutting funding that's the true issue. Far easier to blame the public.
Hope your little one is fine op and hasn't broken anything
