My dog bit my son

I'm devastated. This afternoon our almost 2 year old Cavapoo bit ds1 16 on the mouth, hard enough that he had to go to hospital for stitches. He's never done anything like this before but now I feel as though I can't trust him at all.

I don't really know what my AIBU is, just wondered if anyone else has ever had this happen and what I should do next really. Ds1 is so upset and was more concerned about consequences for the dog than for himself.

Abernathy actually pack theory has been resoundingly debunked. Dog wasn't on any old chair, OP has already said the chair was the dog's actual bed.

@Flossimodo - in what way is the dog given to biting? Hmm It has never bitten anyone before, OP's son has already admitted he was in the wrong and the dog gave multiple warnings it was unhappy being disturbed and teased first. It's the dog equivalent of it standing up to itself and hitting back a bully in the playground. You wouldn't say that child was given to violence and hand them over to social services. Please think before you start advocating the killing of a live animal just because you lack common sense.

That doesn't mean you immediately kill the dog for any act of aggression . If it does, you have no business getting a dog.

Doesn't mean you keep a dog in the same house as your children after it has bitten one of them. If it does you have no business having children.

It's a cavapoo (a small 5-10 kg breed), who bit a 16-year-old, once.

Stop acting as if every instance of a dog biting = mortal danger. It is lunacy.

Koala So you wouldn't mind being bitten in the face then? It's just a Spaniel/Poodle after all.

Sixteen year old boys should be kept away from dogs as they are prone to aggravate them.

Your son is spot on to be concerned about the dog.

If you have the dog destroyed on account of high jinx with your teenage son, then your son could grow up to hate you and feel guilty for putting the dog's life at risk.

It's NOT the dog's fault judging by what you have posted.

A few stitches, now move on ....

This dog needs to be destroyed. Dog owners make me sick... putting a stupid animal above your baby! Social Services should by should be informed imo

What baby?
