I know I'm being unreasonable because this petition should be hidden away in the depths of the petition topic, where no fucker can see it Blush

But before HQ moves it and gives me a swift kick up the arse, please can I ask you to sign This petition to halt the cutbacks?

Not everyone will agree of course, what with all the other awful cutbacks going on and that's fine.

But an area near me got rid of all their Lollipop patrollers last week and exactly 6 days later a child got hit on the school crossing Sad

Anyway I'll stop waffling now. MNHQ I do apologise for blatantly putting this here for traffic, but when you move it, can you all sign it first? Grin Grin

Thanks.

Signed.
Totally agree, they got rid of our lollipop lady about 18 months ago, just after they put a pedestrian crossing there. The amount of times I've been midway through the crossing with my 4 year old and some twat doesn't see me and just carries on driving, it infuriates me!! It's only a matter of time before an accident happens Sad

Our lollipop lady retired about 5 years ago. Her job was advertised for 2 years and there was not a single application.

I know Pimmsy. Some pedestrian/zebra crossings are so dangerous during school run times, they still have to put lollipop people on them.

Most lollipop services only cost around £170,000 per year, which is nothing to councils, even though they do have to save millions.

Bike it might have been that the council refused to pay on a pro-rata basis.

I know some boroughs don't and it can be very difficult to find people willing/able to go without pay, during the school holidays.

Signed. Locally to me the kids have to cross a busy main road if they live in certain areas of town. Lollypop people do an excellent job and I would hate to hear of kids getting killed on our main road through town (only underpass would mean a good 10-15 min walk out of their way to school as well).

Our school has to fund raise to pay for our own lollipop lady - no council or local authority provision so without paying for her ourselves our crossing would be un(wo)manned.

Our lollipop lady has done the same crossing for over 40 years. Every few months the council threaten to cut funding, thankfully it hasn't happened yet. She knows everything about everyone, often having "crossed" parents and even grandparents (we start young round 'ere).

She has been off for the last few weeks and it's made the journey feel much harder work. It's a crossroads of two moderately busy roads.

Signed, thanks Worra.

They do such an important job. Our council tried to get rid of them some time ago but I think too much complaints from the local community. Unfortunately our lovely lollipop lady left and is yet to be replaced, not an easy vacancy to fill, not enough hours for poor pay. Our crossing is on a busy blind corner, hard enough for adults to cross and see near misses with the older children walking alone with not enough road sense yet.

Done.us school crossing patrols(to use our proper title lol) must stick together.luckily the council where I am are taking more on, no sign of cutbacks but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

Signed. I'm not sure if this is a devolved issue or if it applies nationwide but whatever Westminster decides can influence local decisions anyway.

Our lollipop lady is brilliant and definitely makes a difference. Despite having a zebra crossing it's such a busy road having so someone brandishing a bright yellow sign stood there all reflective avoids all doubt that the crossing needs to be obeyed.

Our lollipop lady got run over! Before that they were trying to get rid of her and there's been no replacement. It's just a matter of time until a child gets hit - it's outrageous.

As far as I'm aware they were cut where I am a long time ago. And you hear endless stories of accidents and near misses from local parents.
