...to ask if anyone's seen one of these new pound coins yet?

They've been out for two weeks now, I pay for a fair amount of things in cash but I just keep getting old pound coins in my change. Is it just me?

I've had a few back with change

Haven't seen a single one.

Although when I was at the hospital last week I did see a notice at the car park ticket machine warning that the new £1 coins wouldn't work in it.

ParmaViolets17 I explained why they changed shape above.

It's because 1 in 30 of the old pound coins are counterfeit. That's too many, so they created a new one that's a lot harder, almost impossible actually, to fake.

I got my first one in same change today along with 3 old ones.

I think I'm going to save them all. I have one of those pot of dreams money boxes for ds about 1/4 full of old pound coins, but I'm going to have to try and empty it out without breaking it otherwise by the time it's full I won't be able to bank them. need to replace them with new ones now.

I've seen loads, but then I have the joy of a day every week in retail. Although the new £5s appeared much, much faster.

Do they really have trackers inside?

Wouldn't it cost too much to make them if they all had trackers inside?

And after saying earlier in the thread that I hadn't seen any, I got 3 of them in my change when I popped out to the corner shop after lunch.

Having seen them being made at the Mint, and having made one myself, they do all have a tracker.

I saw one yesterday. DH got one at work and brought it home for me and the kids to see. There was another in the till today.

I was quite excited and got a jewellers loup out for a good look.

does anyone think they started to make the new £1 coins before brexit? maybe they thought there was no way we would leave, hence the similarity to the euro?

hungryhippo90 The new pound coin has been in development for many years. Nothing to do with the Euro or Brexit.

I had one yesterday. And had to swap it at the leisure centre as it doesn't work in their lockers. They'd had no end of issues apparently. God knows how they're going to cope when the old ones go if they haven't changed their lockers by then!

The dual metal coins are harder to forge.

JiltedJohnsJulie It's like the £2 coins, they seem to come into circulation in fits and starts. I'm sure all the savers bank theirs around the same time. Or they all get skint and raid the piggy bank at the same time!

But they were realeased in the north first so will trickle down gradually
