To be annoyed at driving 91 mph on a 70 mph road.

On a 70mph road with myself in the back as 7 month of DD was crying so 5 year old is in the front.

I was furious. OH rolls eyes when I shout "wow!! Slow down! Your going 91 mph!!"

Then give him death stare.

He replies "stop looking at me like that. I'm not going to crash."

It makes me so frustrated as he just doesn't take it serious.

I know it's common to go slightly over the speed limit but this was too far for me. It's really annoyed me but I don't want it to ruin our day out.

I think it's best to ignore Titty

boolifooli · 09/04/2017 15:25

He didn't just speed in 70's. He was dangerous in 30's too. Remember him getting angry about being cut up on a roundabout in town, his reaction was to overtake and brake, still in the 30. At the traffic lights the other driver got out and stormed over. The other driver was bigger so ex was suddenly apologetic. So pathetic.

WeAllHaveWings · 09/04/2017 15:25

I regularly do 85-90mph with my 6 year old in the car. Speed doesn't necessarily = dangerous.

It does if something unexpected happens even if the motorway is relatively empty of other vehicles, maybe your tyre blows, or something is dropped from a bridge and your speed affects the outcome. It could mean the crash barriers don't hold you and you cross to the oncoming traffic, it could mean your car flips more times and there is more likelihood of the car frame giving way and crushing you and your 6 year old.

WeAll

Oh stop it with your well-argued logic. There's no place for it here Wink

ShiroiKoibito · 09/04/2017 15:28

He wouldn't be driving my children anywhere again.

yeah i can see that working in the real world - 'sorry dp, you cant drive your own DC anywhere ever again, because you drove over the speedlimit'

Hmm
HappCatt · 09/04/2017 15:28

I think Titty is enjoying a bit of recreational arguing Wink

ZilphasHatpin · 09/04/2017 15:30

yeah i can see that working in the real world - 'sorry dp, you cant drive your own DC anywhere ever again, because you drove over the speedlimit

Well it worked fine for us Smile

TittyGolightly · 09/04/2017 15:31

Nope. I'm genuinely sick of the speed = danger rhetoric.

Explains why so many fell for the pro Brexit arguments - serious lack of critical reasoning.

NotYoda · 09/04/2017 15:31

Something about driving threads

It's like a twat-phone goes off in man HQ and the JC fans come wobbling over with their pinks slacks and straw man arguments

NotYoda · 09/04/2017 15:31

BINGO

ZilphasHatpin · 09/04/2017 15:32

😂😂😂 oh titty you're full of it today.

JaxingJump · 09/04/2017 15:34

😂Titty. And you did a speeding awareness course... I've done it and it's all about how speeding increases danger!

NotYoda · 09/04/2017 15:34

Please can we talk about cyclists next?

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/04/2017 15:35

I don't think British drivers could cope with no speed limit sections of the motorway. The Germans drive far better than the Brits on the motorway and you really have to have your wits about you in Germany. The roads there wouldn't be half as dangerous if the drivers anticipated and understood speed better. I had to be very careful not to be made into a sandwich over there when some Pratt decided to overtake onto the fast lane at 110/120kphw with me almost upon them doing 180/190kph and a Porche propelling towards my backside at the speed of light (cue my brakes and potentially having to swerve into the middle lane to avoid the Porsche). The stat in Germany is interesting as only 1/3 of roads over there have no speed limit. And whoever said there can be no comparison. That's untrue. There are large sections of British motorways, which would have no speed limit if they were in Germany. Moreover vast sections of the autobahns are just undulating dual carriage ways built for Hitler (or they were 10ish years ago) and it would be very dangerous to drive on them at more than 70mph.

If the road isn't busy, your dh is unlikely to have an accident. But personally since having dd, I've slowed down. And I've had to as I now live in the uk. I would love to cruise along at 90 tbh but I don't. What if you had a blow out?

ShiroiKoibito · 09/04/2017 15:35

ZilphasHatpin really - so your DP doesnt drive their own DC anywhere? really? are you still together?

do you go out as a family? what happens if your DC need to be picked up and you can't , or if they need to be taken somewhere you're not going?

StiickEmUp · 09/04/2017 15:35

Cars have got better, but human reaction times haven't improved so speed limits are fine by me.

animalsAreDelicious · 09/04/2017 15:35

I wouldn't do 90 with my children in the back but did more last week when it was just me (30% more).

Inappropriate speed kills, as another poster said. In many conditions, it's far safer to drive a over the speed limit on a dual carriage way or motorway than attempt to legally drive at 60 on some back roads.

I also have a racing licence (National B) and a very grippy and powerful car. Some back roads around me have a 60mp/h limit but trying to get close to this would likely be a fatal decision.

FWIW, I've never been caught speeding and never been in an accident.

Andrewofgg · 09/04/2017 15:36

recreational arguing - I like that Grin

Man HQ has not sent me here and I cannot stand Clarkson. 91 mph is absurd at any time and on any surface except Silverstone. Even if your car is in perfect condition and you have razor-sharp reactions the next car may be in need of a service and its driver may not be as good as you.

The most dangerous part of a car is the nut behind the wheel!

TittyGolightly · 09/04/2017 15:36

And you did a speeding awareness course... I've done it and it's all about how speeding increases danger!

Mine wasn't. Apart from outside schools. (I don't do 70+ Outside schools. Wink)

NotYoda · 09/04/2017 15:38

Andrew

I know you don't wear pink slacks

Apologies for casual sexism

Andrewofgg · 09/04/2017 15:38

animalsareDelicious swhen you say Inappropriate speed kills that may be the best typo of the year.

Indeed it does.

And you are a dangerous fool.

TittyGolightly · 09/04/2017 15:39

I also have a racing licence (National B) and a very grippy and powerful car. Some back roads around me have a 60mp/h limit but trying to get close to this would likely be a fatal decision.

Same here. But the twats that just won't go more than 20mph on roads where 45-50mph is fine boil my piss.

Papafran · 09/04/2017 15:39

Titty and other defenders of no speed limits, Germany has a significantly higher number of road deaths per capita than the UK. So, yes, it 'works' there if you discount the fatalities.

You are a reckless idiot if you drive 90 mph with a child in the car.

Maybe I am biased though because my friend who was doing 70 was clipped from behind by a car doing 90 on a motorway. He was unscathed, she ended up a quadriplegic at 31.

animalsAreDelicious · 09/04/2017 15:40

Andrewofgg

Where was the typo?

TittyGolightly · 09/04/2017 15:40

Even if your car is in perfect condition and you have razor-sharp reactions the next car may be in need of a service and its driver may not be as good as you.

I wouldn't be doing 91 were there another car close enough to make an incident likely.
