To be annoyed at driving 91 mph on a 70 mph road.

On a 70mph road with myself in the back as 7 month of DD was crying so 5 year old is in the front.

I was furious. OH rolls eyes when I shout "wow!! Slow down! Your going 91 mph!!"

Then give him death stare.

He replies "stop looking at me like that. I'm not going to crash."

It makes me so frustrated as he just doesn't take it serious.

I know it's common to go slightly over the speed limit but this was too far for me. It's really annoyed me but I don't want it to ruin our day out.

Works in Germany

Yes but roads in Germany are much straighter and flatter, you can't compare

ZilphasHatpin · 09/04/2017 15:07

Empty straight motorway? Completely different.

Empty, straight, closed motorway in dry weather, low crosswind weather conditions and with no children in the car so you're only going to kill yourself.

ivykaty44 · 09/04/2017 15:07

Motorways have a 70mph speed limit and have the lowest number of accidents. So no, speed doesn't necessarily equal dangerous

Driving on a motor way at 70mph is very different from driving on an A road such as the fosseway, the road maybe straight but there are plenty of blind spots and enough curves to make driving over the speed limits set, dangerous.

Many accidents that kill, main and destroy families needlessly.

TittyGolightly · 09/04/2017 15:09

I'm not advocating driving above the speed limits on all occasions. But there are (lots of) times when it isn't dangerous or inappropriate.

TittyGolightly · 09/04/2017 15:11

Perhaps we should lower all limits to 20mph max and all live forever then. Hmm

ivykaty44 · 09/04/2017 15:12

of the 645 road deaths in Germany in 2006, 67% occurred on on motorway sections without limits and 33% on stretches with a permanent limit.

Just saying

TittyGolightly · 09/04/2017 15:13

645 out of how many millions/billions of journeys?

ZilphasHatpin · 09/04/2017 15:13

times when it isn't dangerous or inappropriate.

If the speed limit is 70mph then above 70 is inappropriate.

ivykaty44 · 09/04/2017 15:13

Titty

Have you sat next to the hospital bed of the victim of a speeding car? Perhaps if your family were hurt it won't bother you - but it did me

TittyGolightly · 09/04/2017 15:13

And how many were down to speed?

ToastDemon · 09/04/2017 15:14

Germany would have much better road death statistics if it wasn't for their unrestricted speed motorways.
It's a politically unpopular suggestion though, as a population they prefer to keep dying.

TittyGolightly · 09/04/2017 15:15

There's nothing scientific about 70mph. It was set when cars were less powerful/had fewer safety features and poorer brakes.

Now we just have more twats who don't know how to drive (see my earlier post).

ZilphasHatpin · 09/04/2017 15:16

It's inappropriate because it is illegal. That's what makes it inappropriate.

I've a relative that was paralysed by a cow.

Perhaps we should ban cows.

My neighbour was trampled by a horse when it threw her off.

Perhaps we should ban horses.

A friend was murderered by her father.

Perhaps we should ban dads.

Hmm

The faster the speed, the likelihood of it being fatal increases.

XiCi · 09/04/2017 15:17

Can't believe you were stupid enough to shout at him and proceed to have an argument when he was going that speed tbh. Did you think taking his attention away from the road was a good idea?

TittyGolightly · 09/04/2017 15:18

It's inappropriate because it is illegal. That's what makes it inappropriate.

So are the other things I listed. Can't catch them with a camera though so can't be dangerous.

TittyGolightly · 09/04/2017 15:18

So we should reduce limits to 20mph then. Everywhere. Can't wait for my next Brighton to Glasgow run. Should only take a week. Hmm

boolifooli · 09/04/2017 15:19

My ex was a dangerous driver. In hindsight he used his driving to address his perceived injustices in life, which were fairly average expectations. Is your DP like this?

ZilphasHatpin · 09/04/2017 15:20

I know it wasn't your intention titty but your choice of cows and horses are very good examples. Both large dangerous animals and horses in particular capable of reaching speed when you're on them. We don't ban horses and cows because of this, what we do is learn how to behave safely around them and when in control of them. The same with cars, we don't ban cars, we learn how to handle them safely. Part of that means having legal speed limits on the roads.

ZilphasHatpin · 09/04/2017 15:22

I think you have confused yourself about what point you are making with this comment. However, yes, those other things are innappropriate too. Again, who was advocating we do those things instead of speeding?

TittyGolightly · 09/04/2017 15:22

And lots of other rules that are flouted every minute of every day on every road. But you're not bothered about those, it seems.

NotYoda · 09/04/2017 15:22

Talk to him when he's not driving

I have no time for people who speed. There' s no justification

Especially with children in the car

Me? I'm bothered by lots of things. This thread was about speeding though, if it was about any of those other things we would be discussing those other things.
