To hate this smashcake craze?

A close member of our family has just spent £100 on a smashcake for her 1st baby's birthday.
I find it quite disgusting to waste food like this. It surprises me that I have quite a gutteral reaction to this. I also find it disgusting to see people in baths of beans etc.

Anyone else feel like this or am I just a killjoy?

OP asked if she was a killjoy.

I say yes.

Jakeyboy1 · 12/04/2017 23:36

No waste at our cake smash - ate the lot!

The only thing I don't like about cake smashes is the nakedness I don't like it when you see photos of near naked babies posted all over fb. So we didn't do naked. (The baby I mean.)

SoulAccount · 13/04/2017 14:24

I love the way Quinn says 'Carrie '.
It may be since he had his stroke.
He says 'Carrieeee' with an infinitesimal extra emphasis on the R' and 'e' sounds, a bit like a toddler. It is v endearing.

SoulAccount · 13/04/2017 14:25

Ahem; Quinn from Homeland has NOT been involved in a CIA cake smash plot, as far as I know.

Wrong thread Grin

originalbiglymavis · 13/04/2017 14:35

Is anyone else getting a pop up ad for Save the Children with a photo of a stick thin toddler grasping a pouch of that high protein food with some of it smeared on his poor wee face?

Jakeyboy1 · 13/04/2017 15:15

@SoulAccount anything that brings Quinn in is great! Where's that thread? Yeah the drone queen would love a cake smash!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 13/04/2017 15:17

Don't mention cake smash. Carrie is in trouble with children's services as it is.

Lweji · 13/04/2017 15:35

I bet he was framed for the cake smash.

SoulAccount · 13/04/2017 15:40

Chardonnay: Carrie has a Cake Smash photographer as an asset. Visiting the foster home and passing messages between Carrie and Franny.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 13/04/2017 15:42

That must be Saul.
All the cake crumbs hiding in that beard of his.

hyperspacebug · 13/04/2017 16:59

Hmm, mixed feelings...

Our childminder is an aspiring photographer, so I had cake smash (made the small cake myself) done in her studio. We had a lot fun and were really enjoing how dolled up my daughter was, but I admit the resulting photos reeked of artifice a bit, even when photo quality was good. Whole thing did feel a bit silly. At 1 my daugher nibbled cake carefully rather than smashed it, so most of it was preserved. The adults ate the rest of it.

I still prefer pics of kids in nature, it's stressful to bring entire family out and get kids to cooperate for professional photoshoot (even if the photographer is our friend). I'd rather have my own full-frame camera.

Why do what other people do bother some people so much?

It's a cake smash, not a chemical weapons attack

Lweji · 13/04/2017 19:12

It's a cake smash, not a chemical weapons attack

I depends on how many E numbers those cakes had.

Ollycat · 13/04/2017 19:16

Only read some of the thread. What's a smash cake????

Ollycat · 13/04/2017 19:16

Or even a cake smash? Never heard of it!!

HoneyBeeMum1 · 13/04/2017 19:34

It doesn't need to be a chemical weapons attack Lynney88. It is still crass.

limitedperiodonly · 13/04/2017 19:52

HoneyBeeMum1 You're quite obsessed with Lynney88, aren't you?

Your fixation with her seems to have blinded you to the fact that it was me who said that and not her. Poor Lynney88. Do you want to say sorry to her?

limitedperiodonly · 13/04/2017 20:01

How fascinating Lweji

It's like a game of Jeopardy in reverse where the question is: What would Sean Spicer say?

I said: It's a cake smash, not a chemical weapons attack

Sean (you) said: It depends on how many E numbers those cakes had.

Lweji · 13/04/2017 20:11

I think the Spicer answer you were looking for would be:

At least Hitler didn't smash any cakes.

HoneyBeeMum1 · 13/04/2017 20:34

Don't flatter yourself Lynney88.

Lweji · 13/04/2017 20:42

HoneyBeeMum1

Are you trying to say something? Wink

PoorYorick · 13/04/2017 20:52

Sean would say: 'I heard Hintler liked Black Forest Gateau' Lweji Wink

' HoneyBeeMum1 WTF are you trying to say and to whom are you trying to say it?

Ghanagirl · 13/04/2017 21:14

Adults also now doing this craze

THREAD OVER

That's what I thought regarding Spicer. If only a Presidency was over when one of them mentioned Hitler...

(Any clips of Hitler ranting over smashing cakes, btw?)
