To hate this smashcake craze?

skerrywind · 09/04/2017 10:35

A close member of our family has just spent £100 on a smashcake for her 1st baby's birthday.
I find it quite disgusting to waste food like this. It surprises me that I have quite a gutteral reaction to this. I also find it disgusting to see people in baths of beans etc.

Anyone else feel like this or am I just a killjoy?

Why did you tell us the cake was fed the cake to the dogs if it didn't matter?

It mattered when you were writing it but it doesn't matter now?

HoneyBeeMum1 · 11/04/2017 19:31

No Lynney, but you have endorsed the action by claiming it prevented wasting the cake.

This whole cake crash thing is crass and stupid for all sorts of reasons, which include, but are not limited to:

  1. It is not cute.
  2. It makes children with no choice look grubby and feral.
  3. It is messy.
  4. It is wasteful - even if you offset some of the waste by poisoning a few dogs.
  5. It is chavvy and common.
  6. It does not encourage good manners.

What, pray, is a Tottie?

lynney88 · 11/04/2017 19:31

I'm saying the whole thing doesn't matter now. The photo shoot was two and a half years ago it's done. You "civilised ladies" and your attitudes will never change.

Some crazy ladies on here on a cakesmash witch hunt.

You'd think I'd have dangled my baby from a cliff the way you're all going on.

lynney88 · 11/04/2017 19:34

That must be it - I'm a chavvy commoner whilst you sit on your gold encrusted throne your highness!

Your kids must never get dirty. It doesn't make children look feral at all 😂🙄

She was dirty for all of ten minutes, the waste was one £3 cake and how did it affect your life?

Please feed your child a chocolate cake you and your posse are judgemental enough for the rest of us.

Reactivedog · 11/04/2017 19:35

Shock chocolate is very poisonous to dogs

HoneyBeeMum1 · 11/04/2017 19:36

Lynney, you have called people names and referred to someone else's child as 'IT'.

Now, calm down and bring that poor child away from the edge of the cliff.

HoneyBeeMum1 · 11/04/2017 19:37

My children like chocolate cake. In their digestive systems, not all over their faces and clothes.

lynney88 · 11/04/2017 19:39

Yes I have due to my child being called it and being called names myself. If you speak to me in a nasty way then that must be the way you like getting spoken to.

Treat others as you wish to be treated.

HoneyBeeMum1 · 11/04/2017 19:41

Indeed Lynney. So you did know really.

Lweji · 11/04/2017 19:42

On the dogs, though...

elkegel · 11/04/2017 19:43

I agree, OP. I find it wasteful and the idea of smashing something someone has created really horrible. It takes a lot of effort to make and decorate a cake, even in a massive bakery. I also dislike piñatas, or at least, kids smashing them. Smash something up to get a reward. Ugh.

HoneyBeeMum1 · 11/04/2017 19:44

I don't particularly like dogs, but I would not poison one. Even to avoid wasting a cake.

Asmoto · 11/04/2017 19:45

I'd never heard of these cakes before this thread! Just looking at the Asda instructions Huldra posted - "make sure you clean the blade between slices"? I have never cleaned a knife blade between cutting slices of cake - is one supposed to? Blush Am I terribly uncouth? Grin

Reactivedog · 11/04/2017 19:45

Grin this is getting really serious now that dogs are getting hurt

Lweji · 11/04/2017 19:47

I asked her what she did with the cake

It sounds likely.

In any case, I hope you have educated her about feeding chocolate to dogs.

abcBears · 11/04/2017 19:48

I don't believe in being martyrs because there's misery somewhere else in the world, but you have to admit the whole concept is embarrassing to explain:

Cake We get a special cake for a child's birthday (too young to understand the concept of birthdays, but so far I am with you).
Cake we pay a photographer (memories and all that, why not)
Cake we encourage the kid to destroy the cake, make a mess and throw it everywhere... (why? because we can. we have so much food that we have to find new ways to handle it, and we think we are clever and witty, and it's hilarious to look at pics of our kids learning to waste food so young).
We are so inundated by food that wasting is hilarious, I tell you.

Can you imagine the DM front page if George and Charlotte had a smashcake session.

HoneyBeeMum1 · 11/04/2017 19:51

Indeed Reactive dog, but do not be too hasty with your report to the RSPCA.

I am sure no dogs or animals were hurt in the making of Lynney88's precious memories. I think it more likely it was a hasty response to the accusation of waste that got out of hand.

lynney88 · 11/04/2017 19:53

I don't know why anyone would compare their child or anyone else's to the Royals. 😂

We're all commoners to them. In fact we are ALL commoners!

Reactivedog · 11/04/2017 19:53

I will reign in my fears, MNHQ were just tracing the IP address as I typed. They love dogs too you see...

Lweji · 11/04/2017 19:59
Reactivedog · 11/04/2017 20:01

Well they do really love dogs, I hope so.

abcBears · 11/04/2017 20:04

I don't know why anyone would compare their child or anyone else's to the Royals.

not comparing, just pointing out that there would be a public uproar if their kids were actively encourage to behave that way.

The Hunger Game reference is spot on.

PoorYorick · 11/04/2017 20:14

The Hunger Games reference was paranoid, hysterical nonsense.

Though it gives me the idea for a parody. A televised battle between babies from different districts throwing Victoria sponges at each other. I'd probably watch that.

abcBears · 11/04/2017 20:22

I am not sure anyone is shaking their head at smashcake parties because they are scared of the concept Grin

After the Walking Dead, the Walking Chavs, beware!!!

limitedperiodonly · 11/04/2017 20:23

lynney88 You are a ghastly person. Wink
