To cause a massive scene in Sainsbury's car park

Earlier today I went to Sainsbury's with both my DD's (7&1) I was just about about to pull in to the last mother and baby space when someone cuts me up to park there, ok annoying as fuck but whatever.
I find another non baby space which is a very tight squeeze with my car (it's quite big) not to mention the whole faf off youngest DD and her car seat palava, so we've finally got out just about and set out to go in store, this is when I notice the guy who cuts me up is on his own, not only that I recognise he's the same guy who done this to me last week!
So I flipped out!
Blush I asked him where his kids were and does he think it's acceptable to be able bodied (I know this now I've recognised him as I actually went to school with him and he lives near me) and watch someone else struggle whilst he doesn't actually need the space.
So what I got back was him shouting to me 'you don't have to have kids to park here' and 'I'll park where the fuck I want'
By this time my oldest DD was very upset with our shouting and his swearing so I started to walk away, he proceeded to shout abuse behind me and it was all just very embarrassing really!
All in all I'm glad I called him out in front of lots of tutting and clapping people Blushbut I wish I hadn't upset my DD, I just hate disrespectful people! And I went in and reported him Grin

*Your 7 year old got upset your 1 year old was dragged from the opposite side of the car?

Why were you dragging a baby? confused

Is your 7 year old a bit extra? She seems to get upset at the slightest thing*

Really goady

PortiaCastis · 06/04/2017 09:58

To fuck with all this do online shopping
Problem solved.
Oh and use that gas guzzling bad for the environment and your kids mahoosive truck as little as possible

Naughty1205 · 06/04/2017 09:59

I would have done as you did OP. YANBU. What a dick

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 06/04/2017 10:00

And there's your problem right there

No not my problem. The OP 'flipped out' which is a completely disproportionate response.

I've been shouted at for being in a disabled bay even though I have a blue badge and was on crutches. I didn't 'flip out' I ignored them.

The OP started the fuss not the man.

WatchHowISoar · 06/04/2017 10:01

I wish people would keep the spaces free purely because despite parking in the middle of spaces on tworking occasions my car door has been dented by a child or scratched by a buggy.

I like p&c spaces they are a great perk but I can park and be considerate without them some arseholes can't. Twice it's been parents.

fessmess · 06/04/2017 10:02

Jesus. This site just depresses me sometimes. The way people are rounded on and then picked to pieces. He should not have parked in the space, it is very selfish and inconsiderate behaviour. If he had hurt his foot(not disabled) I think most of us would "let it go." But , know what? Sometimes we're stressed, tired, have had a crap day and this is the final straw. I'm sure we can all relate to that.

It sounds crap OP and you were allowed to be pissed off, can have the car you want and park in p & c spaces if it helps you shop.

BillyButtfuck · 06/04/2017 10:04

Endless that's a unnecessarily goady and rude

floraeasy · 06/04/2017 10:05

Okay, just one more contribution. You may be starring in one of these soon, OP. All it takes is someone with a camera phone!

Fighting in the 'hood. Classy women in carpark Grin

pennypickle · 06/04/2017 10:08

I'm surprised at the suggestions that people, who need extra room to park their cars, park at the far side of the car park. How ever would the special snowflakes manage if it was raining? And don't forget the mothers who have no idea how to control their offspring as they walk through the car park. They can't seem to grasp the idea of holding hands.....

JaxingJump · 06/04/2017 10:14

I have 3 special snowflakes and only 2 hands. They are good but very little so I do feel walking them through a huge car park is a bit dangerous. But we do what we have to. I have them terrified of cars now because even if one starts moving 30m away the all scream CAR and cling to me terrified. But it's the ones they don't see that are the problem.

Let's all just cut each other a little slack here. It's such a pleasure when we get a mum and child space. And it isn't the safest part of parenting getting small kids through a busy car park.

Mrsmorton · 06/04/2017 10:15

Do you go to Sainsbury's every day, OP? Maybe you could walk one day? Or try to cut down on driving there before going cold turkey.

Endlessmusings · 06/04/2017 10:19

Not really. I fail to understand how getting a baby out of the car could upset their sibling. I mainly think the OP is being dramatic about the situation and embellishing parts.

hellomoon · 06/04/2017 10:22

The OP started the fuss not the man.

Nope - the man started it by being discourteous.

hellomoon · 06/04/2017 10:25

The OP's energy would have been better spent getting up a petition asking the supermarket or local council to think about making legally-protected spaces to P&C to park in.

if you go by the responses on this thread, no one would sign it!

pennypickle · 06/04/2017 10:31

If they are very little you could put two in the twin trolley seats. Anyway make it a rule that whenever you are out in potentially dangerous situations that they all hold hands.

How come child minders don't have the struggles that parents have?

ChasingAPinkBall · 06/04/2017 10:35

OP I'd high five you if I had seen you confront the bloke. Inconsiderate twat.

LornaMumsnet · 06/04/2017 10:35

Ahem

Can we please have a bit of peace and love?

We don't want to have to remove this thread...

pirsonal · 06/04/2017 10:42

OP have you considered that he MAY have been going in to collect a passenger with a child. Nevertheless you are not a carpark police officer are you? You showed bad form.

I wish car parks spaces were made bigger for everyone's cars nowadays. It's like garages...cars are much bigger now and nothing fits.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 06/04/2017 10:45

Of course the man was rude to cut you up. No one is disputing that.

BUT I have to say this. Are you sure your 'standing up for yourself/flipping out' didnt cause your DD to be upset as much as the man shouting at you did OP?

The reason I'm asking this is because many moons ago. I also lost my shit in front of someone. I dearly wish I hadn't. The other person was definitely in the wrong. I was definitely in the right. (Basically we were in a queue and her kid twatted my kid who was just out of hospital a day by then - it was Christmas and took her out to cheer her up - and when I told her she did sod all about it and it turned into an epic row). Even though I was in the right to stand up for myself and my children, I have never argued like that in public since. Why? Because it upset my kids. Not just the other woman. I did too and I accept that. It's about learning to pick your battles wisely, regardless of being clearly right to do so.

I went to a farm with DCs yesterday, was first in the queue, a group of childminders were directly behind us and decided to barge past the minute the door was opened. I could have lost my shit at them, but what would that have achieved? We'd have been asked to leave and I'd have spoilt the Children's day. That woipdmt be teaching my children to stand up for what's right that'll just teach them their days get cut short / or spoilt when mummy can't keep her gob shut. Raised voices or not. The barn was open for an hour so we were still going to get to hold the animals, there wasn't a snaking cue and only five minutes left. As it turned out, the man in charge had noticed what had happened and let my DCs have a bit more time in the barn and hold another animal too. Something the other mindees didnt get to do.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 06/04/2017 10:46

*wouldn't be teaching

Cherrysoup · 06/04/2017 11:01

Re tickets: there's an Aldi not far from here. There is a pizza place, a massive shopping mall across the road and we got a ticket for not getting one from the machine (free, we just didn't know, we didn't look, we were in a rush, tough on us) There are lots of places round here like that.

JaxingJump · 06/04/2017 11:19

Oh Penny....of course I horse them all in a trolley if the trolleys aren't very far away. Which they often are. But it's also dangerous unloading 3 small children into a trolley when it has to sit out where the cars drive because there's no space down the side of the car. And really, they should just hold hands.... of course my well behaved 3, 2 and 1 yr old are trained to hold hands but a puddle or coin on the ground can end that in a heartbeat.

My childminder and I both discuss the problems of getting the kids safely in and out of the supermarket so it's not just us mums who struggle.

momma1701 · 06/04/2017 11:23

If my kids grow up accepting people will just barge past them and treat them like shit I haven't done my job properly! You don't get anywhere in life being a walk over and speaking out is definitely not the worst thing in life they could do!
My DD was getting bullied in school by one girl and she would never speak up she just isn't like that, the day she told her she's was in the wrong and to leave her alone, guess what it all stopped!
My kids will always be taught to be strong woman and if they want to shout at an arrogant arsehole in a car park then fair play to them they have balls

It's not about 'letting people barge past you', it's about being able to remain calm in a situation (whilst making sarcastic comments Grin ) , so as to not escalate it any further and the only end result being my kids are upset. But that's okay because I put some random twat in his place Confused

AwaywiththePixies27 · 06/04/2017 11:33

You can be a strong assertive woman without 'causing a massive scene' in front of your kids you know?

No one is saying that the man was in the right. He was rude but it sounds like six of one and half a dozen of the other in this case.
