to have just realised how amazing Emma Thompson is?

We watched Beauty and the Beast and I told my husband, "you know, out of everyone there, you'd really think Emma Thompson is Mrs Potts".

Then I realised every role she's ever been, she gets lost in it. She becomes the character.

That's rare.

I agree, she is a fabulous actress.

Fairyliz · 05/04/2017 20:22

Is that you Emma?

FishInAWetSuitAndFlippers · 05/04/2017 20:23

I love her. She really is an amazing actress.

GeekGoddess · 05/04/2017 20:25

She is fabulous. There are only a handful of actors who are always fabulous, but she is one of them.

TheAntiBoop · 05/04/2017 20:26

Professionally I agree. Which is why I avoid interviews etc with her because it ruins the spell!!

AteRiri · 05/04/2017 20:28

Fairyliz - I'm more Emma Watson than Emma Thompson :P

I also remembered one of the very few times I shed a tear while watching a movie - when she found out that Alan Rickman's character gave her a CD (instead of a necklace) in Love Actually.

She used to live near me - and a friend worked with her. Unsurprisingly she's really nice "in real life"

NeverTwerkNaked · 05/04/2017 20:31

Yabu to have only just realised Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 05/04/2017 20:31

She's one of my favourites. She's very convincing and draws you in to her characters.

ZilphasHatpin · 05/04/2017 20:33

I love Emma Thompson. Have you seen her on QI? She was very funny.

Oysterbabe · 05/04/2017 20:35

She is wonderful.

DesignedForLife · 05/04/2017 20:36

She's awesome. Loved her in sense & sensibility

Chippednailvarnishing · 05/04/2017 20:37

Great screenwriter too.

HermioneJeanGranger · 05/04/2017 20:38

I love Emma Thompson! She's wonderful.

JustSpeakSense · 05/04/2017 20:41

Every role she plays seems written just for her, she is incredibly talented.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 05/04/2017 20:42

Love her...absolutely love her.....but her accent in beauty and the beast was fucking atrocious! I was so looking forward to her in it but it was shit!

TooManyTrolls · 05/04/2017 20:45

Oh dear, I find her really annoying and too much of a fake leftie 'luvvy'

I've no personal gripe with her and I'm sure she is lovely etc but her voice drives me nuts. 😂 and I really can't respect anyone who want to marry luvvy supremo Ken Branagh. Bleugh. 🤢

BTW I've no beef with lefties

rubberducker · 05/04/2017 20:46

I agree with legopiece - generally love her but thought she was really annoying in beauty and the beast, what was that accent about??!

MessiIsTheBest · 05/04/2017 20:49

Her portrayal of Gareth Pierce in In The Name Of The Father was good

user1489261248 · 05/04/2017 20:49

She's bloody wonderful.

Loved her in Love Actually. Her portrayal of the cheated-on wife was amazing.

She made me laugh when she said she's a character actress because she's not pretty! PMSL! Silly girl! Grin She is very pretty!

Have to agree with a pp though; her accent in 'Beauty' wasn't great.

BitOutOfPractice · 05/04/2017 20:49

Nanny McPhee. That's a great kids film that I loved too. She's fab. She always seems like the kind of woman who'd be a great friend and a good laugh in the pub

JessiCake · 05/04/2017 21:07

Oh I was just coming on to praise her for Nanny McPhee! Fabulous films and she's great in them too.

Her accent was dire in B and the B though.

I sort of have to like her as a lot of people tell me I look a bit like her (I don't think I do) and I do think she's a good actress.

My friend used to live near her and she was v nice apparently. She lives/d over the road from her own mum. Friend also knows her sister who is nice too.

redshoeblueshoe · 05/04/2017 21:12

Toomanytrolls I'm with you. Don't like her. I saw her H being interviewed, he was promoting a TV drama he was in. He then proceeded to talk down to the interviewer and told them that they didn't have a TV as it was beneath them. Condescending twat.

londonrach · 05/04/2017 21:14

Totally agree.. love actually and peters friends and much to do about nothing and sense and sensibility... so many films...so talented!
