We watched Beauty and the Beast and I told my husband, "you know, out of everyone there, you'd really think Emma Thompson is Mrs Potts".

Then I realised every role she's ever been, she gets lost in it. She becomes the character.

That's rare.

I like her in many things, but she was AWFUL in batb. One of the worst things about it.

TheAntiBoop · 05/04/2017 21:14

'Do as I say not as I do' types.

chicaguapa · 05/04/2017 21:18

I remember seeing her on Graham Norton when he asked her how long it took for her to be made up as Nanny McPhee. She said "as long as it took to make her look like this" referring to her looking all glam. Grin

I think that she is fab. She can do heartbroken very well.

I also really liked Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast - I was surprised at how good I thought she was.

tazzy73 · 05/04/2017 21:20

Did anyone of you see the movie "WIT". She plays a character who has non-curable cancer. Movie is based on the care she receives. Very emotional. Small cast.

BiscuitMillionaire · 05/04/2017 21:22

Agree. Also, Last Chance Harvey [sob]

SuffolkBumkin · 05/04/2017 21:24

tazzy i was going to mention that film too! Never cried so much at a film. She was so proud
and so vulnerable.

VictoriaMcdade

Unpopular opinion, but I was really convinced she was Mrs Potts!

I thought she was great as Mrs posts
Love her in love actually too

TartYvette · 05/04/2017 21:29

Recently saw her in some awful movie with Pearse Brosnan and she looks amazing, I was really pleased to see an older woman look far better than the older men (for once).

I love that she's around and love what she does but having read the diaries she wrote during the filming of S&S I would reserve the right to think of her as rather hard work at times.

DonaldStott · 05/04/2017 22:22

I am an emma thompson fan, but her mrs potts accent gave dick van dyke's 'Bert' a run for his money.

TulipsInAJug · 05/04/2017 22:26

I thought you were going to day you'd just watched The Remains of the Day. The only thing better than her in it is Anthony Hopkins.

BlondeBecky1983 · 05/04/2017 22:33

That scene in the bedroom in Love Actually is absolute perfection. An acting masterclass.

However, there's only one Mrs Potts for me and that's Angela Lansbury! Grin

BlondeBecky1983 · 05/04/2017 22:34

Love The Remains of the Day also.

VeryButchyRestingFace · 05/04/2017 22:36

The Roman Polanski thing broke my ❤️. Even though she did kinda backtrack later, it showed that even Goddess Divine ET is human.

ZebraOwl · 05/04/2017 22:46

As NeverTwerkNaked said, YABU to have only just realised. She came back to Newnham to give a Pudding Seminar while I was there & the [universally unpopular] Senior Tutor practically had a stroke when she started talking about holding water fights (with Hugh Laurie...) on the roof of one of the buildings. She also cleared up the truth behind the story of her riding a motorbike through another of them...

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 05/04/2017 22:50

She's lovely but I do think she overdid the cockerney accent in BATB - especially in the big song.

5foot5 · 05/04/2017 23:15

Recently saw her in some awful movie with Pearse Bosnian
Do you mean "Love Punch", also with Celia Imrie and Timothy Spall? If so it's not an awful movie!! OK it's not exactly Oscar material but it made me lol many times. I love that film and she is so good in it.

I didn't manage to go the distance on that one either.

And I watched Junior from start to finish for ❤️ of Emma.

Poppet1974 · 05/04/2017 23:39

I adore her... you just know she'd be a great friend, esp great in a crisis....

mylittlephoney · 06/04/2017 00:53

I think she's amazing. Wrote the screenplay to sence and Sencability. Amazing actress. And her dad is Eric Thompson who narrated the magic roundabout (sooo many stoned nights listening to my MR tape) I cry when she does in L.A. and can honestly say she is the nicest celeb I have ever met. Won't have a bad word said about her......

mylittlephoney · 06/04/2017 00:53

Bloody spell check.

TabascoToastie · 06/04/2017 01:43

Her dad wrote the Magic Roundabout too.
