To not want dd to call her baby Dave?

I'm quite happy for it to stay simply as "baby" but her brother keeps telling her to call it Dave. Or Farty-pants. But Dave seems to be sticking. It doesn't even look like a Dave. I spent ages online picking one that wasn't terrible looking and now it's going to be known as Dave!

My teddy was called Moonface. Then when I was three, my dad brought home another teddy that had been in lost property at his work for ages. I called him New Ted. He's still called New Ted 47 years later.

DD called all her dolls and teddies by her own name... apart from one who was named Ricky (we don't know anyone called Ricky).

Shockers · 06/04/2017 20:45

We also had four rats named Rupert, Steve, Norm and Pete.

MardAsSnails · 06/04/2017 20:49

Completely outing self to DSis who read this... My dolly was called WhiffyBoff. Or elisabeth to people who could enunciate properly

FeralBeryl · 06/04/2017 20:50

Littlest DD has a baba (baby Annabel) called Doreen.
She knows not one person named Doreen.

DB as a 3 year old had two dinosaurs called Jonathan and The Amazing Fellabud.

She clearly takes after her uncle...

Aww that's creepy and sweet.

I know a few stories of children talking to someone, full conversation, parents or carers would ask who you talking to. The child would say oh it's Maureen, she says your kitchen is a mess. Or something along them lines.

When I was really young, I shared a room with my brother, there was this old man who would shake my bed, then I'd wake and we'd talk. I remember screaming for my Dad, the old man was shaking my bed again. Dad said ignore it, I'd be like I can't he's stood right next to you and wants to talk. One night was really bad, my brother was just talking, Mum was pg with DSis, I think I said why don't you wake my brother up, the cot started to move right up to my bed. Dad heard the noise, he wasn't as impressed as us. Oh he was Frank. Another night something really odd happened, but I don't want to give anyone nightmares.

We were rehoused pretty quick after that Grin I think drunkenly as no one in sound mind would do it, they did a seance or ouiji board. Frank wasn't too impressed, bringing some friends to the party who weren't as nice. But saying that we were never touched, we'd get disturbed, but Frank was quite protective. It wasn't Frank, no idea who it was, but it was like someone holding one end of the cot and banging it up and down. That's one thing I remember. Needless to say when that started happening I'd sleep with my Dad. Mum would sleep in my bed.

Awww I love this.

My dolls were Summer and Autumn, and DDs were kind enough to keep their names.

My nice has a doll named Cups.

mediocremumatherbest · 06/04/2017 21:01

Every doll in this house gets called Milly or Billy... if quite like a Dave.

LordScuttlebutt · 06/04/2017 21:05

Bartlett the orange teddy-bear.

MrsPoldark · 06/04/2017 21:09

Just remembered DD1 had a cat called Tesco. She knew he was called Tesco because his name was on his label. (She was barely 3 and clearly this recognition of environmental print was a sign of future genius so I may have got her to tell everyone why Tesco was called Tesco)

mamaduckbone · 06/04/2017 21:10

Ds2 has a toy meerkat called Dave. No idea why.

BishopBrennansArse · 06/04/2017 21:13

Could be worse.
Be creative. Mix it up a bit.
Bit of Daffyd
Davido
Daveeeeeeeeeed
Etc

MrsKoala · 06/04/2017 21:21

DS1 (4) has made a cardboard cut out of himself which is called Felix Monks.

mspeef · 06/04/2017 21:55

My daughter was given a monstrosity. My husband called it Frankenbaby, and dd calls it Frank.

bellamcpoopants · 06/04/2017 22:21

My dolls were Sarah (she had a mullet) and Isobel (she was beautiful and very well educated Hmm).

My cat was Frank.

Ds2 called every teddy or doll Jackson, after his bf at the time. He fondly remember one particular Jackson bear but not the friend

Both ds invented a game that they called silly buggers, and then a follow-up version silly buggers 2.0

We call my growing bump Geoff, hope it doesn't stick!

lozzylizzy · 06/04/2017 22:35

My girls doll was meant to be called rufus (her brothers suggestion) but she cant say it properly so its stuck as rupus.

lozzylizzy · 06/04/2017 22:37

Also my sister had a tiny doll with green and orange mohican with a heart on its cheek which she called andrew-thomas

Mehfruittea · 06/04/2017 22:50

DS wanted a doll for xmas, he called it Davina...

MiladyThesaurus · 06/04/2017 22:54

DS2 names everything Bob. He had to be persuaded that Bob is actually an ordinary name and not a hilarious made up one. But still he loved the name Bob.

TooSleepyToCare · 07/04/2017 00:45

Aww, I had Elizabeth, Nigel, Louise and Chocolate. I can't remember giving anything else names. I'm sure I will have tho.
Dave is a good, solid name. He'll be handy to have around (thinking plumber or something) when he grows up Grin

Indya · 07/04/2017 08:25

My DD called her doll French Biscuits! Because she smelled like them apparently!

NotSoEagerBeaver · 07/04/2017 12:56

I had a toy lion called Barry.

DS has a lamb called Minty. He's too young to understand why Grin

ThePopcornPolice · 07/04/2017 13:37

My DD has a my little pony called Nathan! Grin

silkpyjamasallday · 07/04/2017 13:51

My favourite childhood toy's name is apparently a racial slur for Iranians, DP helpfully pointed this out when they were introduced GrinI feel so guilty now but I have never heard it used and neither had my parents so we were all blissfully unaware! At least shouting about baby Dave in the park won't get you arrested for a hate crime!

Redpony1 · 07/04/2017 14:18

We have a foal called Dave at the stables Grin

FairytalesAreBullshit · 07/04/2017 15:59

Aww I love hearing these names.

I'm really sad I don't still have my teddy, from when I was little. He had 18+ years of tears soaked into him.

I was quite surprised, I'll get shot for this, but as a joke stocking filler got DS a cuddly panda bear type thing. He sleeps with cuddly toys at 13.
