To not want dd to call her baby Dave?

I'm quite happy for it to stay simply as "baby" but her brother keeps telling her to call it Dave. Or Farty-pants. But Dave seems to be sticking. It doesn't even look like a Dave. I spent ages online picking one that wasn't terrible looking and now it's going to be known as Dave!

My niece's baby was called Uppa Bubba. She was 2. When asked why she said Twinkle twinkle little star Uppa Bubba world so high. Simples!

MrsPoldark · 06/04/2017 19:13

My dd1 had an Andrew puppy called Pony, used to regularly ask "you do know it's a dog don't you?". DD2 has a teddy called Colin and a fluffy dog called Dave. I've stopped trying to reason & im looking forward to meeting future grandchildren, who'all probably be called Trevor & Norman

car5ys · 06/04/2017 19:25

There's a FB cat called Dave who has a daily page and is very amusing. My dd was refered to as Brian when a bump as ds (6 at the time) wanted us to call the baby Brian. She is 20 now and some family still call her Brian. She has a hamster called Tony. I also worked with a Dave who was a complete twat!!

A few years ago, there was a gathering of Davids and Daves and the other versions? It was in Aberdeen I think. I found out afterwards. Do was a bit disappointed to have missed it.

For a couple of years in primary school, so in rhe late 60s, there were 7 boys called David in my class. Out of maybe 40 pupils.

AuldHeathen · 06/04/2017 19:40

I don't know why there's a ? above. Excitement possibly as the David son has just walked in. I'v not seen him for weeks. Smile

My son had three teddies called Boo and Fiddidee and Beeon. From Toy Story. He also had a fir tree in a pot called Cheetah Fir Dolphin. He once persuaded me to buy him a green snake in Ikea that I'd already said no to. He took it very well, but at the checkout, he suddenly wailed, "He's called Sammy, I know he is!"
It's quite difficult to go through Ikea backwards.

My daughter had a yellow plastic horse called Princess Custard. It was a great accolade, because custard was her favourite thing. She came home one day during her first week at secondary school and said, "In maths, I sit next to Polly, Holly and Molly." Her name is Charis; at one time we also knew girls called Kerys, Carys, Clarice, Shanice, Carina, Cara and Clara. One of her friends called her Chairs.

Our dog is called Thomas The Tank Dog (Tank for short) and we used to have a cat called Toby The Tram Cat (Toby, thankfully, not Tram).

I helped DD name her IKEA doll "Creepy Dave" because it was creepy looking and Dave is a great name for anything. But now she won't name anything Dave or let me name anything Dave sigh I miss the days of Dave.

Deidre21 · 06/04/2017 19:54

Why do you care - it's a doll and it's her choice, children should be allowed to have choices within reason and this is toy, so yes, I think it's unreasonable.

tinpanali00 · 06/04/2017 19:56

Just remembered... we also had a cat called Harry. When my dd (Charis) was a baby her brother's best friend could never remember which was which, so she settled for calling them both Harris.

TheLongRider · 06/04/2017 19:57

We have Girlie Girl and Boysie Boy here, both IKEA dolls. DD is 7 and had to name her first cat last year, mercifully she gave it a name that she'll still be calling her in 10 years time.

bookworm14 · 06/04/2017 19:57

Dave is a great name for a doll!

19mo DD's two baby dolls are called "baby" and "baby" Grin

tinpanali00 · 06/04/2017 20:00

DD wanted to call her gerbils Furbil and, um, Gerbil. I persuaded her to go for Werbil instead.

SignOnTheWindow · 06/04/2017 20:01

I liked my favourite toys' names so much I named my DC after them Blush

SignOnTheWindow · 06/04/2017 20:02

Hope DD1 doesn't do the same - she named her doll 'Cupcake' Hmm

Buglife · 06/04/2017 20:03

All the joyless folk replying 'urge it's a doll get over it, get a grip, it's her doll' etc are making me howl. So many people can't get a joke!

DS has no dolls, but he has just started naming things which I love. He holds something up and says "what's his name?" (Everything is he at the moment) and I say "I don't know, what do you think?" And he says '"uuuummmm, he's dah dah" or something similar :) two names that have stuck are a toy dog called Dak and a train called Babadan!

tinpanali00 · 06/04/2017 20:10

I love those, Buglife. My dd had two invisible friends called Dilladod and Calladud.

HeyMicky · 06/04/2017 20:10

We called ALL of DD1's toys Dave. Mostly because it was hilarious to hear a small blonde child solemnly telling grandma one after the other that they were called Dave. But also because Dave is a great name for a toy.

Spotty Dave and Dolly Dave still exist; the others have been renamed as she got older

Antna · 06/04/2017 20:10

Dave is a great name! My son called his dolly Davo. Maybe he's Australian.

tinpanali00 · 06/04/2017 20:12

And for some reason, all four legged animals that lived in fields were called moanies.

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 06/04/2017 20:25

My son had a bear he called David Beckham bear and a squirrel called Michael.

FairytalesAreBullshit · 06/04/2017 20:29

It's really annoying me now, I think I had it earlier but it's gone again now. It was a name that sounded a farmers name. Ah Jock I think it was, when ever we played games as kids my brother would want to be called Jock.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 06/04/2017 20:33

We recently went to stay with my sister. DD decided that something - I think a cat?- lived in DSis apartment. Dd would wander round murmuring "Tibbles, Tibbles, meaow" in a worried voice. If you asked her where Tibbles was she would point at the stripy rug.

When we got home one of the first things she said was - with an air of relief - "ah, no Tibbles".

Confused
AlasEarwax · 06/04/2017 20:37

Not quite the same, but this thread reminds me of when my little brother was about 3 and he had an invisible friend called Grank. A few years later Grank acquired a little brother called Eggy Grin These fellas were regular guests in our home on and off for years and years... Then all of a sudden when my brother was around 10, Grank and Eggy moved away to work on a farm. That was what my brother said anyway. I think it was his way of deciding that as he was older, he didn't really need Grank and Eggy any more so he was slowly letting them go. I told my brother that I saw Grank and Eggy working in the field that I could see from my upstairs English classroom at school. He seemed happy about that... And we never heard about them again! Quite sad about that actually! Now he's all grown up with no imagination Sad

Woody67 · 06/04/2017 20:37

My friend and I liked a boy at school so we called our dolls Cheryl and Lorraine after his sisters!

Woody67 · 06/04/2017 20:40

My mum's dog was called Jason.
